South coast UK, there's a whopping great big halo around it.

My phone's camera is crap and isn't showing it properly

Can anyone else get a photo?

I was gonna call on Phage, but apparently it's caused by this

and as it's not showing up that well on camera...

no effects

There have been a few weather situations that don't happen over there lately.

Remember all the flashes of lights in the sky attributed to,eventually, heat lightening?

It seems that things with our climate are changing and becoming more noticeable.

Its certainly a Winter phenomena. I have seen it here in Australia numerous times and it always happen when there is either fog around or its very cold. Still an awesome sight never the less.

I've noticed it's a particularly clear night tonight in London. Just looked out at the moon. I didn't see anything like you are describing but I can see stars and that's not easy round here with all the light pollution and stuff

It's also really cold

Looked pretty creepy tonight in AZ, full moon , orange, with halo, and trails all around it. Reminded me of a horror movie

maybe we should have everybody by country and regions report in
because here in PR [Caribbean sea/ south Atlantic] we've had "ice crystal lunar halo" since yesterday

there can't be ice crystals all over the planet now, can there?
surely some places should be chem* COUGH COUGH* i mean free of ice crystals and thus no haloes
it's 1:12 am so no chance of me borrowing a camera but it would be best where possible for pics
lunar halo or not.

Couldn't see my hand in front of my face, never mind the moon, up here near the Pennines last night due to freezing fog.

Nothing like that in Portugal yesterday, at least where I live.

That effect is created by ice crystals in the upper atmosphere, so it can be warm at ground level, I have seen that happen several times.
