For a scientific explanation as to how they form I would suggest that water condensate from the air blankets the cold , calm , salty water and begins
to converge, forming 3D crystals, where it may not be possible with salt water on it's own. Just a hunch, but it might be much more complex than

I don't know about you, Marbles, but I too denied the fact that there is no way possible for upper Arctic Circle region to be warm, until I read

May not be much but there are more things that are being kept from us that normal, such as, Earth is hollow.

This is the most amazing thing, how do these things come about? and why do they appear? on the surface of water? there is a similar thing in Alaska
where you can see very small flowers of different colors growing on some rocks. Like, how do they get the proper nutrition? and now this. May be
these two things have similar explanation?
