The incident occurred before noon at the St. Lucie Shooting Center in the 400 block of Northwest Concourse Place, said Master Sgt. Frank Sabol, police spokesman. The man rented a .22-caliber revolver and a background check was performed, Sabol said. The man received a brief course in gun handling and began target shooting.

The man then shot himself in the head.

The shooting, still under investigation Saturday, was either accidental or suicidal, Sabol said, and investigators are leaning toward ruling suicide.

If so how did the mistake that took his life happen? And why does no one seem to know what happened?

It seems strange that two ex cops did not notice that someone was suicidal standing in front of them and actually going through a back ground check with them. The whole story seems off to me. But on the other hand what kind of cover story could you possibly come up with for what happened?

He did it while being trained how to shoot. He rented a gun and then was being given instructions on how to shoot. Then he shoots himself in the head and no one knows how?

Have you ever read stories that are told by the family members of someone thats committed suicide?
A lot of times, they will say that the day they did it, everything seemed normal, they wouldve never expected
them to do something like this and it was a total surprise.
If family members dont recognize the signs, how do you expect strangers to recognize them?

Was the instructors name Kevorkian by any chance?

You do realize that in a matter of 2 seconds a person can take a loaded pistol and blow their brains out right???

Do most people just rent a gun to someone who needs to be shown how to use in the first place and just leave them alone with it? Why would a certified NRA instructor and a ex cop do this? Or is it just that normal of a thing to let people play with it for a while to get the feel of it as they shoot themselves in the head? I guess that is one way to get the feel of it. And the instructors would read on paper as being some of the best of the best. Law enforcement NRA Certified and so on. And if they just left the suicidal guy alone with a rented gun then what is it with the misleading pictures from there website about gun training and how a instructor is basically holding the ladies arms for her. Or is that just him feeling her up and a guy would be treated differently?

Why does there always have to be someone to blame? It happens: People commit suicide, and they don't have to have any kind of history that indicates they would do so. There's absolutely no reason that an instructor could look at him and decide: "Well, this guy looks like a suicide waiting to happen, even though he has no history. No gun for you, pal." It's insane to expect that of anyone--even the best psychiatrist....

Not to get technical but the article says

Now as I read that, his "brief course" is in the past tense. So it sounds like they do a quick background, give you a 5 minute once over to make sure you know where the trigger, safety and basic controls to load and unload the weapon are while watching closely to make sure you're not playing John Wayne with it to scare people on the spot. Then turned loose to go kill a paper target with the least powerful gun they had at the range?

Perhaps he was in a full blown course .... but it doesn't read that way? Who knows why people commit suicide. It doesn't mean they are drooling crazies though and he was probably quite determined to pass on through whatever was required of him to get to the shooting station with a loaded gun. How could a range master know when professional mental health workers miss it often enough to be notable within their own patients?

It would be no different than the guy going to the store, passing background check, taking gun home and shooting his self but in the case, the range just happens to rent guns for people that cant or wont buy one.
Youre just reaching for a reason to blame guns and the NRA and i can tell that you wont even try to be reasonable.

You would not want a teacher in a school to say that about a student in there class who kills them selves. Why is a gun instructor any different?

Without siding with anyone regarding the reasoning for the title used here in this thread.....it always used to be standard procedure here that you use the proper title from the article when posting a news article.

It is posted in general conspiracy not breaking news. This is about two ex cops running a gun training class where a student shot himself in the head and they say they don't know how. I say the cops picked the best excuse they could come up. And for what happened there is no good excuse.

If it happened on a driving coarse at the instructors building while he was teaching the student how to drive. Yes!

St.Lucie Shooting Center and Training Facility Friday. Saturday morning Concealed Carry Class at 10:00 AM and then we are having another class at 4 :00 PM! Class is apx. 3 hours and SLSC provides everything needed; Range Time, Ammo, and Firearm. Come and join us. SLSC will keep the Range open afterwards. Keep on eye on the NEWS at 11:00 tonight---Jenna did a Special Report on the Shooting Center and the CCW classes. SEAN HANNITY has been giving us some nice recognition on his radio show too. Hopefully we'll have Sean visit in the near future and join us for a few hours of shooting and a Bar B Que! Now that would be nice!! I've been talking with him and try to convice him that the weather here is a lot nicer and we have the nicest and friendliest range
