I recently joined ATS with the intentions of making this post. I wanted to share the following experiences, not only to find answers, but also to reassure other members with similar experiences that they are not alone and these events do happen. Though, once I became elligible to write my own threads, my motivation to write about this topic had dwindled. I had learned that the skeptics on this site could be cut throat and I didn't want my post ruined by people who were going to tell me to "try some meds" or "go see a doctor". FYI to those that will say this: Don't waste your time because you will be ignored and your day will come! A skeptic turned believer (aka my boyfriend of 3 years) is actually the reason I changed my mind about creating this post, but more on that later. Let's begin......

My first experience with the paranormal happened at my current residence. This is important to note because I have lived here on and off since 1996 and I truly believe something resides here. The first instance was not monumental, it just scared the living crap out of me. I was 9 years old and had one of those old school mini, multicolored disco lights that I kept in my room. One night, while I was home alone, laying in my mom's room and watching TV, I saw the lights from the disco ball turn on and flash across the hallway for maybe 10 secs. I was too scared to get out of the bed that night so I fell asleep in my mom's and chalked it up to mechanical malfunction. Interestingly enough, the next day I discovered that the disco lamp was not even plugged into the outlet, so how could I have seen the lights in the hallway?

Fast forward to a few years later and I now have a step brother and step sister. My step sister and I begged and begged our parents for a ouija board one year for Christmas, and I believe I will regret that wish forever. We used it a few times, but an incident occured that would make us never touch the thing again. All four of us (I also have a biological sister) were sitting on my mom's bed asking the board questions and we got into an argument about if the eye was moving on it's own or if it was one of us. So, to settle the matter, we decided that my sister and I would ask the board who my step sister had a crush on at the time and she would whisper the answer to my step brother. We decided on this question because they both lived in N.C. and went to different schools, so there was no way my sister and I could even guess the name of her secret crush. BEN was the answer, and I could tell by the look on my step brother's face that Ben was the name that she had just whispered to in his ear. Excited, we asked the entity for a sign. The phone rang right after the question was asked and when I picked up there was nothing but static. Needless to say, we immediately put the board up and never played with it again.

Then came the nightly sleep paralysis. It doesn't happen much anymore, but from the ages of 13 - 17, it happened almost every night. The first time it happened was frightening to say the least, but I eventually got used to the experience. The only time after the first couple of experiences that I became scared was when I woke up in this paralyzed state and felt myself being dragged down the bed. I remember thinking, "this can't be happening, this can't be happening", while I slid down the bed, but it surely was happening. When I became unparalyzed, there I was laying sideways at the bottom of the bed.

At age 16, I was fortunate enough to go on a cruise to Alaska with my grandparents and older cousin. We stayed in a room that had one bed and a fold out couch, where my cousin and I slept. When the couch folded out, there was a table that stood right at the edge of the bed. One night I was awakened by my cousin giggling hysterically in her sleep. When I opened my eyes, there was a girl with long dark hair and a white dress, standing on that table. She was bent over or crouched down so that her face was inches from my own. I shut my eyes and didn't open them again until the next morning. I tried researching the room and the boat when I got home, but found nothing. Now, I don't think this girl had anything to do with the boat, but somehting to do with me.

My next two experiences happened when I was 18 and my ex boyfriend was present for both. The first incident began when our neighbor asked us to babysit her 3 yr. old son. We said sure and one of the things she asked us to do was to turn the radio onto a specific station when we put him to bed. It is a local station that plays anything non offensive, really designed for a work environment. Anyways, we had put the boy to bed and were out on the back porch with the baby moniter, when the music playing in the boy's room changed from light hearted hits to gothic, church like music. Then, the music lowered and a demonic voice started speaking over the radio, and the music would start again. This went on for about 15 min. so, super freaked out, I went to the door and checked to see what was actually playing on the radio. It was the same creepy music we were hearing over the baby moniter. I went back to the living room to tell my ex and the boy woke up screaming. I ran to his room, turned on the lights and picked him up. I know he was scared because of how tight he held onto me, and he then pointed at his closet, looked at me and said "people". I will never forget that night or that mysterious song.

The next experience we had together was out on the beach in Litchfield, S.C. My ex's younger cousin was also there. It was around 11 PM and we were hanging out on one of the walkways, when we all saw what looked like the sun, except for red, come up out of the ocean slowly. Then, at a certain altitude, it zoomed up into the sky.

