YESSSS!!! I've never seen this brought up on ATS before but it's bugged me for AGES. Anyone who has lived both outside and inside the US notices it easily, how there is no left in the US anymore. You have far right, right, and center right. Even the conservative party in Canada is FAR to the left of the democrats in the US.

This is what makes republican hatred of Obama so hilarious....he has essentially done EXACTLY what Bush did....and everything they hate, Bush would've undoubtedly done too.....so it's like they are complaining about the D next to his name, nothing more...

Any real conservative would note that Bush was NOT a conservative but was at the very minimum a moderate.

welllll.....

He wasn't an ideological monolith.

He was quite moderate on immigration, mainstream on the Fed, a neo-con on foreign policy, and so on...

He was a self-described, "compassionate conservative," but I think he was pretty much the alpha and omega of that movement.

It doesn't reflect the population... The media/tv is what conditions the people to believe those things or feel that certain way. America is NOT a democracy, so for Pete's sake can we all stop acting like it is?

7 out of 10 people will agree with you, 3 out of 10 people won't...or out of 10 people 3 will not agree with you and 10 will. All about how you phrase it as to where the emphasis will be placed...take any statistic and you can spin it anyway you want.

As a statistician, I see this crapola all the time in numerous depictions in the news, documentaries, etc.
It's appalling to me - although when I worked for fedgov the management was always wanting the most dumbed down version of the data I could prepare - remember 6th grade reading level is the "gold standard" in written communications. So there's a bit of "wiggle room" on presenting data - but the OP's examples are clearly fradulent and misleading in a purposeful way, not merely oversimplifications.
Another consideration when looking at POLL numbers is the "universe" of persons participating, I see many undocumented assumptions on polls all the time - so I have two suggestions:

1. ALWAYS READ THE NUMBERS NOT JUST THE PICTURE!
2. QUESTION THE ASSERTIONS MADE ABOUT THE DATA!

I bet with all your knowledge you could produce and excellent documentary on propaganda through statistics. Think about, I know you got one buyer right here!

I keep trying to take Dr. Paul's advice when he says, "Don't deal in absolutes." But in this case, imo, it's Ron Paul/Gary Johnson or bust.

Are we really still doing this, even on ATS. Arguing left - right issues like there is actually such a thing. We all know they are one in the same at the very top or at least we all should know by now. Even some people that I know, know better are doing it.

It must be because it's fun or something. I don't get it.

Strict

I think you summed it up nicely, Strict. I honestly don't see how anyone could come here and talk about how the "left or right" are worse, talking about what we talk about on various threads.

Doesn't make any sense whatsoever. If you are "awake," it doesn't make sense to ever vote for the "lesser of 2 evils" in any election.

Bush Sr. = Clinton = Bush Jr. = Obama = Romney.

If we were all on the same page about this, we could do a lot more than talk on the internet.

Just my 2 Bernanke's.

Let us be clear in our understanding of Hegelian Dialectical reasoning. There is both a left and a right or there could be no conflict. The conflict of the two opposing positions creates the synthesis. The Synthesis is what is neither right nor left, but the base positions are still intact in the philosophy behind the conflict. Yes the left do believe one thing and the right another. Both sides have some Statist thought. Antony Sutton says that the synthesis produced in the "managed conflict" is the NWO.
Obama is definitely a "left Hegelian" by all counts, but he does sometimes have to obey his NWO masters and do stuff which appears more centrist. He does appeal more to Left Hegelians who get mad when he won't close Gitmo or some other silly issue, then they declare him to be a moderate Republican or a Centrist at best.

Sutton also says that Fascism is still cut from the same ideological cloth as Communism and Socialism.

The Daily Show has more integrity

No, it does not, it just happens to appeal more to left leaners, liberals, and Democrats. then they dragged Jon Stewart into Congressional hearings. What a farce. Talk about a puppet stage. Stewart is clearly partisan.

COMMIE SOCIALIST THAT TOOK ALL UR RITES

He's working at it real hard...just like all the other NWO politicians. CFR surrounds all those who get into the WH as POTUS. They can do nothing without the Shadow Govt. However, they do let some of the left and right ideologies play out. So for instance, Barack clearly wanted to close Gitmo and disarm our military and do Cap and Trade, that was all for his left base. In reality, some Right Hegelians do not want to close Gitmo so it didn't happen that way. Barack talked about getting out of wars, but then he went into Libya and put more troops in Afghanistan. So he is still a war President no matter what the leftist shills say. Barack does use crony Capitalism to achieve his leftist goals. He does have Leftist goals, make no mistake. He wants to expand centralized bureaucratic govt control and the welfare state and is doing so in an accelerated fashion. That is a fact. Even his wife Michelle spouted Marxist rhetoric with all that talk of giving up our share of the pie so others can have more (in order to have the Universal healthcare).
But then after the Affordable Act got rammed through with every tactic of bribing and blackmail, the Right said they wanted to repeal it, but somehow the most conservative of Supreme Justices declared it Constitutional. I think some people stayed home for the election because they didn't believe Romney would repeal it as he said. It is left only to the non-CFR controlled people to fight against it.
I think though that some people want to keep Barack in maybe even permanently because at this stage of the game, the Hegelians are desperate to keep their power base.

