MSM discussion thread

I guess I am starting this thread mainly to understand why so many here on ATS hate MSM?

Why is it that no one seem to trust them? If I have to believe what I read here it seems that either whatever they write is total bullocks, fabricated, or they have their own agenda etc etc.

But why do we link, quote, copy and paste so much of MSM if we dislike them? and who says that small independent websites, which in my opinion could just as much have their own agenda as well, fabricate stories etc etc, even more so perhaps. Or is it perhaps that because MSM doesn't write the stories that we want to hear here on ATS, we just immediately disregard everything as bullocks because we like to believe more in a conspiracy? This is of course Conspiracy website, fair enough....but one should believe that nothing from MSM can't be trusted, which I personally don't believe. So that means thousands of Journalists, who studied for years, all bring fabricated news or they are in some kind of conspiracy or have an agenda, at least this is the feeling I get.

I certainly do not believe everything I read straightaway, but I do not accept for myself it's only crap they write.

So if we can't trust MSM as well as small independent news sites or whatever news sources...who can we trust according to you and why? Sometimes I feel here on ATS, just almost everything is a conspiracy, meaning that I cannot trust anything and this I do not want to believe an accept.

I am really interested in your views...

Many do hate MSM.. but what they have to realize is that the Non-MSM sites have been diluted in the last decade and are (imo) not to be trusted. 90% of them have some $$$ agenda. More will have you believe in not one or two conspiracies, but ALL of them. It's getting silly. I'll stick to Reuters and BBC for now.

I believe entertainment is a section of what MSM brings, a long with news sections like business, politics, health, science, environment, technology etc etc. So according to you it's all entertainment?

Yes.

Consolidation, expense reduction and cultural change have produced a news media that has little breadth, depth or relevance.

At best, it's become dribble and mindless entertainment. At worst, it's an industry that consciously destroyed its mission to inform.

MSM is no longer the news it is drama spin lies and one sided fluff, no longer facts, nor does it have 2 sides to the story, MSM = mindless spin muck.

But there was a time when we seemed to try for a better standard. Maybe that was not true either.

Funny how it goes both ways. Majority of non-msn sites are clearly designed for children, ChemTrails, Illuminate,and how the Rothschilds ruined everyones lives.. Oh and how the government is telepathically making people go on shooting sprees. Don't forget to donate! lmao!

It's all a mess....

Now it takes 10 times as much effort to even produce an ounce of what is happening in the world-- even then, we're likely very far from the mark.

Meh, discussions like this are very similar to complaining water is wet, imo.

The funny thing is, people around here these days are often hypocrites. They scream and yell about the MSM out of one side of their mouths, and use MSM reports as 'evidence' of their conspiracies out of another. Its fascinating, really.

The MSM is full of propaganda these days, thats for sure, but if you know sits there, you can filter it out and get some very good information. At least thats my take.

Yes there was, that time has passed. Now many people only want to hear the side of the news that slant's to their views. A couple good examples the left MSNBC, the right FOX, if they hear or see news that doesn't lean their way. They call in bogus, biased, or propaganda. I myself watch and read from all sides, then try to sort through the whole mess for my own view.

If you only get your news from one side you aren't getting news you are getting programmed.

lets play a MSM game RT says ," by creditable source DPRK informed China on test," Now China denies this who is telling the truth? RT, DPRK or China. you can only pick one.

It sems to me that they go out of their way to present the non main stream point of view.
Example abortion. Most of the country support it but they report it like it a crime.

I guess you mean they don't report the conspiracy side of stories. Well they would if there were any facts to back up the story.

It's not so much the thousands of journalists, even though a majority have a liberal way of thinking, but it's the editors who give them their assignments or approve of what they submit, that have become biased. I agree with you though, it's hard to know fact from fiction nowadays. I personally trust the alternative news sources more than the big 3 networks, the major newspapers and most everything in-between.

I have made this same point in the past. It seems it is "in" to claim to hate the MSM but stay glued to it so you can post some new story in the "alternative news" forum and get as many stars and flags as possible.

Here is a great example of the corrupt MSNBC. They edited a video of John McCain responding to a grieving mother who lost a child at Aurora in order to smear him and make it out like he was sneering at the woman. Unbelievable. MSNBC did this and it's the second time. You'll remember how they edited the video of the father of a Newtown victim speaking at a gun control hearing and the crowd rumbles at him after he says no one can answer him about why someone needs an asault rifle.

This latest attack on John McCain is just another example of how you definitely can't trust NBC! Make sure to watch both videos here

I can see that there is quite some entertainment nowadays however that does not say the media doesn't have little breadth, depth or relevance. There are many quality papers, news sites that are very much relevant, journalists that risk their lives every day to bring real news.

I am still not convinced nor do I understand why there is so much hatred and disbelief for the media. I honestly get the feeling that it is about the fact, they don't write about conspiracies so much as we want here and because of that we we just disregard everything they write or say
