Does this mean that in 40 years there will be few men on the planet that have any swimmers at all? 30% decrease in 17 years is astounding! Why isn't anyone making some more effort toward developing better male fertility drugs or some diet/therapy to counteract this?

At this rate the sperm bank will run dry in like some 50-60 years. Will they end up milking fertile male humans like in the movie "A Boy and his Dog"?

A comprehensive study into the reproductive health of 26,600 men found sperm concentration has decreased by a third since the 1990s.
The findings are so significant experts have warned action must now be taken to avoid significant fertility problems and the average family size decreasing.

Straight up,(no pun intended) There is no way this is accidental. Something has changed in our environment big time.
Tie this to GMO foods and watch no man buy them again.

Thoughts on the cause?

well i can tie it to gmo food, sorta

A small California biotech company, Epicyte, in 2001 announced the development of genetically engineered corn which contained a spermicide which made the semen of men who ate it sterile. At the time Epicyte had a joint venture agreement to spread its technology with DuPont and Syngenta, two of the sponsors of the Svalbard Doomsday Seed Vault. Epicyte was since acquired by a North Carolina biotech company. Astonishing to learn was that Epicyte had developed its spermicidal GMO corn with research funds from the US Department of Agriculture, the same USDA which, despite worldwide opposition, continued to finance the development of Terminator technology, now held by Monsanto.

Getting data from a a fertility clinic probably isn't a good idea. Besides that, the fact that people are really unhealthy nowadays (overeating but undernourished, eating junk, little to no exercise etc) is probably the biggest factor. Not to mention porn has made it so men probably masturbate a lot more than they would a few decades back.

It's obvious no one even read the article. This only applies to FRANCE and FRENCH men. Not men in Europe, or America, or the West, or worldwide. France, that's it.

Surprised nobody mentioned environmental exposure to synthetic estrogen mimics like Bisphenol-A. Widely used in food containers, both the obviously plastic and as a lining in cans.

We've been using this stuff blithely for decades.

This ^

I think this is definitely contributing. Think about how many babies drink milk / formula from plastic bottles that are heated. Teething rings, pacifiers, toys, diaper covers. Inundated from birth, if you think about it.

All this pollution also has other impacts like turning male species gay

in fish and birds we've seen what happens as it impacts them more. in some cases the entire male sex has disappeared from species

Let's be honest, the French have always been a little effeminate.

The real question remains, what has changed in the last 17 years. Cel phones, food, what can be traced to that time.

Uh, well you also have to look at other factors. Firstly, all the Western populations are aging. Older men have lower sperm counts, that is just a fact of life. Secondly, what is the proportion of overweight men? Excess fat will cause your sperm count to drop. Sedentary lifestyle will as well. While I have no doubt there are some environmental elements this trend would have showed up a lot earlier if they were the sole cause.

Face it, traditional western office life just isn't good for the swimmers. Hot Tip:Stand up and look down, if you can't see your penis you have a problem. Crude yes, but it's the truth.

A Very good point, such a study should have been conducted on normal men not on those seeking reproductive services.

Please explain the travels of a birth control pill through the body of a man.

I'll get you started with the monologue:

"Dude I'm so lost..."

We've already got SEVEN BILLION people... do we really need to worry about reproducing at this point?

Does anyone think twice before deciding more people need to be here?

Start taking MACA ROOT POWDER >> feelgoodtime.net...

Start drinking more water and less soda and beer.

Don't keep your cell phone in your crotch.

Start eating organic foods.

Stop eating processed foods.

Don't wear constricting underwear.

Work out.

Take a daily supplement vitamin. (Or look into multiple different supplements to work with each day. Powders and liquids work best.)

Eat more veggies and fruits.

Think about your health on a daily basis. You will only be as healthy as the food you put into your body.

Great tips! When it comes to maca root powder. It really boosts your libido and I know it had helped many to get pregnant. Amazing alternative medicine indeed!

You know, I thought about this, but I think on average, the French live a healthier lifestyle than Americans. More walking, more wine, better food. I could be generalizing, but last time I was in Europe, the lifestyle appeared healthier. I started thinking about how bad the American lifestyle is, and how we may be even worse.

Although, I am not sure I would trust a fertility clinic study, bit of a bias there.

From the little I know on this subject it would seem that sperm counts overall have reduced dramatically over the last 40 or 50 years.
There have been a number of studies which suggest that male fertility is connected with very early male development, from a foetus onwards rather than later in life.
So while environmental factors are certainly involved, it's generally what the mother has been exposed to whilst carrying the baby rather than the male in later life.

So basically, it's all women's' fault.

Birth control leftovers in our drinking supply and the other HUGE one : Soybeans in all of our processed foods.

Wonder why women take soybean oil for menopause? It has estrogen in it.

Hate to have to repeat it AGENDA 21 - POPULATION CONTROL - brought to you by the UNITED NATIONS.

A perfect way to take over a planet eh?.. reminds me of the Stargate SG-1 episode when the Aschen infect all males and end up wiping them out in a few generations.. The Aschen said "We are a very patient race"...

If we were talking about health and you wanted to give us your unscientific musings, that could be an interesting debate.

We aren't talking health, it's very specific. Sperm count. Add on top the participants and I agree there could be some bias. Regardless, this is targeted at French men only, and it's clear no one read the article except maybe me and you.
