I would think that their energy is strongest with the appliances on seeing they give off more energy then when they're off. But who's to say the ghosts themselves weren't "energized" or "charged" off of the energy? I never worry about "noises in the night" unless I hear glass shatter. I hear creaking noises all the time. I attribute many of them to the house settling but I know a few that won't make a noise unless someone actually puts weight on it.

I have fans going 24/7 due to my tinnitus. Both big and small. I've also gone with an EMF meter around my house and found that my baseline with everything off is about a 0.3 but on everything jumps to a 1.2. So I'm guessing there's more enough energy here for something to manifest itself.

But if I were you, I'd stop watching those horror movies by myself. Goodness knows I love to do the same, but boy oh boy do they pull some mind tricks on me!

Thanks for sharing your story.

Burgurlularers. They saw you with 2 laptops and a nice telly, and thought they'd sit outside your bedroom door until you fell asleep.

They would have gotten away with it too, if you hadn't been such a paranoid floyd!!!

Lucky !!

I'm going to play Devil's Advocate here. Entities are thought to be comprised of energy. We're all connected to the Earth through energy. I think when people leave the physical realm, some of their energy gets left behind.

To OP - try to capture some evidence. Either use a video-camera or voice recorder and do some EVP recordings. But try several times, over a few weeks. If there is something paranormal going on, you'll capture something eventually. If not - then you've debunked your own theory.

And if you find any evidence - post it here!

But there's always a flip side to that though. Let's say right now OP is comfortable with the level of activity that's going on (if any). When you start pushing energy into finding out what's going on, like giving them the attention by trying to capture EVP's, pictures and videos he could be inadvertently causing the activity to rise.

It's happened to me. Nothing bad but it was spooky for a while before I had enough.

But you're absolutely spot on regarding the whole energy deal. We're all energy. Our brains run off of electricity. The earth is a giant magnet. We all operate on certain frequencies. Everything is interconnected even if we can't see it.

Yep. It's a catch 22.

Me being me, and the curious sort, I would investigate because I never know when to leave things alone

Well, I live in a house build in the 1780's which has a tangle-work of bent timbers and where there are no right angles.

I am reassured by the creaking and occasional "pop" and "snap". The house moves with the temperature changes, and with the wind, and possibly with the memories of past lives. If I was another person I would be scared. I would be more scared if the place was silent. Silence is creepy. Modern houses have no ghosts.

My answers are always ignored but I'll share it anyway, those who don't believe probably don't have an open mind.

So I watched a movie on Hulu the other year, it was a horror movie with the subject matter involving the spirit-world we can't see, this device when turned on would allow you to see the types of entities you can only 'see' when lucid dreaming or astrally projecting or whatever. The movie freaked me out, didn't know it was a horror, thought it would be sci-fi, so I turned off the movie after about 15 minutes.

While trying to sleep immediately after turning off this freaky movie an entity in the astral plane attempted to bother me, walked around my room, moved any object it could move etc, walked through me etc. I believe the horror movie itself attracted it to me, or my reaction to the movie itself caused it to 'make its move', sounds like a very similar situation to the OP, a certain type of spirit entity that preys on those who watch horror movies alone? sounds a little weird, has only happened to me 1 times so not saying I'm an expert on the subject but perhaps the entity was feeding off of your fear, and when it was cut off, had nothing to feed off of, so perhaps attempted to create an alternate source of the fear, making noises, the thing is, I never react to the intimidation, I just go to sleep and shrug it off, that's my natural reaction, perhaps others would react differently, such as turn on all the light and run through the house trying to find a logical explanation, I already know the explanation is supernatural.

He's right. The only time I ever become really aware of spooky noises is when I've watched a horror or thought something scary before bed. Sometimes types of food do that too, make me restless to the point of listening. Fear and lack of sleep are conducive to freaking out at night.

That isn't to say that I don't believe what most people here do; I lived in a haunted house and there's a real difference - you can really feel a presence and what its intentions are then! I not only heard noises and felt fear but felt presence and variations in temperature, anger in the air and sometimes an icy cold touch. That's s**t scared!

Thanks for the relief, This is the first time I've ever really discussed a topic like this, great to hear that it really is just the house

No problem dude. Sometimes things have rational explanations. Now, if you were hearing disembodied voices accompanying the creaks, or hearing the creaks at the same exact time every night, then you might have something, but I'm 99.9% sure it's just the house settling.

Watching anything scary, is an invite to the ones you can't see. Horror movies,at some level makes you scared and you are more susceptible to influences of beings that would be more than glad to feed off your fear energy.

I don't know what type of television you have but you might be hearing the internal mechanisms in your TV as they are cooling. Even newer flat screen TVs make noises as they cool down after they are turned off. I also agree with others that you are probably hearing your house creak as the temperature drops in the evenings. If you turn on a old style box fan or a white noise machine it will mask the sounds and make it easier for you to sleep. If you want extra security you can always go to the local hardware store and get a motion detector that you can install all by yourself right outside of your bedroom (there are types that can be up an running without any wiring).

And like I said, and stand by what I said, it doesnt hurt to actually seek, to deprogram and ask for help, pour out any faults and failings and lack of love, pray for awareness and the ability to help those around you and to rise above, what is actually there, around all of us, in this testing ground, no matter who thinks so or not.

It certainly doesnt hurt to get on mission, on target, and turn the dial of our unconditonal love and service to others higher.

In fact it helps enormously.

thats your house settling.

The house heats up and expands during the day from the sunlight. Cools down and contracts at night. Your hearing the creaking of the wood grinding against it's self while this transition occurs.

Most people claim that ghosts are making noises in their attics. Why would a ghost hang out up there to begin with since they spent their lives living in the house not up in the attic. You would think they would be more attached to the bedrooms, living room or kitchen then the attic.

But, the hottest part of a house is the roof and attic and it's also the first to cool off. SO it makes a lot more sense that that is what is making noise rather than ghosts. The sound and the vibrations and settling travel down through the supporting members of the houses frame and can make noises just about anywhere in the house.

I see what you mean i agree i believe watching a horror movie before going to bed would attract a mindset of creating a minor scenario, thanks for the opinion

It's just "paranoia". My house goes bump in the night daily, it's 125 years old, it should have bumps and creaks, I would be more scared if it was totally silent. It even has the same bumps in the night when my parents aren't in bed, and when they are. Don't worry brah, you're safe.
