Not Joking; Somewhat Rhetorical... Plastic Laminated PlayBoy/PlayGirl Trading cards in SHTF.

So many are ready to lock and load their weapons, have huge stores of food, mountains of ammo
Buckets of water stored up but what about the human aspect ...

This thought occurred to me as I discussed some SHTF requirements with my wife and suddenly it hit me hard.

Pr0n! Perhaps someone has already posted this elsewhere, I haven't searched. I hope this isn't violating terms

I would expect others will keep details of their dirty little minds to themselves but expand on the consideration

that plastic laminated (pocket sized) pictures from select magazines may be used as barter material.

Curious what others might think about the question: What's it worth to one that has a high yet normal desire

yet may not have the 'resource'. What value do others think these items might have while bartering.

Many in the military etc keep a picture of their sweetie; what about the ones that don't have a sweetie?

Perhaps creating a large collection of HeMan and SheRa pics could be presented as a substantial "pass"?

Opinions? Crazy? Pr0n is HUGE. Personally I don't subscribe as my wife and I are happy with each other.

I swear I was talking to somebody about this on Reddit six months ago. Anyway, in desperate times prostitution goes through the roof so porn may not be as valuable as you think. Why watch when you can play?

Really I think that the most valuable commodity will be survival related anything. I personally wouldn't waste time making laminated smut cards for trade. Accumulate more things for yourself first.

If you are just looking for something small and lightweight that you can stock as a trading commodity, how about seeds, or pills like aspirin? I honestly think that would be better.

But I can see your point about smut selling.

Mods, I hope smut is acceptable language. Was the nicest way I could think to phrase it.

The way I figure it there will be plenty left in the shops - When the crap starts to hit the fan and people make a mad dash to the supermarket for supplies - I can't really see people going straight for the porn.

Ok... so... in a SHTF scenario yer worried about porn... not that you subscribe it or anything, but you're worried and interested in post-apocalyptic porn.

I call that a new trend. We got all kinds of "philias" out there BUT... apocalyptophilia is the shizz!

Now if I were you, I wouldnt worry about post apocalyptic porn since you'll be able to get all the "real-action" really easy in such scenario...

Altho, if you really want to thrive in a SHTF scenario, prostitution and slavery will be THE stable business - as always since the beginning... so plan for those. Drop the porn.

And you dont have to excuse yourself with "I dont watch porn because me and my wife are yadda yadda", we dont judge... whatever floats your boat mate.

So remember... stay off the porn - invest in prostitution and slavery (or human trafficking ... kind of a "2 birds with one stone" thing)

I think those will be next in line after food/shelter/water.

Will probably be worth a good amount years after a SHTF scenario.

Haha! Like another poster said, there will be plenty of women open to the idea of sacrificing their bodies for food.

At least the laminated porn cards will be good fuel for the dumpster fires! Just don't breath the smoke!

I think you've had a great idea and there'd definitely be a market for porn in SHTF new world. Humans have been creating porn with every new technology (coins, paper, internet, statues) and they've always been marketable.

Plus if people are all zombie-looking and high on the joys of body odour, such cards might have increasing value.

I hope that members posting in this thread stay focused on the 'porn as barter' idea and don't go getting tangled up in T&C collisions.

In the immediate aftermath of the S being flung, it will be more about immediate needs.

I do see value as things started to calm down and people started getting some stability back to whatever type of society would be implemented during the rebuilding. Erotica has always been desired.

Personally, I was enthusiastic at first thought...

I envisioned 3-4 months after major 'catastrophe' (ie Major earthquake devastates 3-4 nuke plants)
hundreds or thousands of square miles of interior US states were inaccessible.

Check points; FEMA camps; Military style everywhere...

You travel to a check point or perhaps run across some survivors in a rural setting...

Confrontation: They demand food or ID to pass...

You pull out magical plastic laminated cards of naked (insert sexual preference) cards...

Do you PASS or FAIL. =)

BTW: Consider the enemies position or lack of position.

All great insights that others have provided. FO3 is a game... Phantasy Land, so quatloos don't qualify as tangible replies but they are humorous all the same.

already planning the first post-apocalypse strip club / bordello / bar / casino / trading post / medical clinic .... one stop shopping neh .. cant see much use in trading cards when lots of the real thing running around .. meh am old will probably already be a ghost by the time tshtf ...

I like the laminated card idea too, if you're talking something for a survival type situation.

Protip: They sell protective plastic cases for comic book collectors and stuff, large enough to fit a small to medium sized magazine into.

Not sure if they still have them, but they used to have actual adult trading cards with nude girls on them. I used to collect them when I was a kid. And by kid, er... I mean "young adult" of course.

You could include small packets of lube and a moist towelette for the big spenders.
