Haven't you noticed the latest trends by leftists?... Even the terrorists of the FARC are now said to be "peaceful"... despite their decades of terrorism, attacking the VERY POOR PEOPLE they claimed they were representing and helping...

Some very powerful people, who are leftist, have convinced the FARC to stop their techniques, at least for a while, so they can sell to the world, and to the ignorant, the lies of the left...

The castro brothers have done it making Cuba one of the poorest countries in the world when it USED to be the jewel of the Caribbean... Meanwhile they STARVED, and continue to starve the Cuban people, and IMPOSED their leftist ideas and programs on their own people, they did "charity" in some places around the world, like New York, so the ignorant people who don't really know the truth about the castro brothers would believe that "they are working for the people"...

Chavez is doing the same thing, and in fact it has been Chavez who convinced castro to allow the clergy back in Cuba. But you think they did this out of charity? or to allow freedom?...

Just like this man, all they are doing is presenting a LIE to the world so people swallow these lies and "accept them"...

But mark my words, these socialist/marxist ideologies ALWAYS and ONLY show their true side once these leftist people are in power... But now what they want is "international socialism/marxism"...

Once enough people have swallowed these OLD lies AGAIN, and once these powerful people are in power they will show their TRUE FACE... It has ALWAYS been that way, and mark you my words once it happens, and it will happen, I am going to be that voice in the back of your head telling you "I told you so"...

??? They're starviing? Here's what Cuba is according to wiki

Cuba is home to over 11 million people and is the most populous island nation in the Caribbean, as well as the largest by area.

However, the population density is lower than in most Caribbean countries. Its people, culture, and customs draw from diverse sources, such as the aboriginal Taíno and Ciboney peoples, the period of Spanish colonialism, the introduction of African slaves and its proximity to the United States.

Cuba has a 99.8% literacy rate,[3][15] an infant death rate lower than some developed countries,[16] and an average life expectancy of 77.64.[3]

In 2006, Cuba was the only nation in the world which met the WWF's definition of sustainable development; having an ecological footprint of less than 1.8 hectares per capita and a Human Development Index of over 0.8 for 2007.[17]

Doesn't look to me like they're miserable and starving.
Hmmm.
Here's another group of Cuban gals:

It's true 100k isn't a huge amount. My husbands salary is right around there and he's just a blue collar for a petroleum testing company. We have enough to get by and for me to be a stay at home mom. We're able to keep a little in savings and stay off of welfare, but that's about it. Not rich by any means.

Um, did you just get off the boat? LOL some of these politicians are making 100k plus a year or more how much more do you need, and look at our country! Trillions in debt hahaha

Trillions in debt and paying a 533 senators/representatives 100k salaries have nothing to do with each other. That's only 53 million in salary per year. 53 million might sound like a lot to you but in terms of the federal budget it's really quite small. To put a number to it 53 million is .0000212% of the federal budget (the part we have the money for, not the part we put on the governments credit card). To give you an analogy it would be like you making $50k a year and deciding you need more money so you pick up a penny on the ground (1 cent is to $50,000 as 53 million is to a 2.4 trillion budget).

They shouldn't be paid a damn thing, the positions weren't meant to be a profession, you are supposed to volunteer service because you see that you can make a difference in town, county, state, or country PERIOD!, not make a career out of it. When politics becomes a career, you end up with useless people because they will do what's needed to keep food on table, especially at 100k or more, hell there are people that aren't even politicians making more than 300k in Rhode island lol on the states dollar of course.

They may not have originally been meant to be a profession but they are now. You can't expect people to volunteer in an age where most people require two people bringing in an income to get by. If you do, then what happens is people need to make that income up elsewhere. Either you're a rich successful business man that has deep pockets and can afford to not bring in income, or your income gets passed to you under the table from special interests. Actually paying someone makes them less likely to sell out to special interests, as you said people do what's needed to keep food on the table and if the expectation is that their job in politics doesn't do that then they'll pass legislation that gets them that money.

with lobbyist in play that give tons of money and secret perks you will never get away from this until lobbyist are abolished.

