Unbelievable: The IDF Has Gamified Its War Blog

The IDF Blog now has atrocious gamification badges with points and rewards for sharing the content to social media. For example, if you visit the site 10 times, you get the "Consistent" badge. If you search the blog multiple times, you're promoted to "Research Officer." Yes, Israel has gamified war. This is absolutely horrendous...

...It's unforgivable. There's just no justifying it. Gamification is offensive when coupon companies do it. This is a WAR. Israel is trying to enlist the people of the world in its campaign with military ranks, badges and points. Disgusting. Innocent people are dying on all sides, and Israel wants to reward people for tweeting about it.

How totally immoral. Should be classified as a war crime IMO. It is an up-in-your-face mockery of an oppressed population. They must want people to hate them.

Hmmm.... I got the idfblog page to load for just a moment, then it crashed back down..... I hadn't seen anything about a game there but I'll keep looking. This is where I've been following the Israeli side of the news feed and they don't mention anything about FB type badge games or that nonsense there. If it is how that presents it, heck, I'll delete the infographics I've gotten from the IDF up to now. Making a game of it is completely crass and beneath contempt.

The info graphics are something they've sure come to embrace though and the numbers seem accurate enough by other sources. I can't much fault that after seeing the last few issues of Inspire, which is the Jihadi version of Newsweek produced by the Yemeni chapter of Al Qaeda. Everyone's in the graphics and media business these days. (sigh)

** Thanks OP... I zapped the graphic I'd used which still fell into the time frame for post edit on another thread. The others in one other post I'm leaving after some thought for how far outside edit time they are now and the numbers themselves are valid as best I can determine. I had no idea this game existed....and now that I did get on to really check it out, I'm disgusted. It gives anyone using their Infographics the taint of doing it for benefit FROM them. I liked the way they put them together was my only draw to using them....and find the whole concept of earning "ranks" in their military game for showing what ought to be just plain data as being as low class as I've seen any nation do a thing in quite some time.

but in the end they are using social media as a tool now, do u rhink they new social media wode be a great toll to gather intelligence and spread propaganda, or do u think this something they realized as of late?

Israel is one of the smartest nations on Earth when it comes to media and population interaction.

They do the simple things right, they look at what common folk enjoy and relate to and then stick to that means.

This system being discussed here is nothing but analasis of Facebook, Google + etc. They realised people like status, people like ratings... this just feeds that!

Also, I noticed on the TV that Israel uses Female Army Officers to discuss its military aspects on TV. What a brilliant move.

A female is always warmer, more appealing to the people, more trust worthy and softer to look at it.

I remember the last war Israel had, they would phone up people in apartment complexes a few minutes before they strike and tell them to get out or find cover.

I do not like Israel for a number of reasons but I like the way they conduct themselves in these matters!

spreading propaganda is not a new thing ,
.The war machine of all countries involved during WW2 , encouraged citizens to listen out for traitors,infiltrators ,spies etc among other things, and most likely rewarded information garnered
Tactics of war are based on the past ,and so it continues, just the delivery systems are different.

Every few months 500 new homes approved on bulldozed stolen land
Then few months later 800 new homes approved.

Out of Desperation Palestinians lob a missile or two to fight back.

And Israelis say AHA Look at the terrorists, lets wipe out a bunch of them.

I don't know who I hate more, Zionists in Israel or their apologists in the west.

Why is it disgraceful to try and get their message out? I don't understand what the complaint is? They aren't rewarding people for war, they are rewarding people for visiting their site, and sharing their content. Isn't that the goal of every blog? I have a sneaking suspicion you are only appalled because you would be appalled at anything the IDF does.

Honestly, I couldn't care less about the problems in the Middle East. I think the rest of the world should just let them fight it out and quit interfering. I don't care if Israel or Hamas or Palestine or Iran wins or loses or annhilates each other. I don't see why other folks (like you) get so caught up in it? Half the world thinks Israel needs to be destroyed and the land returned to the Muslims, and the other half of the world thinks it is their religious duty and ticket to heaven to defend Israel at all costs. It all seems stupid to me, but getting upset over a marketing trick is just as stupid.