The last experience I have for you is not mine, but my current boyfriend's. He was a skeptic until last Friday. I was wrapping Christmas presents in the dining room when I heard him open the pantry door, pause, and say,"Oh my God." When I looked over at him, he was pale white with a stunned look on his face. I asked him what happened and according to him he saw a girl with long black hair, wearing a dress, standing in the pantry. He also said she was hunched over, looking up at him, with her hands out.

So those are my experiences and it feels great to get them all off my chest, at one time. I know that these are all kind of random, so I'm wondering if anyone here has any insight into why these things happen to me and those around me and if they are connected in any way. Also, please feel free to share any similar experiences. Thanks for listening ATS

Truely amazing experiences. Thank you for sharing them with us. The story about the baby was chilling; its always the thing in the closet (or pantry) which give me the creeps.

Enjoy your time here at ATS. You can learn a lot...even from the skeptics. lol

That was definitely sleep paralysis. I've experienced it falling asleep, in a dream, and from waking up in the middle of the night. The voice is interesting to me, what did it sound like?

I've had a bad experience with a Ouija board myself. I don't think anyone's ever had a good experience with one. I think you at some point should contact a medium or something and see what they have to say if you can. If this stuff is scaring you or especially if you feel threatened by it, then you may want to contact a priest or shaman to try and cleanse you or your house of whatever this is. It doesn't sound good to me but you should go by how you feel. I would strongly suggest never using a Ouija board again. I also want to mention that I'm not religious and don't think all spirits are bad but I know how dangerous Ouija boards can be and if something became attached to you from that, it's not likely to be good.

thanks for sharing, i was interested in the part with the girl with dark hair and white dress. my girlfriend was renting a flat right next to an old school saw a girl in her room one night just crouched in the corner where her laundry basket ushally sits, this girl she described as having very greasy dark hair but very long also and she had a white gown on almost like an old fashined dress. a 2nd time she saw this girl was when she felt a hand touching her leg while sleeping and she looked up and saw her sat at the bottom of her bed, but apart from being totall freaked out she went back to sleep, whitch instead of running screaming is what i hear many people do wen they see strange things at night. also her flat mate woke to the bathroom taps gushing full blast afew times while sleeping. weird.

The "disco light" brings to mind a similar experience. Several friends and I were sitting in the living room of our rental house when colored lights spilled out of the adjoining kitchen. They were moving and gave the impression of a fire having broken out but with weird colors (blue, green and purple along with the usual fire colors).

We all dashed to the doorway and I saw what looked like a multicolored "football" of light rotating on a "pillar" of light in the middle of the room about four feet tall. This odd thingy slowly sank into the floor leaving the kitchen dark and the witnesses silent.

There were numerous other anomalous things that happened there and when I moved out I learned that the previous owner had committed suicide in the house.

For what it's worth.

Get some meds.

Kidding. Kidding.

I have experienced sleep paralysis a few times, and I have heard voices....I truly believe that the human mind can manifest some really strange stuff. I believe in God and the devil, as well, though I believe that nine times out of ten our own minds create this type of thing.

Parts of your story seem straight out of the silly Paranormal Activity movies.

Who knows. I believe in evil, and if you mess with it, I guess you could get caught in something. My suggestion would be to pray, look into real biblical Christianity, and go from there.

Yes, I think you're right. Visiting a medium has been on my mind lately, but I live in a town where mediums aren't considered very popular. Also, I don't know how I would go about finding one. Any suggestions?

And do you mind sharing any more about your Ouiji experience? If not, that's fine. Just wondering...

*shudders* That's something I never want to experience during sleep paralysis. Good luck to you and I hope you and I find the peace of mind we're searching for. No one can really understand until it happens to them.

Wow, this gives me the chills because I did not say anything about the girl's hair being greasy or abnormally long, but you hit the nail on the head. Also, the old fashioned white dress almost looked like a night gown to me and it was definitely old fashioned.

I completely understand her reasoning behind just staying in the room and going back to sleep. When this girl appeared to me, I was too frightened to do anything but stay in the bed and shut my eyes. Does your girlfriend have any idea what started the sightings?

Thank you for sharing your experience and even though it is different than mine, it is still very interesting. I have never experienced anything like this, unless what I saw was the same thing and I used my disco light as an excuse for the experience. The lights were flashing across the wall, just as you said. I didn't get out of bed to check the hall out because I was so young at the time. Now I wonder what I would have seen if I had.

Haha geeze, I said no med talk!
jk

I also believe in God, the Creator, etc., and I have a hard time believing there are souls trapped on earth, so part of me believes these things are caused by the fallen angels or demons. That's just my 2 cents, though. I have a very close relationship with the almighty now (Something I didn't have when I experienced these things personally, I will admit) and whenever I am scared at night I pray. I have a huge fear of the dark since these things happened to me and praying is the only thing that can get me to sleep some nights.