Lobbyists are an issue but they're a different issue because they're a factor regardless of how much money the politician makes.

In case you didn't know, which you obviously don't, Cuba has been a Marxist-Leninist dictatorship since the socialist/communist revolution of 1959. I was born in Havana Cuba and lived the fruits of the "revolution" unlike you.... I find it hilarious how people who are totally ignorant of what happens in countries like Cuba want to tell Cubans like myself how life has been there...

Also, in case you didn't know ALL information that you read about "how wonderful life is in Cuba" comes from one source... THE CUBAN COMMUNIST DICTATORSHIP...

Are you familiar with that word?... DICTATORSHIP?....

Another thing you obviously don't know is that many of those girls who go to school in Cuba, and are as young as 10 are sold as prostitutes to RICH TOURISTS, and even their teachers have it set up so they sell the services of those girls...

The rich BASTARD tourists that go to Cuba would even tell you that Cuban girls are very cheap... Many Cubans girls, boys women and even men will sell their bodies for a meal, and that is the truth. Others are a bit more expensive.

The following video documentary was done by a film maker from Spain who went to Cuba to find out if it is true that Cuban minors are being sold in school as prostitutes.

The video is in Spanish but I will translate it.

WARNING, THERE ARE SOME GRAPHIC IMAGES THAT ARE SEXUAL IN NATURE OF PARTIALLY NUDE MINOR CUBAN GIRLS WHO ARE SOLD AS PROSTITUTES TO TOURISTS...

At the start of the video the film maker says that castro always mentions with pride the educational system in Cuba. But the truth is far from what the COMMUNIST DICTATOR AND HIS DICTATORSHIP claim...

Then we see a scene of a young Cuban girl with the "communist costume for school" and who is 14 years old is asked by the film maker how she is able to get away from the school to have sex with tourists.

She then describes that the TEACHERS get paid by the tourists, or the girls, with part of the money that the girls get from the sexual predators that go to Cuba to have sex with minors.

BTW, haven't you seen children in Africa who barely have anything to eat smile at tourists hoping to get something from the tourists?...

Then you see fidel and hear a speech by him in which he claims...

"Education is an instrument for excellency"

Even under the worst circumstances people try to make the best of their situation...

Then you can see part of the names of the girls, all of which are minors, and that the film maker was able to talk to about their prostitution, and the film maker explains, as the girls told him, that they can't tell him their entire name, and their identity must remain secret because if not they will be accused of "actions which are counter-revolutionary" and they will be detained FOR TALKING WITH A JOURNALIST about what really happens to many Cuban girls who go to school and are sold as prostitutes...

Then the film maker explains that they have never been detained, or accused of prostitution even thou the communist DICTATORSHIP knows that it happens.

The Cuban dictatorship is only interested in "keeping a false image", they are not interested in stopping prostitution, and only persue it when Cuban prostitutes are identified by foreign media.

Then after talking about the supposed "free elections" of January 20th 2008, which btw are all a real sham. the film maker says that it is not his intention to cover the elections, but that he, and a member of the film maker's crew will meet Marcos, a 16 year old Cuban boy who is one of the pimps of Cuban minors in the area and the school that Marcos attends.

They meet in the middle of a busy street, very close to the Cuban Capitol and the boy is dressed in his school uniform. Then the other member of the film crew explains that he had been negotiating with Marcos for 4 months, and the undercover story is that the member of the film crew works for 5 rich corporate moguls, three Italians and two from Spain, who are going to visit Havana Cuba and want to have sex with Cuban girls who are minors.

The member of the film crew, Luis, then explains that he told Marcos that the boy would recieve a commission for bringing young Cuban girls that go to his school but only if the crew member from Spain finds them attractive and likes them.

