I don't see why the assault weapons ban, the institution of a psychological background checks, and the elimination of gun show loopholes should not be considered. I know it wouldn't have stopped the shooter in this situation, but a psychological background check and the elimination of loopholes would have stopped or flagged Klebold, Harris, and Holmes.

Gun guys can still have their guns, but what's the need for a citizen to arm themselves with military grade weapons when most of them are not trained to handle such weapons.

I absolutely agree. We don't know much yet beyond his name, what guns he used, and how many were killed.

I currently work for a large newspaper in NYC and I have to say that the media dropped the ball on this one. There has been a lot of erroneous reporting and little fact checking. Nearly every major news outlet decided that getting the information first was more important than getting it right.

I have a lot of questions about what happened, but from the sources and people I've spoken to (I'm a fact checker), the story seems to be shaping up to be a crazy kid got really pissed off at the teachers for some reason, was set on killing them from the moment he was removed from the incident, killed his mom after she tried to stop him from getting the three guns registered in her name, and finally forced himself inside the school.

Have you seen pictures of Victoria Soto? She's a very pretty 27 year old. As far as we know, Lanza could have been at the school stalking her and staff could have intervened the previous day.

Still waiting to hear what the other person involved in the altercation has to say.

Any Journalist worth their salt could get the pubic police report immediately- Which leads me to believe Police were NOT called over the alleged altercation- leaving only 1 witness to the "alleged" altercation living of the FIVE people involved.

Your telling me the Police were not called? And yet four staff were involved? Even if it were VERBAL the Police would have been called . And as of yet we see no record of such call or a report and we can assume the media has tried this route to "break" a story.

Why does anyone need an assault rifle in their home? Plus, it's astonishing how easy guns can be purchased from private dealers at gun shows.

Peter Lanza is VP of taxes for GE Energy Financial Services. I wouldn't be surprised if he was helping DOJ with The LIBOR investigation. If true, there is no way a rational person could ignore the coincidence between this and the Batman shooting.

My friend is listening to a police scanner, she is reporting that they are pursuing a van down White St in Danbury via helicopter.

Been watching it 'live' and they sent the live feed to a news reporter at the neighbor where the kid lived. The reporter states, "The neighbors said that around 9:15am they saw police surrounding the 'kids' house and taping off the neighborhood and telling everyone to evacuate". Did you catch that? 9:15am!

I had read elsewhere that they were saying Adam drove to NJ to kill someone the day before.
What if he were lured there?
What if even still he was not on the scene of this school shooting but was already dead?

Oh, but that's right, Pete Williams, of all people has uncovered the story of a kerfuffle that he had with 4 members of the faculty 3 of whom is now dead. A fourth is bringing an allegation that whooops, it looks like the other 4 people who could substantiate this are all deceased.

People following the story yesterday were seeing these 'erroneous' reports by the media attributed to law enforcement officials.

How the father's home being taped off by police and the media being told that he was dead inside, and the taping off of the home occurring before the school shooting happened is a kind of hairy situation for the media to beg off of.

Deny ignorance. It's easy to make up conspiracy theories in the basement. In the real world when you're talking about an incident like this involving hundreds of people, many of them children, multiple law enforcement agencies, news hungry media and an entire town full of rumors of course there will be confusion and misinformation about what is going on.

Something else, a clip on CNN (of todays press conference) had some FBI guy (cannot remember who) saying " We didnt know it was Adam until we searched the brothers home and found him there." YET we know the brother actually posted in facebook and was heading towards the scene on a Bus.

So the FBI guy flat out lied at a press conference- OR the brother was never "at work" and posting "I didnt do it" on his facebook page.

Another inconsistency.

Reports are saying that father is not dead and is alive and well. He spoke with the officers and Ryan can't be dead because he also spoke to the officers.

Just because people got their reports wrong does not mean their retractions were coverups.

In pertaining to the roping off of the Dad's house, I've yet to see a single credible report talking about that. Color me a corporate shill, but there's a reason not a single news source outside of the pseudo-media is not reporting it.

Hey, I was drawing the same conclusion myself about this.

Victoria Soto? You don't say? I was just doing some background on her also.
I found a picture posted that was alleged to be her but it was taken on January 25 of last year of her in some sunny warm sleeveless clime. How do I know that was the same VC?

If a report was made and now it's part of a larger investigation, are the police capable of withholding it from the media? Just wondering.

I would love to know what became of the interview with Lanza's supposed girlfriend too, but we're not hearing anything on that right now either. No one has even released her name.

Not to worry. If any kind of weapon is made illegal, the CIA will make sure to sell them to those people who don't want to follow the law.

While there many many reasons she could own such a weapon, one of those is hunting because it is illegal to hunt any game with that caliber in that state.

(from my understanding of the local laws) so under current laws, the fact that she has it is irrelevant to the event at hand. her purchasing it or owning it didnt cause the problem. her not securing it properly from some mental case, could be the problem though. so the discussion in the thread about why she should or would have the ar-15 is just pointless and dumb. unless she bought it illegally in a back alley somewhere, our time could be spent finding other info out. like maybe finding out how it was secured in the house, why/how the shooter had access to it.

oh my goodness, now mom is a prepper so the feds can have more ammunition in their fight to disarm us. They have already put preppers on a watch list. Maybe they got to the kid .... mkultra and what not.
I thought yesterday someone posted that assault weapons were banned in this area and purchase of guns in other states illegal, soooo how did mom get her assault weapon? And if mom was on a watch list likely she was being.... watched.

That is an interesting thought but I think no. It would ALREADY have been a public record, would already have went out over the scanner and local journalists would ALREADY know about it for the "Crime/Blotter" news section in the local paper...

Especially in such a small town- So they are already telling us there WAS an altercation (which if it was being investigated- Why tell us that?) and it was already Public info-

So idk... I am not a lawyer and have no idea how they would handle this- but I DO know that the local Journalist would already have known about this and would have revisited the story after the attack- Immediatley- I would think...

There was no body found in a Hoboken house.

Nancy Lanza's body was found inside her home where Adam lived. There was no crime scene in Hoboken beyond the brother's apartment.

Israel learned to put guns in the schools when a bus full of school children were murdered. They realized back in the 1970s that arming the schools was the solution, not restricting the right of self defense.
