Wow, never heard of this guy, and not a fan of rap and hip-hop, but I may be a fan of this guy. It's nice to see mainstream artists with a political message that isn't the same old "Change in '08" stuff we saw a few years ago, in fact, after the 08 election I'd pretty much given up on mainstream musicians and their political views. Kinda makes me want to start a band.

and yet rap has been around for 30 years, and is still the same old crap.....well, most of it
1...young black guy, posing like he's tough and bad
2...telling how life sucks, all the while living large
3...shows off garish, over the top bling
4...treating women as if he was their pimp, and acting so smooth while doing it
5...always talking like no one else but him, really knows about life.

Seems very fishy to me, given his past anti-govt. songs, that he would have even been invited to the White House. Not sure what agenda the gov't is on this time, but this makes no sense at all.

Even if it was a set-up, I love seeing the public bashing!

Great thread Pres. I never heard of Lupe before this...I'm almost an old fart...lol But I will listen now! His lyrics are powerful!

I really hope this guy goes totally mainstream now! That would be a real kick in the arse for King Barry and newly appointed Reichsmarschall Brennan!

Just hope he doesn't become the victim of a mass-shooting in a rap club from a psycho using an assault rifle.

I've been trying to turn people on to Lupe for a while now. The man speaks the truth and gets it out to more people than just about anyone else who says the things that he does. His fans are a very informed group and a lot of that credit goes to him. If people here on ATS really are who they claim they are, people like Lupe HAVE to be supported. Drop any preconceived notions of modern rap music and spread his songs. Dumbed down people will be a lot more open to hearing a song about political corruption than hearing you or me rant about it. A couple songs to listen to on youtube: "Words I Never Said" "State Run Radio" "Strange Fruition" and "Around My Way" just to name a few. Please listen to his albums and spread his music, even if you don't like rap. His whole life is about getting his positive truth-driven message out to the masses. Help him!

First of all, thanks for the thread. Star & Flag.

Second of all, I want to point out that you started this thread at 11:11PM. Seeing 11:11 is a sign that you are on the right track in life, at least that's how I see it. Powerful stuff. I Did not want this reply to be off topic but I was compelled to point that out.

I'm now a fan of Lupe Fiasco. What smart fellow.

GO LUPE
the funniest part is they cut the lights and sent the guards in, it is his first ammendment right to free speech so why go up there, and quiet him down.. theyre scared they will be exposed. someone needs to speak the truth, ive listened to lupes music for a while, i never thought he would have to balls to pull that one off though. kudos to him.

I never realized those were the actual lyrics. Someone tell my why they were stupid enough to invite him to this at all?

Go Lupe Fiasco! I don't normally like rap but I'll be adding this song to my playlists.

If rapping about getting educated, not doing drugs, helping out your community, and calling out the horrible things that we see every day is considered crazy, then yeah, you are right.

I consider it a GREAT change from the mainstream, personally.

Looks like a publicity stunt to me.

I absolutely agree with the base but this doesn't deserve front page news as he is not front page notable.

Peace

I usually agree with you Jude but this is bass ackwards...

Hes certainly getting the "message" out to more than any of us here despite all our meticulous research and polished debating skills...HE is actually being effective and there are a million ways for a person to pull a publicity stunt...he chose one that was actually of merit/value...

Stop looking at it like LUPE and look at it as the MESSAGE....the message IS front page notable...if it takes Lupe pulling a stunt to get it there so be it...

the best part is Lupe is black so people can't come in and dismiss the message as racist as they so love to do...

Hard to believe alot of you didn't know who lupe was before this video, he got pretty big back in 2008, even went on Fauxnews to debate glenn. Dude has always been an awesome wordsmith and outspoken, but that video is edited to hell. looks like hes escorted off because hes just dancing around, and not because of the lyrics?

Lupe is far from a flash in the pan artist, Chief Keef is a flash in the pan, soulja boy was a flash int he pan, but lupe has has been doing this, and has earned respect from everyone who actually follow hip hop, which you obviously don't.

This song existed before he was invited to the inauguration, it's not a publicity stunt, it's staying true to what yo believe. If he went tot he obama inauguration and didn't voice his consistent disapproval he would look like a sell out. You do him a serious disservice acting like it's only publicity, when he is one of the few voices still challenging the bull# status Quo in hip hop.

Lupe also has songs like this

I was about to say the same thing. I know a lot of people that listen to this guy here in the Netherlands. Heck I listen to metal music and I even like some of his stuff.
This one is awesome!

uh, yeah i do remember those gatherings ... protests ??
hardly.

like i said, folks of your generation don't really have a clue.

hmmm, Obama fueled anti-war protests ??
nah, haven't seen any of that ...

[only globally, state-wide and Congressionally, what makes you think it's decreased ?]

and what about OWS, are you going to claim wars abroad were NOT part of their platform ?

I think he is trying to say is that Bush was part of the actual elite, or elite family... Obama isn't
so, cousins doesn't count in your mind, eh ?

Bush is much more evil for starting the never ending war on terror, which was all planned, since the US didn't have "communists" to fight anymore.
the days of McArthyism were long before either Bush and are coming around again.
The US has more than its fair share of commies but that won't last for long.