So did Obama stop NDAA? No, he did not. Does it take our rights away? Yes it does. Obama did the TSA enhanced groping and backscatter machines. Does it take away our rights? Why, yes it does. Is he trying to clamp down on the Internet and take away your rights there? Why yes yes he is.
Somehow many (not all) on the Left let him get away with it because he has a D in back of his name.

Fox News is the same as all other media, in the same sense that Darth Vader is the same as all other Jedi, Hitler was the same as any other greedy political figure, Nazi party is the same as any other party.

Saying FOX News is the same is really taking all brain power out of the equation.

Life and Death are the same. Humans and dolphins are the same. I'm gonna call bullsh*t.

The extent that Fox News does it is absurd, and there is no comparison.

I practically get sick just watching a few minutes of MSNBC or CNN. I just can't stomach their views. They are indeed partisan, as much or more than Fox. If we didn't have Fox, the whole MSM on tv would be leftist. When everything is just one party, that is akin to Communism.

The Left in the U.S. died after McGovern lost. In the U.S. being "leftist" is merely not being right-wing enough.

NOT true at all! Being Left means believing that mankind is causing most of the Global Warming and that we are going to die from wicked superstorms and asphyxiation if we don't tax everybody to fix it(by using Agenda 21 to control how much energy and resources we can consume...and I heartily recommend reading Glenn Beck's new fiction book "Agenda 21" because he really nails the ideological controls), and it means believing that the Left wars are good and humanitarian and the Right wars are evil empire building. It means believing it is right and moral to confiscate as much private property as they can and give it to other people or causes. It means believing the govt can fix healthcare with bureacratic controls and subsidizing(by raising taxes on the rich to pay for it).

It means you believe that abortion is fine but Capital Punishment for hideous crimes is not.

Yes, there is definitely a Left operating here. Even some of the same old Leftists are in more power than ever. Take Bill Ayers for example, he and Bernadine Dohrn are as Leftist as it gets, and were involved in the Kent State riots as well as the Weather Underground bombings, and they were members of SDS, a radical Left group with an anarchic socialist bent.

And then there's Anita Dunn who gives applause and adoration to Mao, there's Van Jones an avowed Communist, Valerie Jarrett Communist, David Axelrod Communist. How are those people not leftist? Just because they are now in govt when Leftists preferred to agitate against govt doesn't mean a thing. They just found a better tool for control. Then they support the masses of left leaning people who protest in the streets and agitate for things like direct democracy and getting all their student loans paid off in full without working for it like everyone else has.

Yes, the Left is still there.

This isn't about left vs right....
this is about one news network that is manipulating data and fudging statistics to a huge degree. I wasn't talking about partisanship; you took my quote completely out of context. I was talking about the manipulation of facts and numbers, and no one does it on the level Fox News does.

I guess some folks on this comment thread missed that Fox news will not be broadcasting in Canada as actual News.

Fox News will not be moving into Canada after all! The reason: Canadian regulators announced last week they would reject efforts by Canada's right-wing Prime Minister, Stephen Harper, to repeal a law that forbids lying on broadcast news.

current.com...

FOX wanted to create a Fox News Canada, they were not banned they were simply not allow a broadcasters license which would allow them to be branded a NEWS network.

Canada’s Radio Act requires that “a licenser may not broadcast … any false or misleading news.” The provision has kept Fox News and right-wing talk radio out of Canada
current.com...

Canada Refuses to Allow Fox “news” A License, Lying to People is Illegal There This is not a new headline, but I feel it needs to be re-addressed as IT IS STILL PERFECTLY LEGAL TO LIE TO THE PUBLIC in United States Corporate Media, and it is getting worse.

Every news organization in the world bends perception, especially Yahoo News.

I personally don't understand how Yahoo News got into the news business.

Most of the stories they write are so useless, it's so upsetting that they are seemingly poking fun at white Americans.

Check out this news story that Yahoo thought it was so important to have as their headline for over 24 hours over the first weekend of December......news.yahoo.com...;_ylt=A2KJNF9mEb1QbV8APK7QtDMD

Then when I researched and read that an asian american was one of the "founding fathers" of yahoo, as was reported by Wikipedia, then I understood why they were making fun of this poor white girl, obviously suffering from some form of mental disorder.

Look, this news story is an example of why the Ozarks was constructed. Bravo, Arkansas. I applaud your effort! Keep on building. Don't let anyone in that's not proven themselves as being American.
