HR 748: Require All Young Americans to Enlist in a National Service Program?

I did a search and didn't find this yet so id figure Id share... well apparently they are creating a draft like law that requires all young people age 18-25 to enlist in a national service such as a uniformed service for the united sates...


this just sound like Hitler has come back from the dead.. im a free man and should have a choice to join the military and not to be forced to do so...

I think EVERYONE right out of High Scholl Should Be required to do at least 2 years of military service. Also, eliminate the selective service program and save the money for OUR military budget.

Rangel submits this bill every year.

No one should be forced to serve any time in the military. Life is too short for this sort of nonsense. I’m glad Australia has no such thing. My other country, Austria does though. It isn’t just military service. In Austria you have the choice to serve in the military for x amount of time - for arguments sake we’ll say nine months. However, if you have objects toward war and all of sort of thing, you can enlist in another service/charity but you serve a longer time, say fifteen months instead of nine. I think in this day and age it’s an outdated concept.

I hope that all the young people and near to 18 teenagers see this and realize just what it is - and take a stand against it.

Obama campaigned on this, Youth Service, in his first campaign, so why the surprise?

Anything he didn't accomplish his first term, he will attempt this one. Isn't that what hakf the country re-elected him for?

ETA: Didn't he also plug this as a "pathway to citizenship" for undocumented workers?

I wonder if 12 years of constant war is starting to shrink the ranks of our all volunteer military and forced service is the only way to keep the war machine rolling? They even want to start drafting women and sending them into the meat grinder to die for god and country.

Where would the US get the money to fund this idiocy? Oh yeah, raise taxes.

Government wants to raise the minimum wage, thus creating more unemployment for those within that age group.
Government wants to put pressure on small businesses (Obamacare, taxes) so hiring is lower, and subsequently more within that age group go unemployed.

So government creates the problem.

Then offers a solution.

Then uses that "solution" to justify raising taxes.

No, ... Actually, I think they re-elected him because there was no other real choice.
From my point of view, I think that there should bew a requitement right out of high school because,... Our youth today has a serious case of Dumb A$$.. .. They don't want to work, they don't want to be educated, they spend every waking hour trying to figure the easiest route out. Let them do some military service and Build some CHARACTER. IMHO , .. . it would do OUR country good,. .. it would do OUR Future good,. ... it would make parents Proud that our child are doing their duty to god and country as we did 40+ , and then some, Years Ago. ..

I do Not agree with sending women onto the front lines. There are more than enough positions behind the lines. UNLESS of course the female wants to be part of it. It should be by their choice.

It is an outdated and nazi agenda to force children into unofirms designed to be worn by killers and murderers.

It's a sign that oppression is right around the corner. Tyranny under the bed.

In my honest opinion, we need more thugs and granny bashers, hooligans and addled youth who proliferate today's modern social climate. We need more drunk 17 year olds bashing people outside jimmys night club, pepped up on red bulls and hot sauce. We need more young people attending orgies and driving wrecklessly into crowds of strangers who appear out of no where.

We need more of this.

Putting the fear of discipline into the youth.. what sort of evil swine would consider this.

I agree on Rangel's intentions (as you are correct in his class ideology regarding the subject of the draft) BUT if it is BHOs intention to initiate his Domestic Security Force then this is the perfect cover....it came out of Congress not the White House (wink. wink).

But that is Not how it should be, EVERYONE one should have the same requirement regardlass of who they are related to or money.

There are still people today who think it okay for those with the power and the guns to round people up against their will and force them to do their bidding?

You already have a Domestic Security Force, it is called The National Guard!

Oops, that is run by the State Governments. Crap, you have to have a Federal Domestic Security Force to counter the Power of the State's National Guard. You see, you cannot rely on the Federal Armed Services because that pesky Constitution does not allow them to act against citizens on home turf.

I'm assuming you are youngish? I'm 50 years old. I've seen the brainwashing of our youth, and my step=child, and grand-daughter in school now,about global warming and communism - which the oldest (16 years-old) understands as "brain-washing" - what is your experience?

I can see this "law" as continuing the brain-washing that has been done through public school "education".
