If true, does anyone know what Patraeus might be trying to say? Eisenhower at least gave a good bye speech about the MIC.

i'll add further to this and say that Patraeus is about as close to an Eisenhower as we've had since.
what was it he 'warned' us about back in the day. :shk:

Why are people surprised cabinet level positions will change in Obama's second term?
They always do.

The house cleaning and exodus begins. The fallout of Benghazi I would think.
Next will likely be Hillary IMO.

The military has rules and doctrines governing extramarital affairs and consequences. I wouldn't see why the Director of the CIA should be exempt to similar rules.
HEADQUARTERS
Central Intelligence Agency
9 November 2012
Yesterday afternoon, I went to the White House and asked the President to be allowed, for personal reasons, to resign from my position as D/CIA. After being married for over 37 years, I showed extremely poor judgment by engaging in an extramarital affair. Such behavior is unacceptable, both as a husband and as the leader of an organization such as ours. This afternoon, the President graciously accepted my resignation.
As I depart Langley, I want you to know that it has been the greatest of privileges to have served with you, the officers of our Nation’s Silent Service, a work force that is truly exceptional in every regard. Indeed, you did extraordinary work on a host of critical missions during my time as director, and I am deeply grateful to you for that.
Teddy Roosevelt once observed that life’s greatest gift is the opportunity to work hard at work worth doing. I will always treasure my opportunity to have done that with you and I will always regret the circumstances that brought that work with you to an end.
Thank you for your extraordinary service to our country, and best wishes for continued success in the important endeavors that lie ahead for our country and our Agency.
With admiration and appreciation,
David H. Petraeus

His reason for leaving at this point in time are what makes one wonder.

No, I agree with this others. This stinks of a cover story.
And by stating that it was because an affair, the POTUS couldn't try and talk him into staying. Why else would a High Ranking guy like this publically release an e-mail that talks about an affair.

The CIA is not the military. They don't play by those rules. If the Head of the CIA can't keep at least one mistress quiet then I seriously doubt his qualifications.

So he's leaving the CIA because having an affair is unacceptable.

What is it that you think resigning will protect him from?
