No, not really. But seeing as we're all starting to get into the holiday spirit, I'd like to take the time to remind everyone where your wonderful trinkets that you'll be leaving under the tree this year come from!

Factories covered in suicide nets...

Sadly, not American made, because great American companies like Apple don't want to pay you. There's much more profit to be had using slave labor and suicide nets. Steve Jobs was such a wonderful man.

Ho Ho Ho!

I'm so broke I can't afford that stuff. Not even made by slaves!

So you're not buying? How are those poor slaves supposed to enjoy their Christmas now? No wonder they're committing suicide: Lazy no-goods like you who won't support Apple's corporate model....

You don't really believe Apple is the only one using Foxconn labor do you? Nearly major tech brand in the states using them. I think there is one that actually outlines their US made products in their marketing campaigns, but it's only a certain model or line...

The Nexus-Q (Google):

Forget the applications like video and audio streaming, or the built-in speakers. The most noteworthy feature of Google's new Nexus Q device may be this: It's made in the United States.

And the old complaint used to be, "Only the rich can afford cell phones"

I haven't owned a cell phone since 2005. I don't plan to ever own one again... at least until I can buy one that's American made and doesn't cause brain tumors!

I have to admit that while I do try to buy British, it is bloody hard to find things made here.. after 2 years of looking I have only just found an electronic cigarette that is not just designed but also manufactured here.. only god would know how long it would take me to find something for the kids that they not just want but that is made here.. I suspect (due to global warming) hell would freeze over first.

The worst part was when Mao and his army got every peasant in China, and forced them to work at foxconn and threatened to shoot their only baby son if they refused to operate his super mighty uber machines that one day will take over the world!

It's either that or the triad, I hear.
and you try putting one of those dinky iphone things back together with only 2 fingers!

To a point, yes, but I built this computer myself and I bought what I could locally (American made). There's a difference between mindlessly buying slave bought goods and doing everything you can not to (even if that means spending more).

Wow, so for like 4-6 bucks an hour they do manual labor? sounds like the U.S. but for a few years ago. And since their currency is worth a little more than ours now, I say I should move to china to get factory job.

why would you buy their end of year overstock.

iphone 5s will be launched in a couple of months.

its going to be awesome. it will be .005 mm thinner and the screen will be 1/36 of inch larger.

it'll cost the same, but it will be worth it to push the homeless off the sidewalk and line up for 72 hrs while its trending on twitter.

Would just like to point out what a load on nonsense the whole suicide problem was. The suicide rate among workers at foxconn is well below the overall suicide rate of china. In other words, a chinese person working at foxconn is less likely to commit suicide than one who does not work there.

I know it is fun to demonize manufacturers, but most of you have no idea what you are talking about. You realize those 14 year olds would be prostitutes or something worse if they didn't have a job making cell phones? You think if Foxconn wouldn't have hired them they would be at home or school living a happy little life?

This kids would be working period. Better to be a factory worker for little money than a prostitute or have their limbs chopped off and forced to beg for income for someone else. I know this factory life doesn't fit your world view but you have no idea what you are talking about. Just stop it already. The rest of the world is a harsh place, you gotta get what you can or you go without.

It seems you would rather see them go into prostitution or begging then have a decent job in an environmentaly controlled factory with a bed to sleep in. I own a QC company that operates in China, I know all of this from first hand knowledge. All of you, don't know anything but what you read on your hipster website.

Every time you buy an iPhone somebody does indeed fly off a building, but they don't have wings

But no, these people aren't committing suicide because of the work conditions. They are still deeply depressed over their hero Steve's death. Maybe they need some grief counseling.

Why does it have to be this particular 'either or' paradigm where the only options are child prostitution or child exploitation? Accepting such a binary position only helps perpetuate the world being the harsh place you point out.

????? Most of these people make 4 bucks a day if they are lucky. I have no idea where you get 4-6 bucks an hour.

The Problem is US policy who created this mess with treaties with China. For many years China was behind a wall of sorts where no info got in or out and they did not trade with the west. opening this up, invited this to happen. You want someone to blame, blame US policy makers. They single-handedly ruined our country and currency.