I believe the human mind is a very powerful thing, too. For many years, I thought that there was the possibility that all of my experiences were the beginning stages of insanity. That was until I had other witnesses seeing and hearing the same things I was experiencing. I knew then that I wasn't crazy at all, but there was definitely a period of time when I questioned my own mind constantly.

First post ever, so nice to meet you all. I actually made an account because of this post. I personally have experienced the same type of sleep paralysis. I could not move, not even an inch when I became aware, I felt my mattress flex under the weight of something, I then felt something wrap around my lower calf, just above the ankle and it began pulling me from my bed. Now I could not realistically attempt to describe what it was that grabbed me, nor what it grabbed me with because on the one hand I never saw it, and as far as whatever was used to grab me I was so caught up in the terror of what was happening that even if it were strictly conforming to a "hand" shape I did not notice.

Setup:
So a little background on me, I am 6'3 and sit around 220 lbs. this is to make it understandable that it would take a fair bit of strength to one armed pull me. Additionally I am in the military, have been since 2008, a side effect of being in the military is that I became an alert sleeper, odd noises, movement, smells all have been known to wake me up as if I hadn't been asleep. I live in the barracks, alone in a room, with conjoined bathroom leading to my neighbor's room, I lived next to one person for 2 years, so he knew me pretty damn well.

NO HISTORY OF ANY SLEEP IRREGULARITIES (just a note)

Event:
It was early 2012, a Sunday night. I was getting ready for bed around 10 and trading stories from the weekend with my neighbor, finished that and told him I would see him tomorrow. Went in my room, lights out, in bed and I start dozing off. Next thing you know I am wide eyed, and frozen. That when the bed flexed, and something grabbed me. Whatever it was it pulled me easily down my bed, and has my leg over the edge and was still pulling. I suddenly regained my motor skills and voice, so I yelled and swung and tried to grab it, but could not reach it, when I tried it pulled me and caused me to fall back. So instead I grabbed at the night stand anything I could really trying to resist. I started kicking with my free leg at it. Now during this time I have made quite a commotion, or so I think, I mean I have been yelling for what seemed like an eternity, but no one is coming to check on me. I lose my grip on the night stand. It crashes into the wall. This for some reason brings my neighbor over who finds me terrified and wild eyed sweating like I just came out a sauna. My room was trashed, the blankets and sheets were all scrunched in the corner I had been pulled to, in fact much to my surprise the whole bed had been pulled away from the wall. I had a faint circular bruise on my leg, and that was it. I told him the story, feeling completely mad as I listened to it come out of my mouth.

Sorry I sort of hijacked you a little, but at least you are not alone in things trying to steal you away in the night.

No worries, I am actually really glad that you decided to make an account and share your story. But....Wow, that is a powerful experience that you had. I never felt anything grab me, but that could be due to the fact that when I have sleep paralysis I go completely numb (besides a tingling sensation all over my body). I wish I had answers, but I don't. One thing I can suggest is asking if there has been anyone in your family that had an ability that seemed "supernatural". Shortly after I wrote this thread, I met a women (randomly while apartment shopping???) who informed me that I was a "sensitive"/medium. After talking to my parents about everything, I found that both sides of my family have their own unique gifts that show up from time to time. My mother's side is intuitive and my father's is sensitive. Anyways, the woman explained to me that sensitive people are more likely to attract the paranormal because they have a connection to the other side. Also, when they are not aware or cannot control this ability, it is easy for "bad spirits" to take advantage of them. I'm still skeptical of all of this, but I have taken steps to begin working with a local, well known medium to help me. I have to wait until the end of Feb., but I will keep ATS updated if anything comes from this. Good luck to you and I hope whatever tried to harm you does not return. I know that terror and would not wish it upon anyone.

Also, I'm not sure if you believe in God (I use that term in the loosest way possible), but I have found that since I became a spiritual person my paranormal experiences have reduced.

I have to ask this and this is no joke why the hell does every little girl ghost seem to have black hair and pale skin like the grudge or the ring? I know the one my stepdaughter saw had light hair and light fair skin but most everybody says their little girl ghosts look like the grudge, just to be very clear it is NOT common to have black hair and fair or white complexion it's about 30% of the population, so I am not getting this.

I'm not sure. Also, besides myself, my boyfriend, and the girl mentioned in a reply to this thread, I have never come across anyone else who saw something similar to what I did. If you have found stories about a similar ghost/entity, I would be really interested in reading them. Thanks for replying and sorry I can't answer your question, wish I knew too.
