Can we use our signature space for paid advertising?

Just think of the personal revenue it'd generate!

Why and/or why not?

Let's say I made a deal with Carl's Eel Face Soup company. They pay me cash, I wear their logo in my sig. space.

Although it looks like you have gone ahead and advertised it anyway.

Now I'm not good at math but I've posted @15,000 posts. 2/3rds of them were trashed by mods because I wrote something silly.

That leaves. . . um. . . 73 posts still up.

That's 73 posts that could be used by advertising.

I know the real answer is a definitive, resounding "NO".

And I'm cool with that.

Just wondering why less scrupulous sites haven't done it.

You should just give your sig space to the site's 3rd party advertising.

However, I don't think paid adverts for things in our sigs would be a good idea, there's not enough space anyhow, cramming an ad in there would just take away prime quotong space........ (Space.com the place to be)

Actually, the advertising metrics would need to be based off your surfing habits. While the server traffic would be sublime for ATS, there'd really be no owner control over WHAT was being advertised. Remember, we are family friendly here.

Multiply uncontrolled ads floating around by the average of 400 members logged online at any given time, and the lack of ability of the staff to edit your sig space, well, it becomes a logistical nightmare.

I'm sure ownership has other reasons, as well.
