It will be devastating to the Christians and the other religious people, but we atheist would handle it just fine.
i would be pretty embarrassed for mankind if some christian or Muslims asked the aliens about god, or tried to convert them into their faith.

The closest I have ever been to what I am sure is Alien encounter/ interference happened more than a decade ago. I lived in a terrace house and there was a crazy old man living next door. He was a walking disaster and started to go into our garden and dig up stuff or knock things down. I caught him doing this one day and went out into the back garden to see if there was any stopping him. Upon seeing me he made a bid for freedom and began climbing over the wall! Now, a word about our back garden, it wasn't much of one and had a brick 'bath' - not really but some kind of enclosure that was about half the size of a bath and was full up with water, stones, mud and all sorts.
As the old guy climbed over the wall he was really close to falling in this and I kept very close to him - like 2 foot away - to make this encounter very scary for him. Not that I'm scary but my Landlord certainly was. Now nobody else saw this and the old guy could barely talk to his old wife never mind anyone else so it was between me and him.
A few days later I went into the back garden and the brick enclosure was completely empty - dry and dust free! No debris or water splash around it either and all I could think was how Alien it felt - and exactly who/what could have done it.

If I saw one it would definately scare me ,in reality, unless I knew its intentions...Im sure most people would freak if they woke up and saw one standing at the foot of their bed.

Surely a coward would fear that which he is not familiar with! If facing an alien entity, I personally would advance towards it, and attempt to restrain it, not fearing for my own safety.

I really don't think they care. I never tried to communicate with frogs before abducting them for a science class dissection. My communication to the frog and his frog people was never relevant to my purposes, and likewise, I doubt that communication with the human race is at all relevant to any alien intelligence that comes by. At most, we're a passing interest while they peek out their porthole crapper window in their flying saucer.

They would most certainly study us, as we study "new" species previously unknown to us. And surely they would, having no knowledge of our intelligence, at-least attempt to communicate?

mine vanished into thin air when my heart raced and breathing became laboured , my first reaction was laughter as its head was unrealistically big for its body , saw chamelion green and teracotta red brown, eyes similar to sharks , cross between matt black and metallic black and carbon fibre , eyes defo at 45 degree angles, it seemed to convey message of ... we are all the same ?????? height roughly 2 and half feet, had vision ??? of being on a table then turning my head to right and seeing an american man in dark blue suit with black hair and insignia on right arm with bird or dragon with head turned to right, he said ... experiment on the bluebird ... like was asked a question and answered like questioner should know what to do already, then felt a wave come over me saying sleep now youve seen what you wanted to see , and white star wars type face with rounded oblong mouth coming towards me from pitch blackness , i pushed it away from me in its face thought i heard vocal ????

"Having no knowledge of our intelligence"?
Dude, they are in deep with our military. They have been watching our TV shows since the start, etc, etc... need I go on. They have had over 50 years at the least to study us. They know everything about us.

When I was 8 they scared the heck out of me but a few days later I didn't want to go in after dark just sit out and watch for them. I have no fear left in me I was told once by a doctor he didn't know the half of it.

Then when I was 26 I crossed paths with bigfoot and felt fear again but it too passed into nothing.

A few years ago someone told me they were going to kill me if I didn't give them my wallet I said sure! They didn't understand when the police caught up to me to ask questions a few days later they wanted to know why I didn't report the attempted robbery there was nothing to really tell he didn't get what he wanted

Fear is a strange thing lack of it even stranger.

:-)Really? A bit presumptious, don't you think? Do you know me,or anyone here personally? Or do you mean the human race in general?Try to bear in mind that not everyone would be scared of something just because it looks repulsive. One would propably be safer among benevolent, kindly spiderlike-aliens than malevolent+homocidal human-like aliens, and i dont care How dropdead stunning they are.In fact,i'd expect an ET species to look bizarre at best, and i certainly would'nt be surprised if their appearance was downright grotesque. We may not exactly look like supermodels to Them,either..One can't assume to know the extent of what others may already Have seen-and been ok with.

i do not think it will be that difficult to handle at all. for me anyway...

It will be easier for those who know they exist already, than those close minded individuals who refuse to accept aliens in the first place, but those kind of people should be diminishing rapidly by now.

sure it will still be shocking/amazing to finally witness these beings first hand for anyone. even for the most hardcore alien researcher, they would be lying if they said otherwise.

now

It would not matter when aliens reveal themselves, now or in another 1000 years, the public will react in the same way. if they are waiting for some further maturity it won't happen, we will only get over an event this big until its right on our front lawn.

So if they want to avoid a mass panic, they cant so they might as well get it over with now.

unfortunately for the more sane of us, mass panic from the lesser "alien" educated public is completely unavoidable no matter how long these beings hold out (providing this is their main reason, which i doubt)

Problem with your OP: I'm not scared of spiders. Spiders are really quite very fascinating.

I jump out of airplanes. I go on month long treks into the wild 100+ miles from everyone ALONE where bugs are a food option.
I go sailing ALONE.
I live alone. Travel alone. I'm extremely self reliant and capable.

I don't ever really feel fear. Anything scary is attractive as an interest for curiosity.

Scary Alien? ooooo, where? I haves some questions. I have to submit to probing? Oh, alright. Get on with it.

If anything ever makes me all wobble legs and peeing myself with hair standing on ends, I'm going to be VERY curious and fascinated about what could possibly cause such an effect or experience.

No need to be so defensive... a lot of people are afraid of them.

People will only be fearful if one appears in your room at night. If you were to meet an alien the same way as you would meet a human (surrounded by other people in a public setting) I doubt most people would be scared.

I agree with this OP rather strongly. In fact, a few days back I had a thread typed up and ready to go detailing, in part, my long absence from the ATS boards. I had an experience, for lack of a better term, that lasted five days.

Now, don't get me wrong, I am still unsure exactly what it was. I never saw an alien...least not while I was awake, but I STRONGLY believe that's what I was dealing with. And let me tell you, just the THOUGHT of their immediate presence can literally unhinge your mind. This series of events was beyond bizarre.

In any event, I didn't publish the thread.

And to the poster speaking of living alone, sailing alone, etc, I would just say we have a lot in common, aside from the sailing. I LIVE to be in the wilderness. I hunt snakes with my bare hands.

Nothing OF THIS WORLD can ready your mind for the realization you are face-to-face with something OUT OF THIS WORLD and is vastly superior to you in every conceivable way.

I strongly suspect that if the. Greys made themselves known tomorrow, this world would descend into total anarchy within a week.
Baby steps, Smalls.

I believe the grays will be the first alien race to be introduced .

they are really trying there hardest in movies to depicted that they are friendly.

I believe that some members on ATS have seen beings from other planets in person; and some of them do not look human.

I also believe that they will not share this information; because they will not be believed.

Jeebus just seein their ship descend and fly throuh the atmosphere commin close to me almost made me freak.......
Wait till it really happens to you...fear of a near uncoquerable nature is a definite first reaction.....
I think everyone would be struck this way......
What happens later would possibly alter your emotions, but fear Fight or flight is instinctive gut reaction to the real possibility of an encounter.....

oh well

maybe the only thing destroyed would be some egos?

I think it will help to already be ahead of the curve and accept their presence. Our biggest challenge will be to not judge them superficially like we judge ourselves.

I'll bet we are genetically related to many of them if not all of them. I mean we are related to jelly fish are we not?

It's interesting to note the Starchild skull has human MtDNA yet looks just like a gray. I would be interested in the Anunnaki race and also to know where their origins were.
