Would the US Government create terror attacks

being a non-US citizen (living in London) it's always interesting to see/read articles posted on ATS regarding the mistrust of the US administration.

Would it be conceivable (running up the election) to feel that there is a possibility that the Gov would cause a widespread fear/panic sensation with these new terror alerts to encourage voters to vote for a war-active president seeing that the polls are so close?

The US government actually stoop so low as to use underhand and downright dirty propaganda tactics on it own people?!?!

The US political system is (largely) based on Platos Republic. Now have a read of Karl Poppers "the open society and its enemies" where he looks for the totalitarian elements in the republic....

Take LYING TO THE PUBLIC for example, which is seen as a RIGHT FOR THOSE IN POWER!

Now is it any wonder the US government also sees it a a right?

Bush would never lie to the American People. He is a good man. The rest of the government that's a different story. Take Clinton and those Clintonits still in power as an example or heck any Liberal-Communist- Socialist-Democrat, they all lie.

Look at how the American people are so wrapped up in Terrorism. It was the Bush administration's goal to gather the nation to fear/fight one common enemy.

Having a look round at non-democratic republics - they are all being manipulated by means of politics, financial constraints, 3rd world debt etc, etc...if one doeas not conform to Democracy/Capitalism then you are out in the Global cold room.

This is not something I agree with at all and I think is a totally disgusting attribute which (unfortunately) the US is being labeled with.

Serious questions....not trying to debunk in any way. I need to understand this. What about the plane that crashed before it got to target. Weren't there people on those planes who called home from the plane? Were they real? Or were all the people who told stories of their loved ones actors? If so why has no one come forward to say so? If it was real and our government was in on it, it is even sicker to think that they used one real plane, the only one allowed to make phone calls out during the attack, to further their lies so the American public would believe.

Ok so assuming for the sake of argument that 9/11 was staged by our own government. Now in the light of a new terror threat and this OBL video today....what does that mean for us? How do we protect ourselves? What can we do? Are these new videos just election tactics or will they have to follow through with the threats?

I'm not saying I believe one way or the other at this point. Just asking.... assuming our govt is involved in 9/11, the Adam tape, the OBL video today, what does this mean for the average American?

Well, lets assume what you just said is true. Yet, OBL and Al Qaeda were responsible for the 9/11 attacks according to the media & administration. I suppose OBL and Al Qaeda would have to be in business with the administration in some fashion, to go along with such a plan!

I seem to remember reading something called "Operation Northwoods." I could be wrong about this, but I think it was a plan to launch America into war with Russia by faking an attack on American soil. This was one option if it was clear we had the capability to defeat the Soviets.

Personally, I find this sort of thing disgusting. Yes, the government lies to us. Read the Pentagon Papers. If you work for the government, publish another set. Of course they lie: democrats and republicans.

Regardless of whether you stand on the right or the left, your duty as a citizen is to DOUBT whatever the government tells you. 230 years ago, the first Americans were setting this example. Those that cry out for obedience have been treasonously tricked; its always easier to rule a mob of people cheering your name (or four more years, or even Go Kerry Go!)than people thinking critically and independantly about the narratives they're force-fed on Corporate News Networks.

I only hope the words "martial law" don't start leaving the mouths of these rich guys. And if so, how long would it take for the people to learn to doubt again like they did 230 years ago; or will the TV just make us all feel better?

Are you guys suggesting I should look into survival supplies? Seriously, I am fairly ignorant of politics as I haven't seen a candidate in my adult life I felt was worthy of the presidencyand I felt like there were not honest so why pay attention. Guess now I know why. I honestly would like to know:

1. Worst case scenario.
2. Most likely scenario.
3. Honestly....what do you think aboout this and what will you do?

Well, as an American residing abroad, I'll do what I can for my personal safety and then begin petitioning foreign governments for intervention, or try to organize/work with groups to do the same.

"Martial law" means the end of democracy, and the end of freedom (even though it would be promised for only a short time). A stolen election (ballots are ALREADY missing in Florida) would also be the end of democracy.To paraphrase the first few lines of the Declaration of Independance, when government screws up, its the DUTY of the citizens to take them out and make a new one. I only hope we're all in "worst-case scenario" land and this whole mess ends peacefully.

I'm young too, so this is my first election. Using the internet to try to find lots of different news sources (that arent all run by people in big business) is a good start. You'll notice different information and different presentations of information; AlJazeera, the Arabic television station, even has a website in English. Before running out and buying survival supplies (and having some cans of baby food in the house never hurts), I would suggest that you (and everyone) simply VOTE.

Certainly if the government is behind these event or involved in anyway, it cant just be to win an election. After all, Bush was already in office when 9/11 happened. Some members have said that he was slipping in the polls before it happened, but kill thousands of people for that? Or so that he has justification to attack Iraq? Why start a war for no reason? Now if we remember back to 9/11 Norad and FEMA were running an mock terror attack that involved crashing planes into buildings. We all know what happened on 9/11.

Well is a co-incidence that Norad and FEMA are going to run a mock terror attack relating to chemical and biological weapons on none other than election day?

Why this particular day?

Look at the reports we have been given lately.

Heaps of explosives missing in Iraq, supposedly now in the hands of terrorists.

Al Quaeda releases a video stating an attack that will make 9/11 look like nothing is in the making

OBL releases a video just before the election.

I think the stage is set for the next attack. How much of a part the Bush administration plays in all this is anybodies guess, but if it ever came out that they were involved in it(as claimed by Michael Ruppert) all hell will break loose probably resulting in a civilian uprising.
