“We have an increased concern about the possibility of the regime taking the desperate act of using its chemical weapons.” Such a move “would cross a red line for the United States.”

Irony given our own track record, lol. Depleted Uranium ring any bells? Hypocrisy at its best.

While the current regime needs reform, an overthrow will result in another post-revolution Egypt. If the West has any play in it, the Syrian people will lose their sovereignty and be given another dictator. Violent revolution accomplishes NOTHING.

It is always hard to know what is really happening on the ground and what they say is happening so they can invade. Anymore, it's a mess of unintended consequences. I assume the entire thing is a mess of mismanagement and contrived circumstance. That's not what I am interested in. The entire thing is a destiny impossible to change. Damascus will be destroyed. It is the oldest continuously occupied city on Earth and the Bible says it will be destroyed. Two chapters later, Isaiah 19 predicts Egypt waking up under a cruel master and brother fighting against brother. We see this happening in our lifetimes.

To give the conversation some context...

Isaiah 17:

17 The burden against Damascus.

“Behold, Damascus will cease from being a city,
And it will be a ruinous heap.
2 The cities of Aroer are forsaken;
They will be for flocks
Which lie down, and no one will make them afraid.
3 The fortress also will cease from Ephraim,
The kingdom from Damascus,
And the remnant of Syria;
They will be as the glory of the children of Israel,”
Says the Lord of hosts.

Interestingly, the passage doesn't explicitly state that Israel will be the cause of the destruction of Damascus, though personally I think it does hint at it later on:

9 In that day his strong cities will be as a forsaken bough
And an uppermost branch,
Which they left because of the children of Israel;
And there will be desolation.
10 Because you have forgotten the God of your salvation,
And have not been mindful of the Rock of your stronghold

This, I think, implies one of two possibilities:

a) Israel was behind the destruction of Damascus (they left because of the children of Israel)

OR

b) Israel follow up the destruction of Damascus with a foray into Syria.

and finally...

12 Woe to the multitude of many people
Who make a noise like the roar of the seas,
And to the rushing of nations
That make a rushing like the rushing of mighty waters!
13 The nations will rush like the rushing of many waters;
But God will rebuke them and they will flee far away,
And be chased like the chaff of the mountains before the wind,
Like a rolling thing before the whirlwind.

Personally I believe that these verses are referring to the war that occurs after the destruction of Damascus - which, in my opinion, is the war detailed in Psalm 83.

I think that these times are upon us.

Well, so does a lot of people....but in fact the reality we live is our own creation....so stop trying to conform it to the icky future the bible paints.....
The situation is still pretty fluid......i think you may be worrying about prophecy about the future.... not this situation....too many other things have yet to come to fruition before this happens i believe......
but its a start....

Many people reading and interpreting the bible continue to trip over the same mistake.

When the bible refers to Israel, it is not refering to the modern day country of Israel. Israel was NOT a country in biblical times. Israel as a country did not exist until 1948.

Israel of the bible is a people, the descendants of the twelve tribes who were scattered amoung the nations and today make up most of the so called 'western nations' of USA and the British Commonwealth countries.

So whenever the bible speaks of Israel doing this or that, or specifically the 'punishment of Israel' for her sins, then you can be sure its the western nations thats refered to.

When the bible speaks of the modern day 'country' of Israel, it generally speaks of the tribe or land of 'Judah'.

Isaiah 17:4-10

4 “In that day it shall come to pass
That the glory of Jacob will wane,
And the fatness of his flesh grow lean.
5 It shall be as when the harvester gathers the grain,
And reaps the heads with his arm;
It shall be as he who gathers heads of grain
In the Valley of Rephaim.
6 Yet gleaning grapes will be left in it,
Like the shaking of an olive tree,
Two or three olives at the top of the uppermost bough,
Four or five in its most fruitful branches,”
Says the Lord God of Israel.

7 In that day a man will look to his Maker,
And his eyes will have respect for the Holy One of Israel.
8 He will not look to the altars,
The work of his hands;
He will not respect what his fingers have made,
Nor the wooden images nor the incense altars.

9 In that day his strong cities will be as a forsaken bough
And an uppermost branch,
Which they left because of the children of Israel;
And there will be desolation.
10 Because you have forgotten the God of your salvation,
And have not been mindful of the Rock of your stronghold,
Therefore you will plant pleasant plants
And set out foreign seedlings;

It's a proclaimation against Israel and Syria. Whatever happens it's going to make them look at Jesus with respect, because that's who the Holy one of Israel is, the Anointed One = Jesus/Yeshua who is the real King of Israel and always has been.

The bible tells us that Syria will break away from the influence of Iran and eventually side with the European leader who defeats Iran and her allies in the King of the North and South war.

Then after about three and a half years, the EU and her Muslim allies(including Syria), will conspire against Israel(Psalm 83) and attack and invade her.

I feel that this is when Damascus may well be destroyed by the Israelies, when they realise they are to be overwhelmed and go for the Sampson Option.
