Thanks and you can see Laura Mersini-Houghton talking about this here on Through the Wormhole. She starts speaking at 31:40.

I think a small patch of space-time, maybe close to Planck's length, gets overwhelmed with energy and contains all the information from that mother
universe. This might occur at small scales as virtual particles pop into and out of existence. This is just speculation on my part.
Then this small patch of space-time collapses and expands. this is where quantum gravity kicks in. Quantum Gravity gives this small patch of space
time a push. So there's this chord that connects us to our mother universe but only quantum gravity can pass through this chord. The reason space has
a boundary is because our universe begins where the push from quantum gravity ends.
So you can look at this as Cosmic Evolution. These tiny patches of space-time are like embryos. They contain all the DNA or information from the
mother universe and they grow into mothers and fathers themselves who give birth to their own baby universes.
Maybe one day we'll discover gravitons or gravity waves and maybe communicate with our Mother universe and our Sister and Brother universes.
Technology might also allow us to detect where these baby universes were born.
