As far as the stone in question. I cannot really make out what is written or rather carved on the stone, so I cannot say with any confidence what this could be. The pictures relating it to the Sagan image is neat, but until this is corroborated and I can see some clear pictures, or maybe an outline or something, I cannot have an opinion as far as origin, age, etc...

The scholarship done on the object, being from a foreign source, is unfortunate in that exposure to the work is limited mainly to that country. There still may be an opportunity for fact-checking the article, but I have a feeling that finding sources in English may be difficult. It is a pretty cool story and find, but I am just not really sure about the object itself.

I'd like to be able to keep track of this story for further developments, but I have a feeling it will disappear never to be heard of again--as so many do....

Definitely an odd looking rock if it is a rock. One of the pics almost looks like it is a rock that someone fashioned an iron cage around.....will see if I can edit it to show what I mean and re-upload.

Ok....in the pic below I circled the area that looks like it may be "fashioned" metal wrapped around a stone. The darker material even appears to have rust or discoloration on it. It has unusual curves....almost looks like a very primitive version of a faberge egg. Anywho...

My guess is this is some kind of "decoration", for lack of a better term, that was manmade a long time ago fashioned with a rock wrapped in an iron cage.

I don't know exactly what it means. It just struck me as odd that it appears to be the same image that was sent with the space craft, but reversed.
