Well, my alarm will be set for 7:15am eastern time.
I hope that I don't end up using it.
I hope (we are talking fantasy here so I'll say hope) it is a wall of sirens and flashes that awaken me.
I would grab my wife and pack a bag of essentials and head out the door, leaving it open behind me so at least the cats will have a chance.
Living in Brooklyn, just over the Williamsburg bridge from Manhattan, I have a long hike to the marinas out by JFK and the beach. It would probably
take me 3 hours with no obstacles but at this time, approximately 6:30 am, with people running around everywhere, breaking sht and going nuts, it will
take a lot longer.
I anticipate arriving at a marina by noon at the latest. My plan hinges on the fact that there will be a sail boat still at dock, somewhere. Here is
where it gets crazy. We're going to steal the boat. Hopefully I will have picked up friends or made new friends along the way, and we will just
steal the boat.
We will then take off in any direction that we can safely navigate. Note: this plan hinges on there not being a tsunami on the way, with no major
earthquakes off shore as of yet.
The goal at this point would be to stay undetected by military, police, etc and find someplace down south to land. Like Belize or something. Take if
from there.
If there is a tsunami on the way then I'm pretty much fd. I will however, try my best to get inland, deeper into brooklyn and possibly further on in
to long island.
I figure, either way, being on foot would be the safest way to travel.
I keep seeing this vision of a 6 lane freeway completely filled with parked cars because they eventually ran out of gas. Everything will just shut
down and you will find yourself in a "funnel" slowly walking an following, not even knowing where you are going, only to wind up inside a giant
facility standing in line to register your name, etc…
But I will be on a boat, sailing to caribbean.
