OK, ATSers, here's your chance to be the next Nostradamus.

21.12.2012 has come and gone. What happened?

Are you still alive and seeing the results (if any) unfold?

Have we all 'ascended' and now sit among the Council of Intergalactic United Star Systems?

Did Jesus come back to kick some atheist butt?

Is the Earth still in one piece or scattered across the Kuiper Belt?

Let ATS know what you think in a short story. It can be funny, it can be sad, it can be indifferent, it can be momentous or whatever you want. Let your imagination drip from your fingers as you type.

All T&C's apply

Title must contain [2013]

Enter as many short stories as you like, but post them as seperate threads in the Short Story forum.

No upper or lower word count limits

Any writing form acceptable

There will be three winners chosen, based solely on the number of flags their story receives from your fellow members.

The contest runs until midnight, December31 and the winners announced the following morning of January 1.

Winners only will get writer status, 5 'applauses' each and included in the Showcase of Winners

Winners:

1st:

Hefficide
Ascension™

2nd:

Hefficide
Freaking Mayans

3rd:

Druid42
One Last Breath-Part Two

Uh Oh,
I thought this was gonna be a short story comp.
Oh well, I got a month to turn what I was working on into a shorter poem.
How hard can it be

My mistake

*facepalm*

It's a short story contest, but it can be in a poem too.

Maybe it is a short story or a poem?

Naturally.

I'm considering a contest in which the author puts forward, primarily in short story form (although all forms will be acceptable like always), a scenario he or she might find plausible for 21.12.2012, considering the events which have so far occured in 2012 and which could culminate in the last few days left in the year.

No-one can say that there have not been lots of incidences to throw into the mix. All one needs do is check out the most recent threads on ATS, all the way from drought to severe storms, rising sea levels (NYC), global conflicts and political upheavals. Lots of grist for that mill to draw on for inspiration.

A controversial story will, I'm sure, get lots of feedback and that usually tends to get more flags, so I suggest no-one holds back with their prophecies on the prophecy (T&C compliant, of course).

Thanks and no problem

I was racking my brain to figure out how to shorten my story up, then I remembered your reply above from the cold tracks thread.

I should have my magnum opus done in a few more days.

(I had to order out for some additional silliness.

My first entry....

This would be my first time participating in a writing contest. I'm just wondering what is the norm in regards to length, or, how many words would be considered too long. What's the procedure for posting it? Do I just go ahead and post it in the short stories forums, and that's it, or is there more to it? Thanks for any help.

From the OP;

We've had people do seven or eight chapters on stories, poetry, even a two-liner once (that Masqua removed...
)

If you want to familiarise yourself with the works, go through a few of the regulars stories in previous comps and you'll get a feel for how it all works.

Just remember to keep it somewhat G rated, in line with the T&Cs and you'll do fine.

ETA: Just a helper, if you're planning on laying something down, my advice is hash it out in MS Word or whatever processing program you use, then copy and paste it into a new thread. To enter, all you need to do is go into the Short Stories forum page (at the top of the page in this thread, and click on "New Thread." Then you just enter your title, make sure you include [2013] in the title, and copy your work over, check it once, then twice (sorry, OCD speaking), then hit post.

I hope this helps.

Of course, I had to respond to the contest, having read the others so far.

For your enjoyment, Entry #1, One Last Breath.

Not the massive tome I had originally thought. Something silly.

Hope you enjoy.
