ADVISOR,

On top of that, I think you all should bump threads like this and other "older" threads every now and then, to show what these Mods were like before they were mods, only to help show that you all are still humans.

What's funny is to imagine when SO started this thread, and how huge ATS has become now!

Strangers in a city... now it's more like strangers in a state now! ATS is getting bigger and better as every day goes by!

I try to keep mod activity separate to what happens when they act as members. I have seen most mods also mention when they are acting solely as a member, and not as a mod, in order to prevent any problems.

With all due respect, I've done mod work, and it is at times a thankless thing. You'll be dipped if you, and dipped if you don't. Posters who can't respect what has to be done should live with it, or stop posting. When you get right down to it, some peole get mad because they can't defend their arguments. When you bring a knife to a gunfight, you will get schooled. Online communities are all about tolerance and exposure to new ideas. You don't have to like 'em, but you do ahve to play nice.

Being a mod is not important to me. If I was relieved of the title today I would still be here tomorrow.

What is important to me is learning, growing and sharing the experiance that is life. The members of this board have given me perspectives and ideas that I could never have even conceived on my own.

I give thanks to each and every member of the board for teaching me these things. I am a student of life, and I have found teachers here that I have searched my whole life to find.

Every one who teaches you leaves a part of their soul in yours, or in mine. I am grateful to every member who took the time to share what they could of themselves with me.

I am richer for the experiance,

ok so ive noticed that alot of banned members posted on their ideas for mods(not saying that mods banned it) but what ive noticed is that the banned ones are the mod haters(case in point tututkamen)

but nonetheless mods are great i know im way beyond new(and people that joined in 2004 say their new) to the site and in that mondo short ammount of time ive noticed that mods get flamed about their opinions...
and thats just wrong what they have to say matters too.
and what i find hilarious is that im 16years old and people in their late 30's are some of the most insensitive (mind my french) bastards ive ever had the misfortune to read their posts. arent you supposed to get wiser with age? smarter perhaps? thats not the case with alot of people though.

oh well mods have the right to say as they please( minding the TOS)
so just deal with it people.

p.s. funny how a 16 year old can be smarter and wiser than someone much older then them.

Hey mate, as a long time member and newly appointed staff member, I'll throw my two cents in here. For as long as I can remember, staff always reminded the membership that plenty of discussion went into every move they made. It was never one staff member "picking" on a member. Since my promotion, I have seen how true this is. If a member is warned, post banned, put on global ignore, or outright banned, it is because we as a staff have agreed to it. You would be very surprised to see how much discussion goes into every incident on our community. And if you think for one second that this staff would permit a punitive action against a member for disagreeing, than well, you are not grasping the concept of what ATS is.

"Mod Haters" are not banned. Members who do not abide by the Terms & Conditions are banned, and only after repeated efforts to maintain civility.

Your right. I did miss the point. And the point still escapes me mate.

Your not saying we ban for them hating us, but they hate us for banning them for a completely different reason. Well, that would imply they are a mod hater after we ban them. Seems the term "Mod Hater" is in reference to a current member who has not been banned.

The older a thread is, the more you see people who are banned. It seems the longer people are on here, they either get banned, become a moderator/super Mod. Some get FSME status as well. Active members who don't come under those categories and have been on since 2002 are very few and far between. In fact I only remember seeing one from 2002 regularly.

I think that most of them are. There are some exceptions, though.

MirthfulMe come to mind. (monkey sporting a dandy fez)

And I am sure that a couple of them are just computer programs "a la Matrix".

When you see that the site is loading slowly, it has to be that they had "cut the hard line".

The Matrix has you now!!!

It's been a while...

But for some of the new members this might be a good read concerning this aspect of ATS discussion policy.

I'm not sure if this was mentioned in the thread, and I don't have the patience to read all 200 posts in this thread.

I think of the Mods as members first, they are the same as any other member when it comes to their posts, thoughts, ideas, and threads they start. But in the end they are still members like the rest of us.

The only difference is that Mods are willing to take on extra responsibilities to help keep this one of the best discussion boards on the web. Sure, they deserve a little more respect for the dedication they have to ATS, and their willingness to spend their time to help in keeping these boards great.
They enforce the T&C, but they are bound to the rules the same as the rest of us.

I see no reason not to challenge a Mod on their opinion in a thread, and other members should never be intimidated to express their own opinion, even if it goes against a Mods opinion.

I've seen Mods come and go in my time here, and I've even see some get banned for breaking the rules the same way any member would be banned for violating the T&C on a continuing basis or an extreme violation.

So yes, Mods are people to.
They just work harder and have all those other cool buttons under their avatar.
