It wasnt a rifle, like many here were saying on day 1, it is a shotgun.
Maybe he isnt making a mistake, he may be doing exactly what he is supposed to be.

Why? Not because I have a stake in the outcome... but because I feel many people simply have to understand something which many (apparently) take for granted...

from the moment this event went "national" media reported on ANYTHING... every rumor, every half-assed speculation, every something or other overheard as officials walked by a media staffer.

THAT is why you never got a straight story... it's because the media's "journalists" now only report what has been sanctioned and accepted by officials as "what the people "should" know" rather than the facts.

Every long arm became a machine gun, every round became an armor piercing explosive tip flechette, the shooter became Hitler and Satan's love child, and anyone involved became the subject of controversy and suspicion. Every passer-by mentioned in police chatter became a potential child murderer...

Now, as the investigation takes place in earnest...the details form the original gore and fear-porn fest don't match. Well, what did you expect? Did you expect the so-called "news" to have any clue about what happened? Did you think they would keep there most eye-catching and inflammatory notions out of circulation?

This is why subsequent to the event the reporting all turned to the devastation and pain of the grieving. There was no more room for risk-free confabulation....

All I ask is that as we discuss this we take heed.... I can almost guarantee there is more we will never know than what we will be 'told' by anyone.

Here's the rub. It is now a month later and MSNBC says only 4 handguns on scene. Go back and watch the medical examiner of all the children, he say PRECISELY that they were all killed with a long weopon, and then confirms RIFLE. He also says that he is an expert in firearms.

I can understand media mistakes, but this is the official over the dead bodies. Wake up. You can't have the top official say rifle and then a month later say no rifle , those bullet are not confused by experts.

Date noted. But yes, it is msnbc, look at the link address. Also, if you watch that report, they say that it is confirmed 4 handguns, nothing else. So we are still left with the fact that someone official is lying.

I know a little something about firearms. And something has been bothering me since I first saw the video of the long gun being taken from the trunk of the car.

I understand it could be an AR-15. There are accessory kits available which will allow an AR to be charged from the side rather than the stock rear charging handle. So it is possible. BUT, the cartridge which is ejected from the weapon in question looks far too large to be a .223/5.56 round. Maybe possibly .308/7.62 round, that would be a closer match in size to the cartridge seen on the video, and there are certainly ARs which are chambered for that round.

It could also be a shotgun. There are certainly shotguns which look similar to the blurry (even in 1080HD) weapon taken from the car. And the size of the cartridge is closer to a shotgun shell than to an AR caliber. From the length of the shell, if it is a shotgun shell, I would guess it is a .410 gauge.

What has been bothering me though, is when I first saw the weapon, my first estimation of what it was was neither of the above possibilities. Not an AR, not a shotgun... I actually thought it was this:



Behold, the Dragunov rifle.

I have been waiting for someone on one of these scores of threads about the trunk weapon, to bring up the Dragunov rifle. But nobody has. So am I crazy? Am I the only one who sees the possibility?

It gets even more interesting when you start to speculate about a true, military *sniper rifle* being found at the scene...

Msnbc is the umbrella digital company that The Today Show online is under, along with about 6 others. The video was aired by The Today Show, not the news channel MSNBC.

Adam Lanza brought three weapons inside Sandy Hook Elementary school on December 14 and left a fourth in his car, police said. Those weapons were a Bushmaster AR-15 rifle and two handguns -- a Glock 10 mm and a Sig Sauer 9 mm.

In the car he left a shotgun, about which police have offered no details. Lanza used one of the handguns to take his own life, although police haven't said whether the gun was the Glock or the Sig Sauer.

That is part of the reason my brain screamed Dragunov, is the thumbhole stock with an additional cutout behind it, with the additional cutout being split vertically by a bar or something. I don't think I explained that very well, but if you look at the top example in the picture I posted you will see what I mean. That is the quintessential and distinctive buttstock of a Dragunov.

The day that video aired I downloaded it and have studied it literally dozens of times, and at this point I am 95% certain it is not an AR-15. I am leaning 85% towards it being a semi-auto Saiga magazine-fed shotgun. But the other 15% of me still has this nagging feeling that it is indeed a Dragunov or something similar. The problem is that a) the video is sucky quality; and b) there are so many variations of the Dragunov and it's knockoffs and similar rifles that it might take me forever and a half to find a picture of the *exact* model.

Nevertheless, I am going to try. I don't care how long it takes, I swear I *will* find a picture and 100% identify the weapon that they found in the trunk. It is bugging me too much.

Looks like an SKS. I'll have to look at the links on my computer. Im on my phone. Im going to send it to my bud a weapons collector.

Oh and here is a good little pointer.....

The president of the United States knew from the get-go that there were no assult weapons used.......I mean come on he is the president of the United States. He atleast knew by the time he signed his little orders.

But guess what, as we all know he signed them anyways. Come on people wake up the people that are saying that those orders have nothing with that school shooting are right.

What is your proof exactly? I hope you are not relying on that video that was aired in Dec. about 4 handguns. We have no idea if that is true.