The young boy Marcos, then assures Luis that he will find the most attractive and the youngest girls in his school within 24 hours.

Then you see how Marcos goes to the school and pays the people that work for him and who get the girls who are sold to tourists for sex for $100 CUBAN PESOS. From that money Marcos gets $20 and the girls get around $30, the rest is to pay for the school teachers, and other boys that are part of the prostitution ring. Then Luis explains that appart from what Marcos gets from the $100 Cuban pesos, he is also given a comission.

Marcos also explains that the girls are very young, up to 16 or 17 years old because tourists that go to Cuba are always looking for MINORS.

Then the film maker says that Marcos told him that prostitution in Cuba is exorbitant, and that Cuba has become a tourist paridise for perverts passing as tourists. (my words, not his but it is pretty much how Marcos describes it)

Anyway, I don't want to derail the thread, but as this man that so many of you ignorantly want to proclaim a saint, and a "saviour of the poor", is in actuality a national Marxist who is trying to give people a false image of who he really is. That man was one of the leaders of the Marxist terrorists known as Tupamaros. This man, alongside those under his command, robbed, stole cars, kidnapped, tortured and even executed people.

Since the ideals of Jose Mujica are to this day identical to those of the Cuban communist DICTATORSHIP, the truth about Cuba should shed a light to the realities of what lies in the soul of this false man.

BTW, also in case you didn't know the Cuban dictatorship doesn't allow international Human Right Groups to investigate what happens in Cuba. If the Cuban dictatorship finds that you are making a film about Cuba without the permission of the state, and how the state wants the film to be made, you will be not only detained, but will be accused of "doing counter-revolutionary actions". in most cases the communist dictatorship will ban you from ever visiting Cuba as long as you were not born in Cuba. This has happened to some tourists who have tried to find out, and show to the world the truth about Cuba.

For example, it happened to Helena Houdova, and her friend. Helena has a charity for children around the world and she decided to visit Cuba to see what she could do to help them. But her good intentions got her, and her friend arrested for trying to show to the world part of the truth about Cuba.

...

The former Miss Czech Republic 1999 runs a foun dation in New York that supports dis advantaged children and wanted to see what she could do to help in Cuba.

But on Monday, Cuban security police detained Houdova and her companion, Czech psychologist Mariana Kroftova, while they were taking photographs in the poor Havana area of Arroyo Naranjo.

They were released 11 hours later after signing a let ter saying they would not engage in "counter-revolutionary" activities.

"We were afraid," Houdova said. "We grew up under communism and know what it is like."

Helena Houdova

01/27/2006: Miss Czech Republic 1999 Helena Houdova and a friend were in Cuba taking photos of slums when they were arrested for taking pictures of ... slums. The runway model, who runs a foundation for underprivileged children, was held for 11 hours and made to sign a document stating that she will not commit "counterrevolutionary acts." Police confiscated her roll of film, but the photos were preserved in a memory card that Houdova hid in her bra and were presented in an exhibition intended to bring to light political oppression in Cuba.

www.trutv.com...

There are MANY videos that you can find online of Cubans who ahve been able to smuggle videos of the reality of Cuba, for example the conditions of the hospitals that REAL REGULAR Cubans have to go to, meanwhile the tourists, and the elite in the communist regime go to special hospitals which are well stocked and with the latest technology... The video from Michael Moore is taken in one of those FEW hospitals for TOURISTS and for the Cuban ELITES...

No wonder the world is in so much crap these days when people out of ignorance choose murderers as idols or icons for everyone else...

Heck, probalby most of you think Che fought for the poor people when in fact he was a murderer who used his skills as a doctor to torture people and executed regular Cubans who would not bow to the "revolution" at his whim and without trial...

Uh, yes, I DID know, and I DO know; I am fully aware that it is a "socialist" state, IN CASE YOU DIDN'T KNOW, which you obviously don't know ONE DAMNED THING about me. And, due to the abrupt and rude response you made, I have no interest in hearing anything else from you.

