most people know what a communist govenment is.
Recently, while watching Fox News and CNN, I caught myself noticing how the news media was purporting Socialism as a political system, ignoring the fact that in actuality it is an economic system. I began to wonder if the news media was doing the same for the terms Capitalism and Communism. Then I began to ponder about how accurate the information given to us by the news media is. In my opinion, the news media needs to have its facts correct which includes what is an economic system and what is not.

I agree. Most so-called communists just use that fact that communism is most logical and makes the most common sense to become dictators. Examples are the USSR, cuba, North Korea, etc. But nobody ever talks about Spain before Franco's coup. I believe that unless you've read the Communist Manifesot, Socialism: Utopian and Scientific, State and Revolution: by Lenin, the Foundations of Leninism, The New Class: Djilas, Combat Liberalism (communists detest liberalism), I do not believe that you have right to talk about it. There are many more works that ought to be read on the matter. Most of ATS believes the lies of the West, but if any, those of you whom have truly studied the communist works, what is your argument against it?edit on 2-1-2013 by NysgjerrigDame because: (no reason given)edit on 2-1-2013 by NysgjerrigDame because: (no reason given)

Why is it people who claim to be the most knowledgable about communism think its a good thing?
Determined to win at any cost, Lenin showed himself to be ruthless in his push to secure power. He launched what came to be known as the Red Terror, a vicious campaign Lenin used to eliminate the opposition within the civilian population.
Despite the breadth of the opposition, Lenin came out victorious. But the kind of country he hoped to lead never came to fruition. His defeat of an opposition that wished to keep Russia tethered to Europe’s capitalist system,\ ushered in an era of international retreat for the Lenin-led government. Russia, as he saw it, would be void of class conflict and the international wars it fostered. But the Russia he presided over was reeling from the bloody civil war he’d helped instigate.
Famine and poverty shaped much of society. In 1921, Lenin now faced the same kind of peasant uprising he’d ridden to power. Widespread strikes in cities and in rural sections of the country broke out, threatening the stability of Lenin’s government.

Always the same result, keep banging your head on those communist, socialist, Marxist walls.
I'm sure Edison failed multiple times while creating the light bulb.
All it took was that one successful experiment to make it work.
That applies to anything we have today and take for granted. Most people couldn't care less how our smart phones work, just as long as they work.
Trying to make it work sounds a lot better than dismissing the viability of it ever working while at the same time supporting Democracy which has been warped from its original intention to a shadow of its true potential.

Estimated number of victims of Communism:
In the introduction, editor Stéphane Courtois states that "...Communist regimes... turned mass crime into a full-blown system of government"[3]. He claims that a death toll totals 94 million[4]. The breakdown of the number of deaths given by Courtois is as follows:
65 million in the People's Republic of China
20 million in the Soviet Union
2 million in Cambodia
2 million in North Korea
1.7 million in Africa
1.5 million in Afghanistan
1 million in the Communist states of Eastern Europe
1 million in Vietnam
150,000 in Latin America (mainly Cuba)
10,000 deaths "resulting from actions of the international Communist movement and Communist parties not in power.

I am guessing that the OP is a younger individual, likely well educated. Just hasn't experienced life, the realization that something that sounds good doesn't mean a thing if you can't implement it....and trust me, you won't be able to implement it - people are too selfish, too greedy.
Left-wing uprisings against the Bolsheviks were a series of rebellions and uprisings against the Bolsheviks led or supported by left wing groups including Socialist Revolutionaries, Left Socialist Revolutionaries, Mensheviks, and anarchists. Some were in support of the White Movement while some tried to be an independent force. The uprisings started in 1918 and continued through the Russian Civil War and after until 1922. In response the Bolsheviks increasingly abandoned attempts to get these groups to join the government and suppressed them with force.
