Idle No More Is Here To Stay

Idle No More activities will not stop until we reach our two goals: Indigenous sovereignty (Nation to Nation relationship) and protection of the land and water (Social and Environmental Sustainability). Once we reach these goals, we will continue to work to protect them. In essence, Idle No More is here to stay.

Funny. I never heard that said about Malala before. As a native child she is probably more aware of her environment than any other kid her age. What the natives, quite accurately, are looking for are hardly new issues. Good for her.

I too was shocked that the post was deleted. Its a worldwiode movement now, not just Native Americans. A movement that is non-violent, and is that the reason it was removed before? The United Nations recognize Native Americans and the United States still has issue's, you know why? I think cause someone like me is really a prisoner of war. I can prove it.

Idle No More?
Does this mean they will work for the billions we send annually?
Mildly curious.

You know some people will live a full life to a grand old age and never have a clue how much we poison this Earth, the true Americans on the other hand have been telling us for generation after generation what we are doing.

Here is two famous quotes:

When all the trees have been cut down,
when all the animals have been hunted,
when all the waters are polluted,
when all the air is unsafe to breathe,
only then will you discover you cannot eat money.
~ Cree Prophecy ~

Humankind has not woven the web of life.
We are but one thread within it.
Whatever we do to the web, we do to ourselves.
All things are bound together.
All things connect.
~ Chief Seattle, 1854 ~

Notice the age of the second quote? yep they have been telling us this a long time and they will not stop.
Some of the few people of this planet that make me proud to be human.

Thanks OP

I'm curious about how much natives get? do you have any links? I would appreciate it

If I was a native of the Americas I would say keep your money just give us some decent pristine lands... that you promise not to steal back or destroy. Not that promises made by the government mean anything any more atleast not to the natives

The poor beleaguered Canadian taxpayer my freind.
Personally speaking, I am getting tired of paying their fair share and ending up with protests, blockades and continuous never ending whining.
It's time they put up or shut up.

The amount is billions annually.
Search for information under the Indian Act.
You may also want to search for Oka and Caledonia regarding confrontations.

Maybe it's time for the government to honor treaties. To use money they send as it should be, not as the gov't thinks it should be. Then you wouldn't have to worry about "whining". This kinda reminds me of the attitude that Peter Worthington has:

www.torontosun.com...

Hunger strike is not a protest, it's blackmail.
Yes we have our Neocons in Canada too.

This is a joke in my mind have read plenty of the bill in question and yes there is parts of it that would give rights to companies to use our water. But this idle no more garbage is because also in the bill there are part pertaining to "accountability" which is a dirty word to the FN's of Canada on the free ride. I as taxpayer have seen first hand, and like everyone else have access to information regarding FN's finances and there lack of being able to handle them properly. The money yearly is staggering yet we the tax payer see absolutely no return on our investment. This isn't about the enviroment, or land rights which is BS in my mind cause if were gonna get all we were here first then there would be no where on earth for anyone to live cause we would have back and forths for eons trying to establish places to sleep. This is because the "Canadian" people with a proper audit would see just how irresponsible the chiefs of the FN's have been and that would unleash massive backlash from those such as myself, who struggle daily to make ends meet, go to work everyday to provide for myself, while the biggest welfare state on earth can sit back whine and moan that the evil occupiers took "earth" which is everyones not some select group of peoples. its the bloody 21st century Spence is a fraud she was exposed the her reserve got $90 million in 5 yrs for 1800 +/- people and another 40 million from DeBeers. The mine up there has offered jobs to everyone. Yet have to outsource to employ what does that tell you keep on starving yourself the majority just don't care and I hope our government doesn't give into terrorist tactics that are shown by 3% of our population. I will be held hostage no more.

The free ride needs to end the Canadian tax payer wants to be #HeldHostageNoMore bye those who contribute nothing yet want everything. Sick of a two tiered system of appeasement. Get with the real world make yourselves useful and quit complaining for more of what you have never earned.

Aww does no one provide links anymore

Anyways thanks for the heads up I'll look those up, I might make a thread comparing what is given in aid to what the lands they should have held should be worth

I'm no expert in American or Canadian history, even less on the latter so it will be a good learning curve for me to find out more on this subject

So far I cannot find anything about Natives in Canada getting billions in free money, though I may not have been looking hard enough or long enough.

What I have found though is that money given is collected on behalf of the natives e.g. logging or mining
I can't help but notice a lot of broken treaties and daylight robbery.

The Caladonia case so far what I have found is the land was leased not sold and then it was sold to a company by the crown, I'll keep looking cause I maybe wrong.

Personally I think what governments done is equivalent to playing monopoly with people that have never played.... making up new rules and ways to steal or buy businesses of the people who have no clue what is going on

Not exactly, both sides have taken advantage of the treaties over the years. What bugs the he!! out of me is that when agreements are made and honored for years, one or another party is eventually aggrieved and they blockade a town or a railroad for some perceived injustice suffered upon their great great grand parents by our great great grandparents, all long dead.

Pardon my cynicism, but the First Nations seem to want their cake and eat it too. BTW, in North America, we are ALL immigrants. It seems on the surface, that one group of immigrants are taking advantage of the other. Were there wrongs, yes. Long ago and far away. Reparations have been made many times over.

I, and many other Canadians are simply tired of paying the bills for people that refuse to help themselves. Take for example the residents of Atiwapiskat (sp) A new arena complex was built with federal funds, yet their hands are out to fix the dreadful housing in which they live. Dig further into the council spending, it's in the news.

We simply can't afford to shovel money into projects that don't make sense. It's fine for someone to live on ancestral land, it's quite another to expect that all modern services, complete flood control, etc., etc., can be provided. Canada is a huge country. If 21st century living is what someone wants, they are free to move to the city. But then they would need a job, pay taxes etc, etc.

Sorry, they simply can't have it both ways.

Intrepid, the term neo-con is passe and over used.
Perhaps you could replace it with the term "common sense".
Thanks!

I can understand your predicament and that of many canadians, I have been doing a bit searching on loans and rights to benefit etc but I'm having difficulty finding federal budget spending in Canada to see just how much money is spent or wasted associated with this. Guess I'm going to have to download PDF's and stuff.... the joys of life eh
