coming soon to a robot retailer in your area will be a much more human like 'service' robot.

named 'Roboy', he will be able to aid in houshold chores and basic tasks.

the big difference from past mechanical endeavors in such marketable devices is that the helpful robot will have much more natural movements.
this is due to the developement of a 'tendon based' system of mobilization, as opposed to exsisting 'motor in joint' technology.

Their 15 project partners and over 40 engineers and scientists are constructing Roboy as a tendon-driven robot modeled on human beings (robots usually have their motors in their joints, giving them that “robot” break-dance look), so it will move almost as elegantly as a human.

you can friend roboy on facebook

BTW, Roboy just accepted my friend request. That’s not something you see every day. —- Ed.

What's more, at a later point in the project Roboy will be covered with "soft skin", so that interacting with him becomes safer and more pleasant.

Service robots are machines that are, to a certain extent, able to execute services independently for the convenience of human beings. Since they share their "living space" with people, user- friendliness and safety, above all, are of great importance. This is why so-called "soft robotics" – the development of robots that are soft to the touch, soft in their interaction, soft and natural in their movements – will play an ever greater role in this field

hmm... i wonder where the're headed with this.

i predict an aide to the pocket books of "ro-boy" repair technicians when it constantly breaks down, pieces fall off or it gets wet.

i see this thing in garage sales across the continent.

Monoscopic vision vs Stereoscopic vision makes the latter one more scary, believe me

The major difference between Asimo and this robot is tendon-driven, others are motor-driven. This will make the robot's move more human-like and graceful.

And Kurzweil is no stranger to the market.. Their company use to make some of the best (musical) keyboards in the worlds.

I find this all very exciting!

If Kurzweil is involved, yes this is something very interesting to be developed.

Well, interesting, anyways, but throwing in a major transhumanist in the works makes it even more so.

Release date, March 2013. Will be watching for this announcement then.

It looks like one of the robots in the movie "I Robot" with Will Smith, maybe that is why it looks scary. This would be an incredible aid to the disabled, space program , managing hazardous materials, toys, working underwater and the list goes on.

All I can say is that it needs to come with a remote just in case
