So today I was looking at properties in a little semi-rural town called PEDRO BRAND in the Dominican Republic and I saw this great property that I am probably going to end up purchasing.

Anyway, I was trying to find it on google earth and I stumbled upon this ufo pic. I mean, I say ufo because I'm not 100% sure on what is is but I am inclined to think it's some kind of craft because sightings are so common in this island and nobody even blinks an eye around here any more when someone sees them. Aliens are not even that interesting to me, although I'm pretty sure they exist and this MIGHT be one of their craft.

I am not sure if this is a scanned picture or some instagram filter but the edges seem quite discolored. Also, the pic is slightly pixelated, so maybe it's easier for some image expert to figure out if this is photoshopped or not.

Please be respectful, I am not trying to be controversial, convert or waste my (or anybody else's) time with some juvenile hoax. I'm too old for that #. I found this on google earth and it is someone else's pic, not mine.

I did, however, want to show this random find to my fellow Atsers to see if there are another interesting theories without having to go into the typical Aliens 101 philosophical violence or aggressive religious fanaticism.

Thank you!

It also MIGHT be a bird....or an insect.......or a smudge on the lens.......alien craft has got to be a long way down the list surely?

I'm just more inclined to entertain the idea of an alien craft than Mothra or the giant eagles of Middle Earth.

Say what?

Of course we are allowed to talk about UFO's ......however we are also allowed to give opinions on what we think a grey smudge on an image is.

Excellent in-depth observation. A smudge on an image is your final answer. Thank you for participating.

Good for you!....looks like you've already made your mind up as to what it is then.

Of course you know exactly how far from the camera the "smudge" is I presume?

You might as well stop right there....I agree with this statement.

It doesn't necessarily need to be a giant something, just something close to the camera.

There is no reason to exclude bird or bug. Sure -- it could be some sort of artificially made flying craft, but it isn't necessarily that, either. It could very easily be a bird.

Well, if inclined to entertain the idea of = making up my mind then I guess I have to be more literal with you. In your opinion it's just a smudge but it doesn't really look like one. If you can come up with something less patronizing I promise to be less open minded. Deal? Now, what do you REALLY think it is?

sorry, just read your response. A bird. ok, better than a smudge but as convincing as a flying craft. Let's call it a draw.

Nope.

I said that the "smudge" could be any number of things....an insect, a plane, an artefact on the lens of the camera...I offered alternative explanations to your assumption that it "might" be an alien craft.

All things considered, I think that I may be right and you may be wrong......you do the math

I don't see a "grey smudge" anywhere in the photo. I see discolored/faded edges of the still shot. I see a dark black flee-sized blurred "speck" on the picture. Could also be a wet particle of dirt for all we know. I see a bird flying in the air. I notice the camera wasn't the best quality to take nature pictures of.

That is a comment I make to you sir.

If you want to know what a smudge looks like...look no further than below:

Oh yes, you are probably right. I'm ok with being wrong, if and when I am proven wrong. You seem to be the type that always wins tho, so let's leave it at that. Thank you for your contribution to this thread! At least you didn't say swamp gas or balloon!

This is a good observation, the speck was actually slightly more blurred than the rest of the pic, suggesting a high speed. I do feel if it was a bird at that distance it should be either more blurred or more irregularly shaped but it is rather difficult to tell. Here's an example.

If sightings were so common in the Dominican Republic than point us to the sources which cite this fact. I am very interested in your "fact" that UFO sightings are common.

Please, where are the stats....show us OP. You said it yourself!

Wait. Relax. What do you actually have here? A picture embedded in Google Earth, maybe a few years ago, by this guy right here with a caption that says: "Solar Sold from where the photo was taken ... Contact: (809) 983-0585 William " and the title" "OVNI" which means UFO in Spanish.

Is this really worth a pissing match over? What can be proven here? It's a mediocre picture with very little provenance.

Whatever it is, there are at least three of them.

Here it is zoomed in.

Use simple words! Really, provenance?
Definition Link

prov·e·nance
1. Place of origin; derivation.
2.
a. The history of the ownership of an object, especially when documented or authenticated. Used of artworks, antiques, and books.
b. The records or documents authenticating such an object or the history of its ownership.

So in other words, your high dictionariness, it is a mediocre picture with very little records authenticating such an object or the history of the object's ownership?
