Common problems with Mayan Calendar

First of all, I'd like to say we know very little about Mayans, in fact, we know very little about every Mesoamerican civilization. At least 90% of their secrets are hidden within the vast jungles and nearly invisible ruins. And they just find another calendar, which has dates past 21.12.

First problem is that we do not know the start date exactly, and without start date, its impossible to predict other dates. Academically most accepted date is 6th of September 3114 BC, which was interpreted by Goodman, Martinez and Thompson (GMT).

Its a mystery why they set 0.0.0.0.0 point there.

Last time when bak'tun changed to 12.0.0.0.0 was in September 18th 1618. Absolutely nothing significant happened that day. Now on 21st bak'tun changes to 13.0.0.0.0, and I tell you, nothing is going to happen. Humans have seen bak'tuns changing multiple times in a history, and always it has been just normal day. This date is much feared, because 13 is holy number to Mayans.

Mayan long count calendar is based on Venus, the start date is so called "birth of Venus". This is why 13 is holy number: For every 8 years, Venus makes 13 orbits.

Mayans never said that end of bak'tun, comes the doomsday. Bak'tuns were way to calculate consciousness, it wasn't ever really a calendar.

Interesting, I guess there's no way to better prove the correct starting date other than live through the ending date.

Let's assume that the long count lasts 5000 (200-+ years) anyway, which most researchers have agreed to. Couldn't civilization restarted some 5000 years ago? How much do we know of what happened 5000+ years ago? We lack the knowledge of what happened prior to that. Maybe they figured there's a cycle of something that is related to human civilization, that has a beginning and an end and we still cannot figure it out? The low point in the current times in our civilization must have mean something.

Its hard to pin point the start date and after seeing all the supposed start dates, it makes it pretty hard to believe that 21st of this month is the end date. One thing I do find interesting is that the start date coincides pretty closely to the Egyptian dawn of civilisation which was 9 years earlier, 3123b.c. I get the feeling something happened back then but the question is what... I'm leaning towards some sort of cycle but that is only a guess.

Yes, Nothing at all to do with doomsday. People assume that it's counting down to the end when really it's counting down to their return.......possibly.

Or, it is merely a celebration to bring in the new calendar.

Or maybe its the apocalypse otherwise known as "unveiling" of the ancient mysteries.

Maybe it is time that knowledge, and truth will be returned to man. Imagine if there was something that could send out a frequency that took all of humanity into an altered state of consciousness. A state of pure intuition, pure knowledge, and suddenly we remember our purpose, our origins.

The ancients mysteries all talk about these things. The freemasons and the rosicrucians, are both trying to bring about a golden age, using consciousness evolution. With all the mathematics seemingly adding up perfectly into the 25920 year cycle of the precession, along with the end date of the mayan calendar, it would appear that every major civilization and religion, are pointing at december 21 2012. Not just the mayans, not by a long shot.

Dec 21 is shrouded in mystery, and I believe we will see some kind of change on that day. I may be wrong, but if I am, there thousands, if not millions of people wrong, standing right beside me.

I don't get where folks call it a prophecy when it was a calculation. We will complete the first go around of the 12 ages and we will start over again or start of the 13th age.Aquarius age. And the long count date for Dec 21is drum roll please, 13.0.0.0.0. Alcyon our Parent Sun to our Sun completes its first cycle, 26 million years in the making.. How ironic, all on the same day.. And then for s h i t s and giggles they all line up with the Galactic Center.

Your saying the same thing that we have all been hearing for the better part of at least 3 years, even the people who "believe" its the end have heard this countless times, its a mute point by now...they have had it hammered into their heads by now and will come the 22nd and beyond... but people just like them a good apocalypse

hhmm....seems to me that an excuse is being promulgated to say that the 21st wasn't the correct date, to either keep the fear alive, save reputations, and/or keep the money rolling in.

I know one thing.. If nothing happens all the 2012ers who prayed off people and their money are pretty much going to disappear and anyone who trusts their BS afterwards deserves a personal apocalypse for being so stupid.

According to this Mayan Elder, the calender ending is just that, the end of one calender. What will happen when it ends? Another calender cycle.

I think the most interesting thing brought up is right around 5:00 and onward.

But the question is, is there really Mayan elders, most of writings are gone, and do these "new" mayans understand the "ancient" mayan language? Mayans were already at brink of their destruction when first Europeans arrived. Their cities were abandoned and spanish church destroyed most of the ancient writings. Only 3 writings survived, so called Madrid Codex, Dresden Codex and Paris Codex.
