And so there is another sell out to corporate interests. Add it to a long list of organic food and vitamin companies
who have become popular and profitable and then sold out to large corporations for monetary greed.
Is it any wonder the majority of the population is confused and apathetic. I hear it all the time " I don t know what to
believe". Probably a good stragedy in a war. Separate and confuse and the opposing force loses its power.
I was surprised to find the colesterol conspiracy such a big deal here on ats. I ve known about that for over ten
years. So, are there a lot of members on ATS feeling confused about organic food, and what that term means
compared to certified organic and natural food? Here s the link to the article.

I really hope I did everything right on this post. My first thread! This is one of my passions , along with survival.
I may have to start a thread in the rant section to get all the emotions on this topic out

Good first thread...

People shouldn't trust TV doctors for their medical advice anyway. Common sense should tell people that natural is healthiest for them. Pesticides, chemical fertilizers, hormones and inorganic preservatives aren't good for anyone!

I thought that was a very informative link and a great topic for a first thread or any thread. I think it is sad people do not care more about what they consume. It is really sad they can't see the manipulation of government agencies and politics and just roll over for the whims of companies like Cargill and Monsanto. We should have more backbone, be better informed and care. Excellent topic!

Next thing you'll try to tell me is that Oprah Winfrey only cares about money. Ha. such a liar.

Who would have thought that a doc who made his name on a show that caters to advertising a lifestyle and then selling you the magazine to make it happen, would advertise a lifestyle, then sell you the vitamins to make it happen.

I've almost gotten my degree from the dr phil school of psychology. I know all about things now.

But you did know Dr Oz was not a friend. He's not there to give you Dr Ozs cureall elixer of youth, he's there to make a company money.

Worse than a politician who lies to maintain votes, is a doctor who sells you a media driven agenda.

Well Dr Oz rose to fame by going against the conventional wisdom and showing people simple, natural, remedies for common problems that people had been turning to hazardous drugs and treatment for. People came to trust him and what he said because he wasn't like the doctors they were used to.

He probably was told to say those things to avoid a lawsuit by the conventional agriculture interests. Oprah got in hot water for slamming the beef industry. Nothing new, just recant your story and all the lawsuits will go away.

Most organic food has better chemistry than the commercial stuff. If you use what they tout is nutrition than I suppose they can say there is not much difference. There is a lot more to nutrition than what the government says there is. Minerals and vitamins, what a joke. That is not a thousandth of what food is. We have to adapt to foods, we cannot just grab a piece of fruit and eat it from then on. Generations are needed to properly change the foods, the first thing that gets effected is our perception. What do you expect of a country that is so full of deceit that even the leaders shuffle off the truth when they campaign. A government that deceives the people so much can't be trusted, especially with our food safety.

That's a little unfair. Both Oz and Oprah got reputations for being straight talkers and only AFTER people started paying a lot of attention to them did they attract advertisers. They both began to "capitalize" on their own fame because it is a part of the business of entertainment. It's what you do but if people don't trust you - they leave you and I think both of them have tried to keep it real. Pity Dr Oz is letting his audience down lately but his daughter is on the Chew and I think pressures both economic and concern for her make him lose a little of his Maverick side and start to play ball like they want him to. I have to give credit. Lots of people START by playing ball and that is how they make everything they earn - deceiving people from day one.

There is something fishy going on here. I would like someone to post the exact Time quotes by the Dr Oz. I have followed his stance on natural vs over processed foods for a while and i don't think he would flip flop like they are claiming. it's just not in his character.

Dr. Oz was getting to alot of people who only get their info from t.v.He was promoting natural remedies, organic
veges, smoothies for nutrition , detox, and weight loss. He was educating the masses on how the body worked
and how natural food worked with the body to discourage disease.A lot of people in the naturl and organic food
movement were watching him. This last interview with Time magazine was a complete turn around from what he
had been advocating. This stunned a lot of people, and yes it is a little strange. So far. he has not made any
statements explaining his actions. This information came to me from Natural News. The link is in my original post.
I can t link directly to the Time article, but you should be able to get it thru Natural News. If someone more
knowledgable here on ats can link it in , please do so.
It is this sudden changing from organic good to organic bad that is confusing to people who are just getting
some eye opening information . That is the betrayal. Who do you trust then?
I m sorry I couldn t respond last night to the comments. I m in Northern Canada and lost internet connection and
phone service. Snow , wind, ice ? -30 with wind chill last night

Dr.Oz is more than just a "TV doctor" but that is also a double-edged sword.

On one hand, there are people who take everything you say as gospel. You have to be very careful what you tell them.

On the other hand, Dr.Oz may not be a proponent of organic everything and it may come as a surprise to some.

Your right ,It may come as a surprise to some . Who knows what people s motives really are? He may have jusst
jumped on the rising organic movement to gain fame and money. Maybe he is just being used to confuse people
and discredit organics. Can t trust anything in mainstream media
I t s the people that lose in the long run. As usual.
Sorrry for the lags in replying . Digging out from under the snow and had to take time to make snow angels

Thank you for the positive feedback
Unfortunately, it s not so much that people don t care what their eating as
they don t know how bad it is for them and they are addicted to all the additives. When you improve your diet
your physical. mental , emotional and spiritual (not religious) health improves. It s hard to make changes when
you can t think clearly or have the physical energy. Just have to start adding a little good into what you eat and
slowly and consistently keep adding more. Not so overwhelming that way. Don t have to be extreme like some
of us
I ve been raw vegan for 71/2 years .One day whole cooked foods, the next 100% raw. What a ride it s

Just ran across your thread, and I did not know that Dr. Oz had changed his mind regarding organic food. He influences many people, and many times when I am in the natural food store, people come in and ask for things that he recommended. Sometimes, they do not even know what the products are, they just know that Dr. Oz thinks they are good.

This is why there is so much bad press regarding organic food.
From your source article:

Consumer demand for organics is rising steadily. Last year, organic foods accounted for $31.4 billion in sales, according to a recent Obama administration report. Compare that with just $3.6 billion in 1997, and it makes sense that multinational junk food companies, like Pepsi, General Mills, Coca-Cola and others, are buying up organic brands.

Link

Consumers are deciding that they like organic food, and profits are falling for the traditional food manufactures. As long as this continues, expect more bad press.

Good first thread!

The sad thing is that most foods used to be organic.

Well where I grew up anyway.
