MP's wages should be performance based

they need to be linked somehow to the individuals on the street

perhaps pay them the mean national average wage or something, minus percentages for high inflation etc etc

so that when the avg joe on the street is doing better, and the country as a whole is doing better, then the mp's wages go up

With that in mind, the idea that MPs get to vote themselves a pay-rise for this economic mess is sickening. Not surprising or even disappointing...just sickening in a very predictable way.

Which they don't...

Im British.

I say that MPs are a joke.

Half the time they are not in parliament. They say they are doing their other duties, seeing constituents (voters) and other government business. As far as im concerned thats rubbish. They have jobs to do and that involves sitting in parliament all day from 9am to 5.30 with overtime when required. That is what they are MEMBERS OF PARLIAMENT. They are not Constituency Organisers or Political Oliarchs. They are members of parliement and they should sit in parliament and consider everything that is said and vote according to their constituents wishes. Half the time they are not there.

You can watch them live on the internet (but if you watch live you must have a tax levied licence else watch it later as a rerun for free) and its clear that half the time parlient is EMPTY and they vote for legislation and stuff. That is not right.

If most people only turned up for work 20% of the time they woulf be fired, not given 32% pay increases.

British polotics is a joke.

Democracy is about passing the vote to the people, but they dont consider their people, only their parties.

The people are NEVER consulted in referendums.

If you listen to them in parliement, most of the time they dont know what they are talking about.

Parliement was formed as a compromised by the King Of England such that he could formally tax the peasants, that is to formalise direct taxation as opposed to the historic indirect taxation general carried out by lords.

By creating parliement the king averted civil discord and cemented his soverignty of the island of evil people, ENGLAND.

Whilst it has been changed slightly to appease people it is still built of 3 entities, the King, Lords and Commons who all in theory keep check on each other. However, the Kings role (queen) is currently seen as redundent. Further, Lords are not elected, they are just EVIL spirits that need power to sustain their existence in this realm, thay are mostly dead and seldom discussed but they have far greater power than the MPs.

The MP's whose job is to discuss and agree legislation should be in parliement doing that. But in general they are not. Instead they are greasing the wheels of finance and hob nobbing with the elite.

There are few seats of power on this planet as archaic as parliement. It should be burnt to the ground and MPs should utilise moderna office space such as REGUS virtual offices and utilse teleconfernecing to save money and ensure expediency and effieciency.

32% of them should be sent to the worst parts of the country to start minimum wage jobs, enforced for 10 years.

Personally,I think the problem is that most of these people go into Parlement already having wealth and a privalaged life. They have usually been to Eton etc. The have no idea what its like to be on the breadline. They don't know what its like to be worried about eating for the week or if you're going to be able to heat your home through the winter. A huge shake up is needed i think. Maybe, to become a politician they should have to spend at least a year to 2 years living in an improvished area with next to no money or prospects, a work experience of a kind. Something to give them a taste of real life outside of the bubble they live in.

Parlement is supposed to be a vocation. Something you want to do for your country, to help your neighbours and fellow country men. The problem boils down to greed and money. Once money is involved, greed comes out and once that happens corruption is only a few steps behind.

I know they are not calling for a pay rise and i know they will probably not get this. What makes me sick is that they think they should have it. Maybe if it wasnt a job based on money, kickbacks and perks and instead based on a genuine desire to run the country and make it an amazing place to live and work then things may be a bit nicer for all.

What gets me is that they say 'we are all in this together' but the simple fact is they dont have any idea how the majority of people they are talking about live. The fact at a time of cuts, freezes and austerity they even mentioned that they think they should recieve more money shows this.

Just my 2 pence. I just think as it is the system is broken and needs fixing. When we have people who value money and power running things those at the bottom will always suffer.

Your so right, probably the same the world over. Probably why only 1 in 4 vote in the U.K. would it be fair to say that 75% have given up?
So what ya gonna do about it? Here's a suggestion and its what im gonna do, vote them out. Try voting for an independant party which don't have too much BS baggage. Because I'll tell you something, it doesn't matter which party win the next election.....Labour, conservatives, lib dems nothing will actually change or improve. They'll peddle there bull#e just the same.

I think the silent sufferers of the population are just starting to push back. I mean look how many seats the BNP have gained in recent years.....

You'd be hard pressed to find an MP that isn't already a millionaire, what with all their directorships, kickbacks and things.
They are the embodiment of the "culture of entitlement" and they act beyond the law, are totally unaccountable.
Guy Fawks had the right idea.
Nothing will change until we have a proper, written constitution, an elected head of state and two elected houses (The second using PR as a means to determine the seats).
Even then it may be tricky cos the corruption runs so deep.

I'm sorry but Guy Fawkes was a traitor. He tried to blow up Parliament in the name of the Roman Catholic Church. Remember, Remember the 5th of November, Gun Powder, Treason and Plot.

They really are absolutely unbelieveable. They live in their little cocooned, pampered, overpaid bubbles and expect the rest of the country to scrape and bow to their every wish.

So true. This reminds me of the time 3 or 4 years ago Tony Blair believed the average UK salary was £60,000 at a time the average UK salary was £26,000. (It currently stands at £24,000)

I don't know what goes through their heads when they arrive at work every morning.

Another thing that annoys me. You may remember they had a pay freeze through 2012 -
Source
Now that we are into 2013, straight away there is an 'anonymous' survey regarding their pay, and their response is a 32% pay rise? Is that to rub salt in the wounds of the less fortunate? As though they can turn their back on their pay freeze the year before with a massive pay rise at the beginning of 2013.

Idiots.
