that's funny,,,what make them more of a human than you or I..because they are still living in the stoneage? I don't have a problem with them but the fisherman posed no threat to them other than grabbing their fish...so should we be able to kill other japanese fishermen because they wandered into our fishing holes? They are just as barbaric as us which in some ways makes us equal...we just learned to live more comfortably...

edit on 1-2-2013 by chrismarco because: as usual my comments make no sense...some editing needed

I disagree.
Remember this tribe has no contact with the outside world. So they have no immunity to any diseases that we normally do.
Influenza or any other disease could be deadly to them.

And it's their right to defend themselves against anyone coming onto their land.

"However they did not respond - they were probably drunk - and the boat drifted into the shallows where they were attacked and killed."

.....but fell into a deep sleep, probably helped by large amounts of alcohol.

Attempts to recover the bodies of the two men have been suspended....

??? ... then how can we assume they were drunk?

The tribe probably heard of how we run this world and want nothing to do with us. Soon their island would be full of condos and they will have their whole tribe shoved in a low income housing complex and have to work ten hours a day.

The tribe has no idea about the likely hood of diseases coming in, we learned that through our history...I'm under the impression they were asleep and drifted in...

Good point that went over my head...how the hell would we know if they were drunk and how would we know they drifted in... (the force is strong with this one)

We cannot begin to assume what they know or do not know.

I'm just gonna say they have the right to defend themselves and leave it at that.

Well obviously you did not read the article, unless you did not understand it correctly. The fishermen were not consciously trespassing on the island. Their anchor came loose while they were asleep, and they drifted onto the coast of the island. I understand that these people are primitive, but why do they automatically kill anyone who steps foot on their island? They do not even attempt to assess the situation it seems. There have been many other tribes similar to this, who did not behave in such a manner. But, with that said, it probably will work out better for them, but I don't know if they know that.

Its to bad the they had to learn the hard way.

Not really I don't feel sorry for them at all,,if they were close enough to drift onto shore then they were in restricted waters to begin with.
Also the people of those island have every right to be xenophobic, they have been the victims of slaving for centuries.

A couple of m16's, should show them.

But no :p
As long as people are aware that these tribes exist, they should keep away. However, more unfortunately, how long till these tribes get removed or eradicated for whatever reason.
Apparently bit of piracy in the ocean, maybe its a bit unrealistic and scooby-doo if pirates were to use the island as a hideaway for their goods though.

Going to take a look at the island on google maps, North Sentinel Island, Indian Ocean, in the search takes you to it. Pretty much covered in trees.

Did you even bother to read the original article?
If you did you would know.

Yeah those little tribes are retarded and backwards, there was another one in the 70s that was dying and outsiders had to tell them to stop eating each other.

They didn't even intentionally go onto their island, there was no need for a "defense"
But they are to primitive to understand anything. They are murders in the civilized world.
They should suffer the consequences in my opinion.

Maybe I'm just in a bad mood...

They also appear to have a history of hostility to outsiders.

And...

Outsiders haven't been hostile to Natives?

I say good for them

How is it hostile? They're protecting what is there's.

If someone comes unannounced into my house is defending myself and my family really hostile?

Good point.

Considering they were apparently drunk, they may have been hostile themselves.

The story's ~6 years old and has been around the ATS block a few times.

I hope those guys are still living their lives in the way they choose to.

It's interesting to think that we're all reading this thread and are surrounded by a cacophony of modern noises and accumulated junk. But 'out there' are a people living life like the Sentinelese, rain on the canopies, birdsong and brains empty of the clutter ours are made of.

Leave the Sentinelese people alone, yeh they are as crazy as hell but so what because so is the rest of the world.
