Hi at first I thought maybe it was open windows shaking my doors and windows, it does get pretty windy where i live in california.

then it happened two more times.

I went onto facebook and there are FIVE posts about this from friends i have from up to 30 miles away.

I live in the central coast of california, if you go to USGS you will see NO registered earthquake activity.

My only other thought was a sonic boom, but how could one happen 3 times(one of my friends reported 5 of these)

they were short and lasted a few seconds, almost explosion like

any ideas?

Could be a large number of natural events.

I wouldn't worry too much about it.

Pretty sure a sonic boom is relative to the observers position on the ground, so a plane lets off quite a few.......could be wrong.

Could be some low flying jets. I dunno.

SoCal here. We didn't get any action. USGS is occasionally delayed, aren't they? Maybe it WAS an explosion -- car backfiring? movie shoot?

The comments on the local news facebook page indicated the shaking has been felt from Goleta to Morro Bay! Most people don't think it was an earthquake but something from above.

I've been up all night -- haven't felt a thing, so it must be localized. I'm near LA if that gives you a sense for distance. Fingers crossed they weren't foreshocks! Mostly because if "the big one" hits today/tomorrow the 2012ers will go nuts. Can't let 'em have the validation

I grew up in Pismo, but now live far away...we all know the difference between sonic booms and the earth shaking. USGS is telling KSBY news that there were no quakes and the noises/ground shaking were just sonic signals! Yeah right! Everyone I know says that it sounded and felt like earthquakes.....

i felt it too here in Solvang, thought it was an earthquake but didn't see any of the blinds moving like they usually do in an earthquake. definately felt and heard the booms a couple times

Can we entertain the idea of it being HAARP?

I don't know enough about HAARP to say.

I was listening to the Sheriffs/Fire scanner at the time and they were talking about it.

Maybe the secret craft that was launched this past Tuesday was coming in to Cali this morning. The weather back East is not ideal for briging it back here so Cali may be an alternate return site.

I has been landing at Vandenburg in CA.

Re-entry can cause multiple sonic booms.

USGS tells KSBY News "sonic signals" shook the Central Coast

Vandenberg Air Force base representatives told KSBY News the base is unaware of what caused the events

So if it wasn't an earthquake, and it wasn't a military aircraft?

living out here these "sonic booms" or "signals" i don't ever recall Atleast FOUR in such a short period of time here

to give reference solvang is a good 35 miles from the coastline, where the USGS is alleging this happened over water, is it normal to feel it that far away? a "sonic signal"
