Yes, the new advanced combat helmets are, and were designed similiar to that of the WWII-era German helmets.

Why? Because the extra-neck support provides excellent cover for the neck and vital arteries in that area. It also adds extra support and protection to the fore-head area, allowing more protection of the head.
