Ooooh, there may be lost human civilisation and/or alien artifacts there... LOL. This is not big in a mysterious way, in any way. Human like creatures have only been around for a few million years in the fossil record so please don't go all ATLANTEAN on us - not saying you are, JUST DON'T! - This happened 100s to 10s of millions of years ago (over millions of years)... Interesting but it's being mildly hyped in all the comic's science sections headlines. - coz its BORING NEWS!

Thought Atlantis was in the Atlantic - a series of islands extending from Gibraltar to Bimi with possibly Hy- Brasil Island being the northern most island of the Atlantis chain.

You DO realize a large part of the enitre PURPOSE of Above Top Secret as a web site is to exploire that "boring news" and "go Atlantean", as you note?

It seems a trend here lately to see people viciously attacking the very core purposes ATS exists ..or always has, anyway. Despite the near over-run and conversion to a pure political machine, it really wasn't intended that way that I can see or determine by reading all the old messages and archives. (Yeah..some really do spend time reading all that..lol.. it's interesting stuff!)

Slayer is also one of the house experts, if such a thing can be termed, on Ancient Civilizations and all the rest of the 'boring news' from that area. You might say, he found a real special niche with it and most of us really look forward to his next threads on the subjects.

So.... Honestly... Don't get all oppressive on us now. "- not saying you are, JUST DON'T! -", as you said yourself up there.

Interesting news. Once again, this one seems to tie into the Lemuria and ancient continent of Tamil (India). S&F

I'm of the opinion that Atlantis was located at Santorini, right on top of the Volcanic island. The archeological dig at Santorini shows a civilization 1000 years ahead of any of it's neighbours in the region.

My understanding through research is that Atlantis was between Europe and the America's and there is much evidence of this below Bimini.

Lemuria was said to be in the Pacific, whereas this find would more likely be the lost civilisation of 'Mu'!

Very interesting and I look forward to further info!

Good find Slayer

I've read Lemuria or Mu.

I seriously doubt this lends itself to either. But what is interesting to note is that the general area in question has been described in ancient text as being dry land once upon a time....

There are a couple of translational issues that when sorted out, put Atlantis in the Med right about where Santorini is. The evidence is much stronger than bimini.

Beforewemadeitup? Shame on you! Couldn't you have found a more reliable source?

Anyway, as I understand it, they have found traces of chemicals in one rock which originally formed in much earlier rocks in Rodinia around a thousand million year ago.

Geologically quite interesting

Edit: where on earth do people get Atlantis from?
It's as relevant to this discovery as the average size of a bikini in Rio is to the number of grains of quartz in an igneous intrusion in Scotland

So Slayer, they are talking about this area here?

I get that from the article talking about sampling the sands at Mauritius.

An earlier poster said "Just look at Google Earth" and I have to admit, to my untrained eye, it does seem obvious. Those areas look like submerged contenental shelves.......

No, that's not what this is about.

This is Rodinia

All they have found is chemicals which were formed in rocks that formed when Rodinia existed 1,000,000,000 yeas ago - the current topography has nothing to do with anything.

Doesn't really sound like much of a continent. I wonder what kind of strange creatures it could have boasted at some point in the past.

...but I wanna to post this thread...

We'll only need go back 20 000 years or so when the sea levels were 500 ft lower than today. We humans settles were there is water, so who knows how many civilisations have come and been washed away, it's the same with landmasses too.

I don't believe in Pangea nor plate tectonic theory. I won't go into all the reasons why...took me years of research to conclude this. And, I believe Atlantis is the Americas. However, I believe something else is afoot here.

Precious/rare minerals and metals are becoming scarce. The race is on to get what we can. China is taking so much of it.

Why are these researchers doing this, searching an obviously previously known geographical feature?

Money! Zircon, ilmenite, garnet, etc. They will probably excavate for research purposes and offer to haul the tailings off for free!
