This is an interesting bunch, there was a documentary about them on tv awhile ago. Canada has it's secret military orders too!!! There is not much on the net about this group. But this is an article I found.

When Defence Minister Art Eggleton first outlined our militarys contribution to the war on terror, most Canadians (including the national media) were surprised to hear that Canada even possessed an elite counter-terrorism unit. From that moment forward, the phone lines at Esprit de Corps Magazine have been lit up with callers seeking background information on the Joint Task Force II (JTF II), and this curiosity has only intensified since the U.S. launched their first special forces assault into Afghanistan on 19 October.

ROFL. Canada's Commandos. An oxymoron if there ever was one.

A Canadian Commando could kick the butt of an American Commando anyday.

What Canada lacks in quantity, she makes up in quality.

You haven't seen what these commando's are capable of. Canadian soldiers fought Amercan soldiers in a battle once, long time ago, and guess who won that battle, The CANADIANS! I'll try to find the name of that battle if I can.

That would be during the war of 1812. Don't know what battle it was. Maybe the Long-Sault battle.

Here is a CBC news article on JTF II

www.cbc.ca...

If truth is one of the first casualties of war, secrecy is one of war's first exigencies. There is no better instance of this than Canada's elite commando unit, which is so secretive Canadian authorities are hesitant even to refer to it as an elite commando unit.

But the United States is well aware of Canada's Joint Task Force 2 (JTF2). The U.S. was impressed by JTF2's performance in Afghanistan and had its eye on the unit for its campaign in Iraq.

This is Canada's special force, our elite fighters. They are selected and trained as rigorously as any elite force in the world, which includes Britain's Special Air Service (SAS) and, in the United States, the Green Berets, Rangers and Delta Force. The requirements of the U.S. super-elite Delta Force probably also apply to Britain's SAS and Canada's JTF2, which means a quarter of those who volunteer and these are top soldiers are routinely washed out. Of those who go on, one in 10 makes it to the elite unit.

The Department of National Defence on JTF2

The Joint Task Force Two (JTF 2) of the Canadian Forces is a Special Operations Forces unit that is responsible for federal counter-terrorist operations

The mission of JTF 2 is to provide a force capable of rendering armed assistance in the resolution of an incident that is affecting, or has the potential to affect, the national interest. The primary focus is counter-terrorism (CT), however, the unit can expect to be employed on other high value strategic tasks.

Our military is under-equipped, undermanned, and under-funded. I'm sure, however, that certain elements of it are well trained. It is what it is, and the men and women aserving in it are no less honourable than any others.

Are you in this task force, by any chance?

My question is, Is there a JTF I? Considering this one is two, wouldn't there have been some predecessor?

No, my apologies. I didn't know you were a countryman. I thought you were dissing Canadians. It's one of those "only I can call my whore sister a whore" type things.

Ponderosa: That's one of the funny things about JTF2. There is not nor has there ever been a JTF1 but it's so top secret that they won't comment on why the f it's #2

Ohh yes, I remember now.. We chased them back to the white house after they tried to occupy our nation. Then we burnt it down.

Really? I thought it was the British? Seeing how our country didn't exist back then...
I would just hate for the States to hold that against us as Canadians. Have you ever seen "Canadian Bacon"?

So, may I ask.

Are any of them deployed on American Soil, by any chance?

Most likely no, they are probably in Afghanistan.(or Iraq but I highly doubt that) JTF2 is hardcore. Maybe not as HC as the Brits or the Aussies, but our Snipers are the best in the world.

Your last statement doesn't surprise me and as far as not being as HC as the others, I imagine that is debatable. I was surprised to find out that the US Air Force now has their own Special Forces and that their training is as touch as, or even more than, that of the Navy Seals. So, it wouldn't surprise me if JTF2 ranks right up there as well.

However, I think that you will find that the War on Terrorism has resulted in 'sharing' between the Forces and that there are some of them down here...

I'm sure they are a very competent group. Oh, and you are right, you Canadians have the best snipers in the world(yes, even better than our Marines)
