Former President Clinton; Secretary-General?

In an interesting development, word is that Bill Clinton is actively seeking to replace Annan in 2006 as head of the UN.

Spring forward to 2008 and a potential Hillary candidacy for US President.

The Clintons may rule the whole roost, after all.

It was a UPI story that came across the tape about 15 minutes ago.

I'll try and find it elswhere, as the news feed is unlinkable. I did a quick google and rumors surfaced last spring on the same subject.

Actually, I suspect that the next Secretary General of the UN is going to be Asian. The UN really takes the alternance of regions into account - for example, when Boutros Boutros-Ghali lost his position in 1996, Kofi Annan was chosen, among other reasons, because it was felt it was still Africa's turn. So we have the following list:

1) Trygve Lie (Norway - EUROPE) 1946-1952
2) Dag Hammarskjold (Sweden - EUROPE) 1953-1961
3) U Thant (Burma - ASIA) 1961-1971
4) Kurt Waldheim (Austria - EUROPE) 1972-1981
5) Javier Perez de Cuellar (Peru - AMERICAS) 1982-1991
6) Boutros Boutros-Ghali (Egypt - AFRICA) 1992-1996
7) Kofi Annan (Ghana - AFRICA) 1997-

So unless the UN decides that North America should have a go at it (in which case it would be either a Canadian, an American or a Mexican), I'd say it's Asia's turn again.

Please More like because its become a useless curroupt organization which is so toothless it can't even enforce its own rulings.

Also, the candidacy of the former mayor of Mexico, Cuauhtemoc Cardenas, would be interesting - he's made a name for himself as a corruption fighter.
