An interesting take on what may happen in Feb. 2013

Mayans and Feb 2013I have a friend that posted this video on Youtube, on which I believe that he is talking about the "Keyhole" astroid. Any thoughts?

Also, Mods, please move this as you see fit. This video deals with a couple of topics all blended into one thought, so I didn't have a clue on where exactly to put it. Thanks

I stopped this at the point he said "the mayans are the reason we have the calender we use today"

He hasn't got a clue and probably shouldn't be making videos like this in his uniform.

Mayans......... What can i say . Experts believe the object will not impact earth. But should make for good viewing through scopes. Adds a bit of interest to a dull febuary night!

Seems pretty farfetched. I know people are look for reasons to explain why certain things are happening, but I don't think this is one of them.

If it's not one date, it's another.

Nothing is going to happen, can't you 2012'ers get over this fact?

I went back just to hear what he was saying.

The moon is 0.00256957312 AU away from the earth, his asteroid is 2 or 3 AU away from the Earth, which this guy thinks is nearer.

Didn't he say it was 2.4E-4 or 2.4 x 10^-4 which would be 2.4 x 0.0001 = .00024 AU?

Not saying I agree with the entire video though.

It's coming close no doubt, but NASA says we are safe, of course I wouldn't expect them to say differently. Why cause unnecessary panic?

So by this reckoning, the nearest 2012 DA14 can get to us next year is 12,680 miles (20,406 km). For comparison, satellites in geosynchronous orbit circle our planet at an altitude of 22,245 miles (35,800 km). Other satellites orbit much lower. The International Space Station, for example, flies at around 240 miles (386 km) above the planet.

So basically it will be 50% closer to us than our satellites. Get the shave cream out. :

Very true. I will have to get onto him about his math, ect before posting a vid on youtube again. His whole theory just sounds like the "Keyhole" astroid to me... (for those who don't know, the "keyhole" astroid is the astroid that has a high potential for hitting us later in the future, only if it passes through a certain area, a "keyhole" if you will.)

wat are the chanses its gonne orbiting earth?
could it hit sattelites out?

Now I understand why the 2012 hoopla could survive for so long. Btw, the DA 14 is believed about 45 m across, so some folks could welcome the collision with the earth to study the effects.

And so what? A piece of rock 45 meters afaik, can be missiled in the air. 45 meters are you kidding me? That's nothing. I didn't get how one would start seeing the Moon's other side from some change in the graviational pull but there is no science behind that and his claim is just plain wrong. Period.

There was no ascension/rapture/5th dimension transfer; neither was there an apocolypse, day of darkness, catastrophe.

It was wrong.

Like Nostradamus, it was all nonesense.

Just let it go and leave 2013 alone.
