Manti Te'o (Notre Dame Heisman finalist) dead girlfriend a HOAX

sounds like he was the victim of a hoax, and everyone decided to jump on him and accuse him of leading the hoax himself.
That's pretty messed up.

on one hand, it could be a hoax against him and everyone accusing him are huge assholes...
on the other hand, a college kid lied about having a girlfriend and everyone cares about it.

Either way, everyone sucks.

Not quite. You are not seeing the point of the story and why it's a story. It's not about a college kid lying about a girlfriend... It's about a candidate for the Heisman posssibly lying to further his campaign to win that award. If he was complicit in the hoax for the purpose of gaining millions and millions of dollars, then that's more than a a kid lying about his gf.