I don't need you to translate anything, I speak fluent Spanish and have worked with (meaning alongside, as well as giving aid and assistance to) people from ALL of the Central American and Island Latino populations, as well as South Americans.

All I did was post two pictures and ask you a question. There was NO NEED to become belligerent and abusive towards me. Those pictures came from Google images, and the text from Wikipedia. If they are incorrect, could you not simply SAY SO without attacking ME!?????????

I'm sorry you're so pissed off, but you really shouldn't judge people or ASSume you know one damned thing about what they DO or DON'T know. How rude, childish, and destructive to denying ignorance.

EXCELLENT job of shutting down an inquisitive challenge.
NOT.

The president of Uruguay is a former communist guerilla. He is presiding over a government that is fragment with far leftists who are incapable of making any decisions let alone tough ones. Agriculture alone, cannot sustain an economy. A paralyzing influence for Uruguay is a megalithic government that stifles free enterprise. Civil servants have jobs for life and are essentially fire-proof. This promotes mediocracy in a governmental system that is totally self serving. Almost all taxation goes to paying salaries and not providing services. Other important economic sectors are banking and construction and tourism. With the collapse of Argentina tourism will collapse. The only domestic airline Pluna has been engulfed in corruption and it has failed with nobody to step in and provide the service.
Uruguay is a ticking time bomb. It is heavily dependent on capital inflows from Brazil and Argentina in particular. Both of these economies are stressed and Uruguay cannot be far behind. Taxes are very high in Uruguay and government is unresponsive to the economic changes.
For example getting residency in Uruguay has turned into a complex process sometimes taking years as compared to a few months just a few years ago. Panama, for example opened up immigration to economically qualified foreigners in 2004 and staved off a deep recession. It was successful beyond the wildest imagination of the government with retirees pouring investments into homes and general consumption. Panama countinues to benefit from this.
Instead of relaxing immigration, Uruguay has tightened it at precisely the time when the economy is floundering. Mujica is full of empty rhetoric. Renouncing his salary may appear to be a noble gesture but, Mujica, like other world leaders do not rely on a governmental salary to sustain them. As a leader he has multiple avenues for additional income not available to you and I. For example, Bill Clinton has a fortune estimated at $129 million. That did not come from his salary as president. Look at Tony Blair, who bought multi-million dollar homes for his children. This did not come from his Prime Ministerial salary. Obama too, did not become wealthy from his presidential salary. Leaders are in the power game, not for the salary, but for the job perks.
Mujica is a strong leftist who through his incompetence and inaction will drag Uruguay into an economic quagmire. A study of the history of this guy will portray an entirely different picture of him than is suggested in the video. He will prove like other idealists before him, that socialism works until you run out of other people's money. Uruguay has prospered not because of Mujica but rather, in spite of Mujica.

To give you an analogy it would be like you making $50k a year and deciding you need more money so you pick up a penny on the ground (1 cent is to $50,000 as 53 million is to a 2.4 trillion budget).

Terrible analogy you could just said, 53 million is a drop in the bucket ^^ true enough when comparing it to national debt, but compare it to your salary I bet its a very big number 8op

I appreciate your wall of text to try and teach me about numbers. I don't care if they spend 43 trillion on the government salary, also a very big number, ^^ the fact remains, our elected officials make more than most people will see in a lifetime on this planet and yet still continue to get hand caught in the cookie jar, so if this president has his hand in the cookie jar at least he is giving away most of the peoples money back to them.

Where as in this country(usa), the simpletons we have running under a president(not even a president) are making 100k to hundreds of thousands, not including board member privileges and STILL continue to take from people, get caught, and KEEP the money as a salary. All in a system that promotes it through lobbyist. Lobbyist are not a different issue, show me another American that can walk into a politicians chambers and get a law passed that specifically helps your business/home in a particular way, complete rubbish. A bribe is a bribe, just as a rose is a rose.
