Last I saw the man had allowed them to bring medicine for the kid and the kid was watching t.v. in the bunker. Weird situation. This guy has obviously got a mental disorder if he thought this was a better idea than going to court and getting a fine or probation for menacing. He said "they (the police) were after him" because he skipped court for a menacing charge.

This is a failure to by the police and neighborhood. They should have taken this man's guns as he is obviously mentally ill. His neighbors said he patrols his yard at night with a shotgun and flashlight and had threatened multiple people with guns. We can't blame guns for the actions of the obviously mentally ill.

anyone else think this part is a little strange and a little too familiar?

Mike Creel, who said the suspect was his neighbor, told the local Dothan Eagle newspaper he spoke to some of the shaken children. “I talked to a girl that was riding the bus, and she told me that he came on the bus and said, ‘I need two kids between the ages of 6 and 8,’” Creel said.

A 6-year-old kindergartner remains a hostage more than a day after his abductor boarded a school bus in the southeast Alabama town of Midland City, fatally shot the bus driver and took the boy to a nearby underground bunker

I can't believe this is still going on. If I were the parent of that little guy I would be so terrified. The poor boy. I hope this ends soon, and the little guy is safe in the end

Someone on my facebook, her kids got off the bus right before this happened. I guess the cops evacuated her home and others around it for safety. How terrifying.

MIDLAND CITY, AL (WSFA) -
Authorities and the suspected killer of a school bus driver and abductor of a 6-year-old kindergartner remain locked in a hostage standoff in southeastern Alabama that's spanned more than 30 hours. oh my thi sguy was a ticking time bomb

from AP
bigstory.ap.org...

The gunman, identified by neighbors as Jimmy Lee Dykes, a 65-year-old retired truck driver, was known around the neighborhood as a menacing figure who once beat a dog to death with a lead pipe, threatened to shoot children for setting foot on his property and patrolled his yard at night with a flashlight and a shotgun

What the hell? he just wanted a hostage for something I dont know if this is gonna turn out ok for that child

As far as we know there is no relation at all. He just wanted a child for a hostage situation," said Michael Senn, a pastor who helped comfort the traumatized children after the attack.

Authorities initially said the boy was 6, but state Rep. Steve Clouse, who visited the boy's family, said he does not turn 6 until next week

Haven't heard much news other than its still on going, wonder why. They just to gas the bunker and breach it. Extract the child and eliminate the threat.
48 hrs in so far

In case anyone hasn't noticed. You aren't getting THAT much info about this situation at all, and for one time I COMMEND the media (and authorities) for keeping it somewhat on the DL...at least until it's over. I am sure he has at least a TV in that bunker. I can't stop thinking about the poor child.

This is big news. The lack of coverage is confusing... I hope you guys realize that he can stay down there forever. They will always make sure the kids needs are met, and in turn this guy will be fed and watered as well.

Kid is hungry, Kid wants to watch TV, Kid wants pizza etc etc etc....

God, I hope they dont make a Waco out of this one!

We all heard it during the Newtown news coverage, over and over again:
"...kids between the ages of six and eight..."
"...kids between the ages of six and eight..."
"...kids between the ages of six and eight..."
"...kids between the ages of six and eight..."
"...kids between the ages of six and eight..."

And then this guy storms a bus and says "...I need two kids between the ages of six and eight!"

And it seems to me like the media are ignoring this whole situation. And consequently ATS has been notably quiet about it too.

Are the media not chiming in on this with their usual enthusiasm because the shooter/kidnapper is still alive, and therefore possibly able to tell his own story? Are they staying quiet because this situation precludes them the ability to just make up a story as they go along, like they have arguably done in --other recent situations--?

Parents be warned.

I'm not all that far from there....not in that area but close enough it is big on our local news. They are REALLY playing up the "he is a conspiracy theorist angle.

My husband was saying it seems like a set up and wants to know if kids are related to him.

It looked on the news like half the ARMY was down there. Looked more military than cop.

They kept saying he was paranoid...conspiracy theorist who thought government was his biggest enemy.

just an update

4th day now
bigstory.ap.org...

The standoff between police and a gunman accused of holding a kindergartner hostage in an underground bunker dragged into a fourth day on Friday, as authorities sought to continue delicate conversations with the man through a pipe and worked to safely end the tense situation.

How do you get them out and keep the boy safe?

There were signs the standoff could go on: the shelter has electricity, food, TV, and police have delivered the boy's medication through a 4-inch-wide ventilation pipe leading to the bunker.

Hostage negotiators have used the pipe to talk to the gunman, but investigators have been tightlipped about their conversations.

The shelter was about 4 feet underground, with about 6-by-8 feet of floor space and the PVC pipe that negotiators were speaking through, said James Arrington, police chief of the neighboring town of Pinckard

Thank you for the update,i keep checking, even when im not logged in-each time hoping to see that this is over.I should hope the negotiators insist on speaking to the boy too,and can at least pass messages between him and his parents-that would help the poor kid and his folks a bit to get through this.I find it worrying that he could beat a dog to death, this man,and at least one adult.Still,it does'nt automatically follow that he would kill a child too. What does worry me,i don't see any good outcome for the hostage taker, and he must be aware of that also.I so wish this would End now,and this poor child can go home already!!!!!

It might be that this story is too hard to spin in the usual conspiracist way. You know, a false flag to demonize crazy survivalist government hating nutjobs
