It began September 11th, 2001.

Since then, the attacks on the middle east have escalated... coming up with every excuse under the sun to justify going into battle with the next country in line and so forth. Ultimately, spreading out many allied countries' manpower, munitions, and monies throughout these various middle eastern "terrorist" countries.

Eventually, it will escalate to the point of full on attack of Iran or some other significant middle eastern country, possibly even Israel (not from us of course). From this, allied countries will spread themselves even thinner which will then be the opportune moment for North Korea to attack South Korea, and maybe even China jumping in to attack Taiwan.

Then allied forces from both sides (whoever decides to play on whomever's side of the field) will develop quickly into full blown war with each other.

We're currently in the build up of this climax.
We just haven't recognized and labelled it as such yet.

The same build up happened with WW1 and WW2. It wasn't until full scale war was announced before it was recognized as an actual "world" war.

Hindsight is 20/20.

We will always have conflicts, some of them large, but the world will never divide up into sides again and go at each other with everything they have.

I have to echo this sentiment.

About the ONLY way I could see this happening is with someone strong enough in the Middle East to galvanize all Islamic countries into a perceived Jihad. In truth, the war would be about what all wars are....resources, but it would be shrouded in the idea of a holy war against the West.

Pride/ego- of superpowers russia and US; 'the cold war'

Competence- cold war left a desire to best the other at any cost; birth of Al Quaeda during afghanisthan invasion

Hatred- against west; religious extremists born; 9/11

Vengance- of US government; iraq invasion

Jealousy- emergence of new powers

Frustration- of people in middle east over regime; arab spring

Greed- for resources, security; middle east issue

....and it goes on and on......cycle after cycle; WW3, 4, 5.....

wish there was more than one star to give so here are 60 most fail to see that yes it is a world war, they will not except this because it is not a nuke war, no fixed lines or whom can be defined as friend or foe, they fail to see this is the new war there are no fixed lines nor defined battle fields,. Some might get their WW3 nuke war with in Korea, for yes i do think in our life time we will see the Mushroom cloud or 2. but on a limited scale not full blown all out nuke war, no nation wants no wills that but one, oh 2 forgot Iran.

There's always war in the world, somewhere, but this is way different than what we saw in WWI or WWII.... We'll never see WWIII because we're all too dependent on each other. We'll have fights, and battles, but not the kind of all encompassing mass global theaters of yesteryear....

WWII never ended? I'll grant that some of the conflicts in that war do seem to continue...the current crisis included.
