USGS

NOAA Statement #1/There is no tsunami danger: wcatwc.arh.noaa.gov...

Earth-orbiting satellites detected a small ash cloud from Mount Cleveland – otherwise known as Cleveland Volcano – which makes up a large part of a remote and uninhabited island in the east-central Aleutian Island chain. The satellites took note of the small eruption at 11:47 a.m. local time in Alaska (20:47 UTC). The ash was drifting slowly toward the east-northeast from the volcano’s summit. Scientists keep an eye on this volcano, because it can be hazardous to aircraft.

Dang! More and more as time goes on! Crazy time we are living in. I have my opinions but this is not a religious thread.

I think it would be interesting to compare seismic activity on the ring of fire over the last.....30ish years.
I dont remember ever in my short life so much activity in this area.

Damn... I haven't see the west coast of North America with that many earthquakes in awhile..

Either it's doing good, releasing tension from the big one or all hell is going to break loose soon!

With all the big quakes on both the north and south end of the Cascadia in the last 20 weeks......I do not know how it could not put enough pressure to cause a catastrophic explosion sooner or later on the sleeping giant(Cascadia)..........

I hope I am very wrong!!

I am reluctant to say anything about our west coast shakers. After Sandy and all the other recent destruction, its a little embarrassing...

Oooh, another non-event.

Wake me when there is some actual damage, like a crack in the sidewalk or a broken jar of pickles.

To those of us who live here, it is of some concern, and certainly nothing to
at. If the big one hits, it will be utterly devastating and thousands of lives would be lost. A magnitude 9.0 or greater is long overdue, a quake of that magnitude would cause massive tsunami's and widespread destruction throughout the area. I just hope these recent quakes are just pressure relief and not precursors to a larger event. There is reason to keep an eye on things over here.

Oh for sure. It's going to be a nightmare. I'm in Van and my parents are the north tip of Vancouver Island (just visited them this weekend). Kind of an eerie feeling knowing that when the Big One comes, I know my parents will have felt it too.

Thought you were being sarcastic in your previous post, my apologies. I made an ASSumption that you were an east coaster poking fun at those of us near the Cascadia Subduction Zone. Good day to you sir.

Alright my ATSers calm down a litte here. Here in Alaska we routinely get these shakers.. This is nothing new unfortunately.. If you look up the past even five years, Mt. Cleveland has erupted serval times, and most with ash plumes, some even higher than 30,000ft. check out the Alaska Volcano Observatory. You will see this is nothing new.

Trust me if it DOES get bad you will most definatley here about it.. that is unless of course it's the 9+ that happens then all the infrastructure will be gone and we won't be able to send out anything..lol However on the bright side if it does, you guys will STILL know about and may even feel it as in the 1964 earthquake...
