Im sure the demos are against the Government for changing the Spanish constitution without the people having any say despite media reporting it because of cuts, last year it was because of cuts but it is now all about the constitution.

These people lived under Franco not to long ago and know what they have to lose.

I wonder... is it possible that the OP was transplanted from New York to Spain? Maybe, he moved there from America. I know that I have personally lived in a few different countries and posted as such, though I am an American.

Certainly was a good story. Not sure how much of it is true though, seeing everyone on the internet likes to pretend that they are badass.

What concerns me is the replies. If the story is true, the OP did a pretty good thing. He stood up to idiots trying to undermine a small and independent business. But your ideas that you should pull out a gun and start shooting, or the comments that it was a good thing the US went to kill communists all over the world - and millions of civilians, destroying whole countries (even though they weren't usually communist), in Vietnam, Guatemala, Honduras, Cambodia etc - really reveals the absolute idiocy and perverted nature of American society.

You take a positive story, and turn it around suggesting that people should have been shot and that America committing genocide all over the third world to secure strategic interests, the interests of wealthy corporations and raw materials, is a good thing. You are idiots. Congratulations

Unions really have no use in todays society.
there was a time when they were useful, but
as the op has shown, they have gone down hill
and are nothing more than a organized mob.

How could anyone be proud to be a part of anything
thats main goal is to go around and deface property
by stickers and such.

Im sure their goals are much much deeper, but just on
the surface, it is something i would relate to as a group

There are many more mature way's to get one's message
out. If they have to resort to bullying and defacing others

No, he is not Spanish by birth. He was an American that moved to Spain. I am unsure if he changed nationalities. I know this because I remember the OP telling his story about life as a waiter, saving for a restaurant, and everyday things like that on a thread a few months back.

Are you a xenophobe or something? God forbid if foreigners come to Spain. God knows Spanish people have went to other parts of the world.....to put it mildly......seek their fortune. Why don't you give the man a break.

While there are some very questionable unions out there with ties to the underworld, unethical approach to the way they handle things and can be violent and thuggish.

There are a few unions that do actiually care about the people who work in their industries (though far and few between).

Remember too, for the most part, if it were not for a union of one sort or another, you would still be working 15hr shifts, seven days a week, with no meal/rest breaks and for 1/4 of what you earn now.

Unions do have their place and without them, the world would quickly slip back into the victorian age in terms of employer/employee relations.
