You people are making ATS a miserable place....

I have been coming to this site for awhile, first lurking and reading posts. Then when I was ready to start the threads that brought me here I signed up for a account, which I still haven't posted my original intentions that brought me here because everything was derailed by the following.

First it was the elections, I got caught up with the vs discussions and even started my own threads and joined in on the debates...that is until it got out of hand and I couldn't even handle coming to ATS because the growing amount of insults, ridiculous threads, and even major propaganda that was just nothing but false.

So when elections passed I was exited to get back into the normal flow of discussions here on ATS...that is until Sandy Hook.

The discussions on that subject, were/are some of the most irrational, argumentative, and just plain disrespectful conversations I have ever read on this site (Which to my astonishment is still going on to a certain degree). Which of course Sandy Hook led to the gun control conversations/laws, which again leads into irrational, argumentative, and disrespectful discussions.

I even went as far as trying to establish a thread to discuss it in a reasonable manner and all it brought was one side of the debate. I can not even log in anymore without seeing 15 posts relating to gun control, it is taking over this site and it is making me not even want to come here any longer. The discussions have moved way beyond Conspiracy theories, aliens, and other topics not easily found on other sites in one place.

So going forward, I will not be posting commenting or feeding into this subject, I would love ATS to turn back into the site that made me want to sign up for an account. Now I will be getting back to the reasons why I came here! I will not get caught up in your titles, no matter how shocking, irrational, or interesting the subject line is!

Are you finished with your self indulgent rant? You say you are done as if that will take away from the discourse in some significant manner. If you don't like the conversation about a particular subject then don't participate. If you see something offensive or wrong that may violate the terms and conditions of this site then take the proper avenues for reporting said violations. Adding to the maddness by posting "rants" such as this does not help.

If you don't like what you see here, don't come here, it's that simple. Thanks for listening to my rant.

Nice title to your rant by the way. Especially the " you people" part.

as i was not rooting for either candidate in the election, i enjoyed 'ruining' the believers on either side.
and since the 'verdict is not in' on stories such as sandy hook, i find no problem in exposing and discussing/ ridiculing the issues. [how did that 97 lbs. boy wield that powerfull weapon ... it would have knocked him on his ass]

anyway, i hope this may give some perspective on the nature of some of the things you may have seen posted.

mostly i am here because i've got no work to keep me occupied, just sayin'

I have an idea. Why don't you make a list of only the threads you'd like to see on the front page of ATS. Only the thread titles you'd like to see your thread posted with. Or, do you only want to see only your thread on the front page. If you make that list for us, all us *you people* can try to comply with your wishes.....

I totally agree yet Im ashamed to say Im one of the perpetrators.

I came to this site to read about aliens, suppressed and ancient tech, alternative news etc etc
Past few months it has become more and more like 4chan (found it the other day, what a freakin zoo that place is LOL) and less like an intelligent discussion forum.

I have told myself many times not to click on threads that upset me but I always do if theres nothing else interesting on the boards.

Ill tell myself once again Im not gonna get involved in pointless arguments, well see how long it lasts this time around, I think my record is 3 days LOL

I agree to a certain extent. ATS does get hammered with 5 or 6 threads (at the same time) about the same topic and it can get a little irritating. (election, sandy hook, gun control) Perhaps, instead of looking at the "new topics" or "trending" ones, go straight to the forums. I usually skip the main page and go directly to fragile earth. Looking at all the forums that I like allows more of a variation and ATS is just like it used to be, atleast for me.

It's Ironic but that's not my point. Be the change. Post your thoughts. Help make ATS Awesome. We cannot sit around and just rely on the main posters to keep it up. We have to continue to grow.. It's up to the noobs to form the future of ATS, as it is up to the children to take up the world one day.

Being welcoming can help new members grow, and I know if people like des and others were not around and it was all trolls and idiots I would have never opened up. Like it or not ATS is much better than the population around you or there wouldn't be a need...

There is a button labeled Forums where people can go and participate in topics of their interests.

As is normal in any forum (witch ATS is), there will be conflicting posts, trolls and shills. You may just ignore or input your views in the subject and rebut posts you disagree with.

I agree, I go to new and trending topics as a habit but I think I will switch to the forums so I can pick the conversations!

1. I do not feel that I cannot express myself, it is just easy to be distracted by shiny objects, and when I say shiny objects I mean propaganda, lies, or comments threads posted without any factual data behind it. We are not in a verbal coversation where you can only rely on what is in your head. We are on the Internet, we should be able to have factual conversations instead of bs.

2. Self expression is one thing but opinions or non factual information being passed as fact is another.

3. Leaving something open to debate is one thing, but stating this is how it is and if you do not see it you are a sheep or blind is another

4. The negativity will steer noobs from even posting for fear that everyone will start to attack them from evey side.

That is my point! It is really easy to get caught up, and then I start to look at what the discussions are driving me to, and it is not healthy or productive. I like intelligent conversations and this site is slowly sliding into a 4chan style of Dementia...

This site used to be WAY better than what it is now. The best thing to do is to not log in when using ATS, unless you want to post. I find that easier. Stay logged out and you can't see stars. Makes everything better in my opinion.
People post funny comments just for stars and most of the time, it's their own ATS buddies starring them. Get a life will ya.
Some people think stars are like some sort of important medal. Well, you're just another brick in the wall.

You are the sole proprietor, in regards to what you choose to read or to not read. It is entirely up to you. You have the absolute complete power for deciding which threads you read.

This website has around 100(+/-) different categories, sub-forums, whatever.... Most of which have absolutely nothing to do with conspiracies or aliens. You don't have to read only the Breaking/Trending/Popular.... topics.


Instead of lashing out at others for what they wrote, maybe you should consider lashing out at yourself for what you read. You're not going to change other people, which basically leaves you with 3 options.

EXACTLY!!!! You just wanna take the easy route.

Sadly, you are not alone with that. There are many other lazy punks who wanna complain about it, without even attempting to do something about it.

This site is 100% user-generated content. If you're not seeing threads based on the topics that you're interested in, then start one yourself. It's an extremely simple concept.

I understand what your feeling. I have felt the same over the last 3 months. It is the same everywhere. If you dare watch the news it is the same mindless propaganda or the same story and commentary over and over. At least here there are options.

I have avoided the gun threads and keep my focus on new threads that seem interesting. Plus try to give ATS a rest for a day or two. As if I could.

There is and will be plenty new things for us to sink our teeth into. I guarantee it! Don't give up on all of us!

I wasn't lashing out....I was ranting about my opinion in the rant forum. These non constructive comments are exactly what I was referencing.

Also, can you see the irony of telling me to deal with other peoples post by not going to those forums. When you are complaining about my post that was posted in the Rants Forum??
