I wish people would not go crazy with the loud fireworks on New Years Eve, normally just before and after 00h00.

It scares the animals, and especially the dogs.
Dogs have very sensitive ears.
For dogs, the loud bangs are like torture.

I am a dog lover, and I know the fear that the loud fireworks causes in dogs.

As I sit here, I listen to the New Year fireworks, and I can hear the frightened dogs barking.

Fortunately, this does not happen all that often (once a year), but still: people should think of the animals.

Now that I have had my rant, I will say this: Happy new year to everybody!!

I feel you, me too.

As soon as 12AM rolls around, my dog will be hiding in the closet and whining. Then some dork behind me will shoot a firework off right near my house where it lands either on my roof, fly past my window or on my roof.

Happened last year on the fourth of July.

I have to say though, They haven't been buying fireworks at work.

I haven't sold one, and the display is still full.

Give it time though.

We've had to sedate our dog this year

We've tried dozens of different ways to keep her calm, not wanting to go the drugs route but this year we've had to give in.

She gets so frantic, her eyes bulge, her ears flatten to her head and she convulses for hours, wetting herself or even throwing up, even if it a single firework goes off some distance away.

So far, fingers crosses, the sedation seems to be working, she appears to be almost drunk... happy, playful, she's lost her ability to obey haha

As much as I hate drugging her, she does seem quite happy and no reaction so far to the fireworks.

I wish dogs would not go crazy with the biting and the maiming of human beings on any given day of the year, normally at any time of day.

It scares the children, and especially the young ones.
Kids have very sensitive limbs.
For kids, the vicious bites are like torture.

I am a human lover, and I know the fear that the vicious bites causes in people.

As I sit here, I listen to the growls of dogs, and I can hear the frightened kids crying.

Fortunately, this does not happen all that often (mainly in angry or upset dogs), but still: people should think of the kids.

Now that I have had my rant, I will say this: Happy new year to everybody!!

After I was to give my dog one pill, then 3, then 6 a day, I was like heck no....

Gave him the pills that night and he was too loopy off 1, I can't imagine what 6 would do in a day.

Forget that.

Haven't taken him back to that doctor.

Hi Dispo,

You gave a very original reply to my OP. I will give you that.

Your response was creative, and quick off the mark.

Dispo, I wish you a GREAT year.
And I enjoyed your post.

I'm just messin' with ya, I'm a dog person myself, I just don't think you can blame people for a bit of revelry once every 365 days!

Happy new year!

8/10

-2 points because it doesn't counter the OP's issue with a sneaky point.

Mayb 8.5 because it's new years day and I'm not hungover and was in bed before the stroke of midnight. I've become an old man in the blink of an eye. So .5 for my own morbid realisations...

Woof Woof Bang Bang Bark Bight Yelp.

Oh lord I am so with you on this one, maybe I'm getting old but I can't stand it. My neighbors have a ton of hunting dogs and they will be at it all night. Husband begged for us to get some but I put my foot down!

Geesh, it's already 8:30 and no where near 12 AM, and they are already setting them off.

My poor dog is going crazy and hiding behind me.

Ugh, I hate fireworks.

I just hope they don't set my house on fire with their irresponsibility.
