hey i used to live in an opus dei house in Mexico city called Residencia Universitaria Panamericana in 1999. I was studying law back then

This dudes are a branch of catholics "elitists hard core" with your basic "brunch" of people : closeted gays, nice guys, great guys, aholes etc.

We were about 87 students in the dorm/house from diffrent universities arround the Mexico city area. They seem to be very focused on two things:
1- Being in grace with god (thru confession)
2- avoid inmoral sexuality.

We had what we call "tertulias"( talks after meals), and talked just about what we felt comftorbale of talking. We had 2 live in chaplins One chaplin who was a great guy but held some "inpolitically correct" race views . He once told me that "black atheletes are better" with there exceptions. And "whites as a race are better thinkers" with there exceptions also.

This guys focus on sexuality is inmense. I mean we big ass residents couldn"t watch some pg stuff. the newspapers would get to us in the dinning room with literal holes in them cutting off all sexy propaganda.
When iwas out of the house i could pretty much do anything, but inside were the "authourities" were talks about girls were a no no.

Dinning was weired . This girls came in dressed like alicie of alice inwonderland and served us meals, we couldn't talk directly to them, if we wanted more food we had to cross our fork and knife over the plate
we couldn't even say thank you(i swear). if we absolutley had to talk to them we had to tell the director of the dinning room what we wanted to say, he rang a hand bell and he whisppered the message in her ear.
This girls worked for no pay 0 nada, they were being "taught" how to be a homekeeper( escuela ESDAI) and we where there laboratory they lived next to our house connected by a a bridge.
This were the weired things.

The bad thing is that one of the chaplins(not my friend)who was clearly homosexual, not that there is annything wrong with that, the thing is he would go "fetch" you after dinner and tell you "have you confessed" latley
then when he got you in the confession room he would focus almost exclusivley on the sexual, kinda creepy.

The good things: Great sense of community(like brothers)
Have tons of cash anduse it for there community. ranches were they go prey when one of the brothers(regular working people) who aports income
is in trouble eg(medical) they go to the rescue.

two type of members: numerarios (give 100% income, manteined by the community) supernumerarios(give 30% income). Numerarios (who aport all there money) residents (like myself) dont get cheated that i know evreything goes back to the community.
The only scam I see is with the girls. (beeing educated my a**)

Like all societies there is good and bad right down the middle. The house had kind of a creepy feeling to it l(maybe because it was (spanish barroco)
architecture.

They wanted to get some of the residents get involved really involved in there society but its up to the residents if they want to join.
well this is w

Thanks for the info, truly an intersting read!!!

Glad you showed that they aren't the "militant" catholics as most people now assume! The militants generally live in the Vatican.

Thanks again!!!

hi people heres a link for opus dei www.odan.org... it seems to have first hand accounts from ex members, basically stating the obvious its another catholic anti protestant/masonic order trying to take over the corrupt corridors of power in the vatican good reading

My best friend is Opus Dei - out of Washington DC.
I know many Opus Dei people. They are all 'normal'
(what ever that is) and they all would probably die
laughing their butts off if they read what you posted.

What you were involved in definately IS NOT what
Opus Dei is supposed to be. Sounds like some folks
got off the track, got on a power trip or something
and started their own cult.

There is Opus Dei, and then there are loons that hang
out the Opus Dei shingle but are really cults.

There are war heros like John McCain, and then there
are fakes that 'report for duty' like John Kerry.

Lesson learned - just because something claims to be -
doesn't make it so.

What you were involved in was definately NOT Opus Dei
and it definately didn't follow the Opus Dei spirituality.
Not even close.

Interesting read! . What I don't get is how did you "live" in that place? Are you deeply religious or did you just put up with the place?
Another question is - Do they drink/smoke? swear?
How do they feel about atheists[born christian]? Non Christians?

Mortification rituals? ouch!

This is a bizarre wing of the already bizarre catholic church, glad you got out. did you join for the heck of it or were you the highly religious sort?

That'll be the day when a cult gets most of my earnings in order to show me the 'way"

Thanks for the information

I am Catholic and know very little of the Opus Dei. I cannot confirm if he really lived in an Opus Dei house but many Catholics think the Opus Dei is a little wierd at times. They do good things for the community but that is about has much as I know about them.

The belt they sometimes wear is called a celise, usually around the thigh. I was wondering if anyone in this Mexico City house was wearing these. In addition I find it strange that the girl servers were dressed like Alice and Wonderland, sounds a little like a tease to me.

I can only assume the place MARIOISONFIRE lived in was not a true Opus Dei house. In a true retreat (place of holy study) men and women do not mix. I certainly was not aware that Opus Dei ran boarding houses which what you appear to be describing.

A flatulence belt eh? Sounds like punishment for the people around whoever is wearing it...

All I know about Opus Dei I "learned" from Dan Brown.
