It's all good because my insurance policy (Im dead by the way) will pay out a few bills to the families?
That's the point, right?

I for one think it's a wonderful idea. Automoble insurance is required to own and use a car (another possible deadly weapon). I think you should have to carry insurance to cover the property damage and injuries that you MAY cause with a firearm.
And for you 'self-reliant', libertarian, pay your own way, types, this is a way to put your money and ideals where your mouth is. You cause damage, you are irresponsible - You pay to clean it up - not us through the State.

You could do a forced insurance policy on gun owners. You must have a policy that will cover anybody who might be shot by your gun. Policy will require you to take a test every so many years. If you have bad eye sight to bad you can't use your gun anymore. All the family members in your house have to be covered on your fire arm no matter how old they are and must be cleared for you to have a firearm.
Just think about what the government can force upon you if you do not step forward with a open discussion. You can't play the game the NRA did last year now.
www.theblaze.com...
“Why should I or the NRA go sit down with a group of people that have spent a lifetime trying to destroy the Second Amendment in the United States?” LaPierre rhetorically asked during an interview with the Times Monday. “It shouldn’t be a dialogue about guns; it really should be a dialogue about dangerous people.”
Well this shooting happened in the heart of the assault weapons hub of sales. Hell Cerberus is tied to this town. The NSSF - National Shooting Sports Foundation and all the TV shows they have are tied to this town. And this is the second mass shooting with guns from the same store in this town. There was eight people killed at a beer distribution center by a shooter.
And NSSF answer to the Virginia Tech shooting and taking guns out of the schools? The NSSF started a funding program for students to create gun clubs in the schools for shooting.edit on 23-12-2012 by JBA2848 because: (no reason given)

I have no doubt that all of these schemes are also intended as a form of back-door gun registration so that the state can have a list of all gun owners when the time comes for eventual confiscation of civilian firearms. They can always say that its not the state keeping the list but, you can bet that it won't take much to force insurance companies to hand over their client lists when the time comes, if they don't hand them over willingly that is.

Yes, precisely. Because you are responsible for the weapon period.
You want to keep your guns so you can feel like a real (insert your own thang) then be responsible and don't tread on other peoples lives and property (including your children).

What better way to gather gun ownership information. I bet a violation will cost your guns, or even your right to own a gun.
Seems like they really want to know just who has em, how many and what kind.

I just love this - it shows, oh so clearly, the hypocracy of gun freaks (don't f*** with me or my gun where in I have vested my identy, but I can do what I want to you because I'm special, see I have a big gun or car).

So this legislation may have been pushed by insurance companies? Insurance companies won't pay claims, they just tie everything up in court and make everyone unhappy. Capitalism at it's finest.
