Doesn't appear to be credible after some searching.

These vehicles are quite expensive, It would be billions of dollars based on MRAP prices.

I'm sorry, but this is where I draw a BIG FAT LINE for "playing devil's advocate". Not every topic HAS two sides or needs everyone to try so hard finding one.

These are the purchase of Military Combat vehicles for use by civilian authority against or among civilian population in our own nation and cities.

I don't see upsides, legitimate justifications or anything else to excuse this. Period. End of Story...FUUUUULL STOP.

I noted one exception and SAR/Swift Water Rescue which does make sense. In limited areas and for very specific roles we DO use military platforms. Look at some air on forest firefighting, for instance.

However...... That's very specific. That's not 2,700 MRAP's out to the streets of America on top of the 30,000 Drones this SAME DHS was just pushing down the throats of America by grant, gift and any other means they could find to encourage and distribute them.

We're becoming a police state and entirely too many are looking for ways to make it sound Okay while it's happening. No.. MRAP combat trucks are NOT Okay on my city street. Not now...and not ever. Espeically NOT with the Department Of Homeland Security door decal the one in the picture has. Since when was DHS a national police force, anyway??

So please show us your undisputable evidence that these are being purchased for use against American civilians.

Not just your opinion.

I'll give you a minute.

I simply cannot see how that would play out.

So you are accusing me of saying that these are for use against American civilians? Did I say that?
I am just wondering what possible use they have for these.

Not accusing you of anything.

We don't know why they are purchasing them but obviously there is a reason. When trying to determine that reason we should look at all possibilities.

Wow. In the world that I live in, it sure seems like you did.
You said this....

You have zero proof also. Just saying.

I said this...

Proof of what? Just asking.

Then you said this...

That these vehicles or the hollow-point rounds are being purchased for use against American civilians.

See how that played out?

You asked me for proof of something.
Now you are saying that you didn't accuse me of saying anything?

Why would you ask me to prove something if you didn't think that I said it?

There's proof that they didn't buy them....
The federal government has NEVER spent BILLIONS of dollars on something stupid.

The military just has an upgrade order for 2,717 of these. No credible evidence that DHS has an order. Any evidence would be good, not blogs and the usual suspect sites.

Probably all government money is spent unwisely. NASA is a complete waste of money, and so is WAR.

what was the point of America helping with the N.Ireland agreement to get things like that of are streets just to put them on your's, that so wouldn't look to good would it after all I can now go into Belfast and not see a soldier etc in sight or get blown up!! So I don't think they would be for your streets at all, thank God.
So maybe these things are for over the water

We're in a drawdown. Why buy?

Who we going to war with next?

I would read the Prince by Machaivelli, he puts forth the notion that even in times of peace, a "prince" should be preparing for the next war.

Because it will come.

I only need proof of one to know that they have one.

I posit that they DON'T NEED ONE.

The proof is in the video in the OP of this ATS Thread.
Go to the other thread, watch the video (the DHS employee is giving a lecture on their vehicle) then come back and tell me that they do not have one.

You will notice in the video that the DHS logo is painted proudly on the side of the MRAP, in BIG letters.

That's all well and good, but we're dealing with military logistics.

It doesn't work like that.

Spending has to be justified, and appropriated accordingly.

You are aware that we already have enough equipment to fight two wars simultaneously correct? When is it enough of a stockpile? Given the current situation with funding I would think conservation of funds would be a sure bet.

I can't say but it's a four letter name.

These types of contracts are not uncommon for vehicles, retrofits, and upgrades. Navistar, Oshkosh Truck, and others. Sure they could be transferred to DHS, and I wouldn't be surprised by anything anymore. Drones recently flew above my sister's house - 2 of them. Creepy.

EDIT: Yeah, the video is screwed up. So, how many do they have?

My personal belief is that war is coming, just a question of regions affected and players involved.

When has our government ever justified their spending.

That's funny

Never.

The military?

Constantly.

That's hilarious. You know how much it costs to install a coffee cup holder in the cockpit of a C-17?

300 bucks for a piece of cheap plastic and two rivets.....keep telling yourself they don't wast money.

Constantly.

As I stated earlier, these are probably being purchased for use in future overseas deployments, the DHS probably bought them because they had room in their budget.

If you can disprove that I'd be happy to entertain your conspiracies. Usually though, with rational thought, there is more than likely a reasonable explantion.

I don't know that it is anyone's job to prove or disprove ANYTHING to you but it seems pretty clear to me.

The Department of Homeland Security (through the U.S. Army Forces Command) recently retrofitted 2,717 of these ‘Mine Resistant Protected’ vehicles for service on the streets of the United States.

I can't make you see what you refuse to see though.
So........carry on.
How does that sand taste?

I'm not saying they (military) doesn't waste money.

Only that they have to ask and justify it.

Has anyone else noticed the paint is desert camo?

In your link is the defense procurement link to:

Bunch of stuff on NAVSTAR

This article in that link refers to upgrades to already fielded vehicles (overseas).

2717 vehicle upgrades

This one talks about more upgrades for vehicles for Afghanistan:
Navstar

This company manf. thousands of vehicles. I didn't see any story about homeland security in their press releases.

The OP photo is of an off road, rough terrain, mine resistant vehicle for convoys in overseas mountain terrain or desert environments, not American cities. It doesn't explain the logos on the side. Too convenient for my taste.

Its not clear.

Tell me the scenario you envision where the government would go to war against its populace. Today in America.

Tell me how it would happen. This is the point many people fail to recognize.
